Very bad form. the npc's popping him is questionable. I would have returned it but many wouldn't so no judgement from me on that but podding him and still not returning the ransom is pretty low. not impressive

Yeah, would most likely have returned the isk.
Depends on how long he stayed in the belt afterwards, if he tried to warp out within 10 sec and the rats popped him before that, then yeah i would have returned the isk.
Altho if he stayed for some time in the belt its his own fault.
But i would NEVER have popped his pod. If he payed up, he did, its because of guys like you ppl stop paying ransoms.

Funny story, but also disappointing. People used to pay ransoms. Partly because A)Folks honored them. B)They werent insanely priced. Im not saying yours was insanely priced by the way. But yeh, its when folks like you do what you do that make it harder for the rest of us to get ransom. I always prefer to ransom, but it gets annoying when i keep getting "F*** YOU!" responses. I caught a guy the other day in a fully T2 fitted Rupture (Not..sure..why?). I was in a ferox just looking to loose the ship for the insurance, so it was very cheaply fitted. had him locked down and sitting at 50% structure with nos's on him. I then had a friend come in (who was waiting nearby) and scan him...ship and cargo. He had 1400mm Arty II's in his cargo (Guess he got in on a ship kill prior?). I asked him to pay 25M (I was in a nice mood for once). His response "F*** YOU!" So i poped the ship and then took what little loot remained (Only 1 of the arties survived).
Anyways point being... They pay you? They just bought a get out of jail free, do not get reamed, card. So...leave em be. And as for the whole rat situation. I would have flat out told him that if he had been quicker to agree to your price that wouldnt have occured (Future lesson). But yeh..going back for his pod, bad form.
Delivering the kick to the jaw of society to stop it from drooling on itself like the ignorant slop it is since 1984.

You should have returned half the money so that he could buy an intellignce implant, which may then stop him going 1v1 with a curse in the future...

Gratz Yonneh, Well done ;) More ppl should ransom the ships and not only the pod (some pirates are silly enough to think everyone goes down to lowsec with 1 billion implants in their head). Shouldn't have podded him tho. Leaving yourself and leaving him rambling like an idiot in local would have shown you were the master |

i too would have given the isk back...since as others have said it was your actions, or mine in that situation that led to his getting popped.

well for me it's pretty clear tbh. He prolonged the payment. He was let go once he had payed. He made the concius desicion to wait until he was almost dead to pay. I wouldnt pay him the isk since you keept up your side of the bargain. You didnt destroy his ship, if after you left npc or hell even a player then pops it not your problem.
However the pod should be included in the price if you ask me. Even if he was trash talking you in local.

I don't get why he'd be angry. He came LOOKING for you. He lost. I'm not much into PvP in Eve because it's lamely deterministic, but when I do something stupid like that, I don't whine. Phoenix Logistics Industries |

i don't blame u for being annoyed at someone trash talking you but u accepting payment for letting him go and then afterwards podded him without returning the ransom, therefore u dishonoured a ransom. now if this is ur chosen play style then by all means continue and do what gives u the most fun out of eve but don't try to sugar coat it. basically u do not honor ur ransoms and lets leave it at that.

u got his pod mail. i'll say again that the rats killing ships thing and not returning that ransom is questionable. whether u return it or not is your call and i wouldn't say it's bad either way.
But, you accepted money to give him his safety, podded him and didn't return the isk. and that is not honoring a ransom i'm afraid.

I never pay ransoms. Mainly because there is no honor or binding contract that will prevent someone from podding/destroying your ship AFTER you pay the ransom.
That money would be better spent on re-fitting a new ship.

i would have gave the isk back....but then again i would have poped the npc's before they poped him....when taking a ransom your supposed to be honor bound too see that nothing eles happens to the victim in front of ya,if this means tackling npc's or other players so be it my be a pirate but that doesnt mean im with out a moral compass.also since he was fairly new 5 mill would have did just fine...when you cross over these lines you descent in to the class of greif players, were all here to play, and that doesnt mean ruining ppl's fun with eve...for if they all leave you'll be playing with yaself.

Had this happen once. Warped in, scrammed Moa. Tried ransoming when I got him into armor. He stalled all the way down to 33% structure. He pays up, (4 mil) I let him go and warp out. The npc's pop him. After some debate, I finally gave him back 2 mil, which he promptly put on my head for bounty. I laughed. I wouldn't have podded the poor guy, even with the smack. He payed up.

In my experience if you plan on ransoming someone you need to take steps to ensure that any rats don't pop him. Either leave them with enough shield/armor/structure to continue taking a bit of rat damage (until one or both of you are gone) or kill the rats once the opponent has been disabled. You essentially need to "protect" your victim once you have defeated him.
-If you warp out after getting the ransom and THEN he gets popped it's on him. -If he pays and then pops like 5 seconds later cause of the rats and you're both just sitting there then imo the ransom should be returned.
In any case, podding him for demanding his ransom back is unbelievably lame. If you haven't already, you should give his ransom back.
I would have returned this guy's ransom isk without a second thought. --------------------------------- ♫♪♪♫♪♫♫♪♫♪
