Which kinda makes no sense. Sure, they are making a money sink that way, but I think they could do that easier than by loosing a noticeable part of their income.

I certainly hope that's what he's saying, the other interpretation would mean CCP losing a lot of potential income.
I believe that is what K is saying. Like I said, either I can't read or I am dumb. Likewise for the community. Maybe less griefing and more reading classes. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

I am having serious trouble understanding this decision, providing GTC for ISK without a middleman doesn't make any money. Currently every GTC bought with ISK was purchased by someone with real money and the profit goes to CCP. The system proposed here CCP is not going to get paid in anything but ISK, which is completely worthless.
I don't know how many accounts are paid for with GTC, but I expect CCP will lose 20-30% of their revenue stream (not users)simply because they will not be getting paid for the ISK-GTC transactions any more.
How is the company going to cope with the reduced income... are we going to see less new content, less bugs fixed, or fewer GMs answering petions in the future?

Let me see if I've got this right: Pay subs for a couple of months until you get a character to self-sufficiency. Farm ISK. Buy timecard direct from CCP with said ISK. Repeat. Never have to pay a subscription fee again.

I think it's great that ISK to game time is continuing. I worry about the effect that will have on CCP however. You guys know what you're doing I hope.
From this perspective though, it looks awesome.

They can act as a broker. Buy isk for gametime, sell isk for cash. ( *edit* Which would do the same thing like now, except that there are no resellers and that they can make profit with it depending on their exchange rates. ) ___________ Muuuhhh !!! |

If I cannot spend $15 every couple of months to replace my HAC or battleship I will quit this game and resign my three accounts. I don't see how bleeding a game of experienced players who would rather not rat/mine is "good for the community" in any sense. The main draw of this game is that people can play is as casually or as 'intimately' as they want, and if you remove the only option for a casual player to buy his battleships, HACs or other ships then you cut them entirely out of the game and force them to move on.
This change helps nobody except the established players with billions of ISK.

Exactly why this should be stopped, its an unfair advantage in the game, if you cant play the game its intended and buy what you like with the tools you have its either the wrong game for you, or your not playing the game " correctly " Relying on your RL cash funding your character for pvp etc is unfair to those who cannot afford or will not stoop to that level. fix it dont nerf it. |

Taking this action WITHOUT removing T2 BPO's as well would be pretty bloody stupid.
Level the playing field CCP, but do it properly.

Rule 1 of EVE: Don't fly what you can't afford to lose. If you cannot afford to replace HACs and Battleships, maybe you should be flying Cruisers and Battlecruisers.

Yes, forcing a large, huge percentage of the player base out of the game is clearly the best course of action for a game with such a low (in comparison to WoW) subscriber rate. Lets force out all of the weekend warriors, because clearly if you don't spending five hours a day ratting/mining you don't deserve to play EVE!

Is there any chance we could get clarification from someone who has better communication skills than Kieron? Instead of having a dozen follow-up posts starting with "I believe Kieron's saying that..." we'd all be in the know and that would be a hell of a lot better than farting around trying to decipher what he's talking about. |

I concur, Kieron wasn't clear at all and this is an issue that really needs to be made very very clear.
Isk for GTC's no is longer allowed! But it is allowed! is not clear :p

Yes please. I wonder whats gonna happen. Because if CCP sell GTC for isk, then they will control the price - NOT the users! 90 days for 600mill? I wouldnt be suprised.. Please dont do this CCP

Originally by: CCP kieron That is unavoidable, but the change being worked on is for the greater good of the community.
would you mind explaining why, exactly, elimination of the "middleman" (and further complication of the already byzantine and horribly slow account management page) is "for the good of the community?"
loaded question but I still get my point across, i still have not seen any concise logic as to why this is for the "good of the community," especially seeing as the last change to gtc mechanics caused only inconvenience. -----

This is my take on it (but i'm as confused as everyone else at the moment!)....
Player A buys GTC from CCP.
Player A is given 2 options upon purchasing the GTC... 1. either use the GTC himself or 2. through account management he can sell it to Player B for ISK.
Once player B buys a GTC from player A the GTC is automatically added to his subscription time. This prevents player B from reselling the GTC for RL cash out of game.
Whichever way it works you can gurantee CCP gets the RL cash one way or the other!

Somewhere, the Overlord of Macrominers is rubbing his hands together with glee. CCP charges $15 or (random made-up figure) 250mil ISK for a timecard? Fine. The ISK-farmers will charge $15 for 275mil isk. Players buy from them and then use the isk for buying a timecard as it is (effectively) cheaper than buying direct from CCP as they're paying the same amount of RL cash but get some extra isk on top.
Everybody wins...except CCP and non-macrominers. |

Heh. First of Kieron's posts got me confused.
Second post basically means that you now officially condone rich people buying their dreads, hacs, 40m SP characters and t2 BPOs with real cash, as long as you get a bigger cut, eliminating the possibility of selling ISK for $ with your consent through a loophole. Everything else would have been suicide anyway.
Drugs are bad, unless you buy your drugs from the government ...
