And what the hell is it with fanboys that back up CCP with comments like two above?
Its easy - its a goddamn production application that people are paying money for.
That is, you *don't* frig with things in between downtime that'd cause issues, you *don't* experiment with crap. If I'm paying money for a service, I expect the service.
Its nothing to do with 'CCP are only human' etc etc... its about providing a professional service, and for the money being generated, it *is* possible to provide a continuous service. Nothing else counts, there is no argument against that. Gods sake.

It seems any one not flaming about CCP on here is a WOW fanboy.
For you infromation , i hae tried WOW for a day, it sucks.
i understand ppl getting pessed off with it, but maybe, just maybe, you will realise it just a game, payed for, true , but nothin that will break the bank.

Ah lol at Janu's post - I thought I'd seen the worst of the idiot fanboys until that one. What exactly are you doing on the forums then? I think you're probably not intelligent enough to understand my post - its a production app. Full stop. One that doesn't bear messing with when people are paying for the service. If CCP can't maintain it in a timely fashion, well, then they can't provide the service. Or were you just trying to sound like a pompous idiot?

Yes, having two stratum 2 timeservers on the local network and adding `sudo ntpdate -u time.local.lan' to server startup (if whatever OS you use doesn't have a rc script for that) is always a good idea in a synchronized cluster environment.
Then again, might be hard to maintain that 2.5minutes delta to UTC that way (hint: use DT to slowly remove it, there aren't any transaction logs that can be b0rked in that timeframe).

Don't blame CCP. Blame Microsoft. 100 ISK says this was caused by the last round of patches. Or a flaky NIC. Or the Devs were into the tequila.

We have had lots of problems with MS's ntp handling getting out of sync and not coming back. We replaced it with a 3rd-party app that works far better.

I've seen you pathetic cretins in every MMO I've ever played, trumping the "we pay for this" line whenever the server so much as twitches. Check the EULA, chump, there are no guarantees about server performance. There never are. There never have been. Games grow, the software changes, and sometimes, the server just decides it wants to throw a tantrum. The sad part is, as many veteran MMO players as their are around here, some of them still manage to sound like you.
I'd tell you to get over it, but attitudes like yours are so endemic to this industry, its not worth wasting keystrokes. Live systems of this level of complexity suffer downtimes. Its a part of life, like your first car accident, and the first girl that laughs at your pathetic peen.

Server uptime is not a definate as someone else has said.
