Give players the ability to launch and anchor decoys!
* Decoys are drones that use specialized broadcasting equipment that make them appear to be battleships or other vessels to all scanners (including probes). When close visual inspection is made you can tell whether its just a decoy or the real thing.
This could be used for military tactics (bluffing) by disguising your cloaked force as something or somewhere its not. Miners could deter piracy by launching combat vessel decoys while cloaking to hide their indy ships. A decoy could be anchored to throw off griefers probing out ships giving precious seconds to the victim attempting an escape. Likewise it could be used to set traps. Cloak and don't let the wannabe attacker know you've got a T2 fitted commandship cloaked 5k away from your anchored Badger II decoy.
Allow the owner to use a remote camera to view the decoy so while he's hiding or running from the enemy he can see whether his decoy has been discovered and engaged.
Allow decoys to remain active for a period of time after the owner has been destroyed. IE: launch a POD decoy right before your ship is destroyed to hopefully screw up the locking efforts of the group trying to give you a free trip to your next clone.
Limit 1 active decoy per vessel.

hehe, that would actually a quite funny feature. Ofcourse, there should be anti-decoy weapons, and the idea needs some tweaking, but I really think this feature could be a real nice addition to EVE. Decoys were a handy weapon in RL warfare so far aswell, so why not EVE?
As an anti-decoy weapon, something like an assaultfrigate, or interdictor, or whatever T2, could have the ability to indentify decoys as decoys, effectively acting as an antidecoy-weapon

Edited by: Liquidswar on 03/05/2007 03:39:57 I don't think there should be an anti-decoy weapon. Decoys are not actually weapons. They don't fire on or really protect ships. They simply create a mirage that forces players to think carefully about their next move.
At best you should be able to tell the difference between a decoy and the real thing as soon as you are in camera range. (Or perhaps when deployed they should appear like a ship decloaking and sitting there while the battle continues meaning no way to tell without anti-ECM mods) If you're looking for a way to defeat the decoys effects perhaps they should broadcast at a certain sensor strength and if a ship with scan/sensor bonuses defeats the sensor strength of the decoy it immediately sees through the disguise. Another limitation is they occupy space in a drone bay reducing DPS or mining prowess of the owner's ship.
A pilot should also be able to target and kill decoys or scoop them into cargo bays if they are not anchored or active. I'm not sure if decoys should be reusable or disposable. There could be variations where some have limited shelf lives like 3 activations up to tech II with unlimited deployments adding expense and a need for additional skills to use the best items available.

This is actually a really good idea.
Add in a 'drone decoy' (Imagine a drone, weaponless, that either projects an image of a decoy ship/unfolds panels to look like the decoy ship), so that the decoy moves around to complete the illusion and it'd be perfect.
