I think if the orca had 1 strip mining turret it would be used in null-sec much more often. As-is, with techII mining drones it hauls ~as much as a proc with one strip miner fitted.
Make us boosters feel like we're not stepping back just because we don't have multiple alts to boost for the yield loss of a turret. its a 1billion isk ship.. risk and rewards, right?

If you're only getting one half of a Procurer's worth of ore then you're not fitting it right. The Orca mines more than a Procurer. Fit drone mining rigs if you want more yield.
Also, the Orca is a boosting ship first and a mining ship second. It's not meant to mine more than an Exhumer. |

I'd rather have mining sentries than anything else right now. I hate having to face hump asteroids.
But they've already made some major changes, so I'll be content with what I have. |

Ask to get paid for your boost since you are putting the 1 billion ship in space at risk. If they don't pay, turn off the boosts. |

The orca is already overpowered to the point that its invulnerability is driving its price down as the market saturates.
There is no solution that does not involve beating it mercilessly with a nerf bat. We've been fighting back and forth here and elsewhwere about risk/reward, vulnerability of isk and material faucets, profitability and competitiveness of new player activities that encouraged continued play, and what factors contribute to the overall health of the game.
CCP has decided that AFK/bot mining is a valid playstyle and that it needed to be buffed. So CCP gave them the ship. It's over; they won. |

Orcas aren't saturating the market. If you want to make an argument then please do, but don't inject ridiculous non-facts to support your claim. |

...Uhh...
Why would you want to use an orca with one strip miner in nullsec? I am seriously struggling to think of anything that even resembles a reason to even have one in null, let alone use it to mine no more than a frigate. |

Orcas aren't meant to replace barges. They are a support vessel.
And when i look around i see quite a lot of orcas in space and underpriced on the market. Saturated doesn't seem so far fetched to me.

There's a reason industrials don't get more than one turret hardpoint: mass AFK-mining. If Orcas could fit a strip miner, there would undoubtedly be large groups of AFK Orca-miners in highsec crashing ore prices.
Now if Orcas were instead able to use 1-2 of those special mining drones the Rorqual gets, but only able to launch them outside of empire space, I could support. I don't think Orcas need more yield but I'm not opposed to giving them some. I certainly don't think it'll hurt the nullsec meta.

Nope, the Orca has no need of mining equipment other than drones.
In highsec this would be disastrous and plenty difficult to counter without a Burn Jita level event for every system a mining fleet exsists.
But sure, if you really want this to happen........do it, and I will get my brother, and 2 of our friends back into game, between us I think we could muster nearly 50 Orca pilots after plexing them all back up, good luck ganking such a fleet let alone competing after accounting for the boosts and drones and stuff.
On second, maybe 3rd thought.............

What the orca actually needs is a bit more fitting to be able to fit appropriate sized prop mods, active tank & cap boosters. Right now it's a joke for it's fittings.
What it does not need is more mining capacity. |

Ships have roles:
Procurer: Mining Ship Orca: Mining support ship
See the difference? If an Orca can mine as much as a Procurer, what's the point of having the procurer?

no you're missing the point. eve is meant to be a group-play game. I get it. but smaller alliances or dudes in weird time-zones don't get to be in the 50-roraqual goons fleet clearing the colossal belt every hour on the hour. We know that's just one dude with his alts.. but I digress.
Group play doesn't mean "I need 5 alts to play as well as everyone else" .. it means " I need 5 buddies each with one account to play as well..." see the difference? If I fly a proc .. I get a proc's worth of ore. But after skilling up I should be able to put my toon into an orca, and eventually the rorqual, and NOT be penalized along the way for making the jump. right now I see no reaon to fly anything other than a proc, skiff or rorqual. Hulk only if a rorqual is on-grid and you can't fly it. that's why "the orca is a usless ship in low-sec"... either someone is wasting a toon boosting because his "5 buddies" are on grid, or he's content to AFK with mining drones out for twice as long .. or he can leave the expensive ship floating there all afternoon while doing something else.
Adding or buffing the ship to the point that the drones it can fly do as-well as a proc is not too much to ask. I'm not saying it needs to be exhumerish, but certainly needs to be as good as a procurer.
I mean think of it this way: In real-life if there were such a ship designed, would it have mining turrets on it? you bet your behind it would. how many would it have? it would have ten, twenty, fifty.. so many that you wouldn't be able to see the ship underneath it.
the fact that strip miners only fit to barges is nuts to begin with.
I also think that faction / superduper strip miners should also be a thing. Ganking procs is fun work as is, but the ships are so cheap to replace that no one really cares. Put a 750million strip miner doing as much as an excavator drone on there.... (yeah, make it short range, like 2500m... give it some other penalties.. like ship max vel or align time penalty.. but give us such a module!)

Going from a Proc to an Orca is not meant to be an upgrade but a lane swap. It's like going from a Caracal to an Osprey. You are no longer there for the same role. You are not meant to be a miner with links but a link ship with some leftover mining capabilities. |

Yeah I'd nerf them.
I did not expect them to get a huge mining buff.
Edit- You know whats really annoying? Belt rats don't engage mining drones, like ever. So the orca can put a different drone on each rock and go afk for a long time. Even if bumped, it still mines, albeit slower.

Holy crap...you aren't kidding! I just tossed an Orca in PyFa to compare it to a 3 MLU Skiff with both Strips and Crystals at T2...all the Orca needs is a couple T2 rigs to get Mining Drone II's to match the yield. The Orca's basically now an Exhumer with a **** load of cargo space and way bigger tank.

They really dont. Been mining in an orca for weeks. I don't even bother killing the belt rats. They dont shoot mining drones.

True, but if I want to mess with a miner, it's not the drones I'd be shooting at. I'm just surprised they really haven't jumped in price considering. I would be even more so if CCP doesn't eventually come around to nerf their drone yield rate.
