Star up has been crap the last few weeks. Sure server starts - but it takes 10 - 15 min for all the systems in my region to become active afterwards.

I'm curious to find out what the statistics are, when I loaded a C64 game the tapeplayer worked say 40% of the time without tweaking, what percentage does Tranquility have to date?

Everytime this happens AU players wear the brunt of it - In my opinion they should get cheaper subscriptions to make up for the constant DT loss in prime time.....go on flame away all those who dont have to put up with it

We have a breaktrough!
They made a new piece of code called "heat" and thought hey why not use it to overclock the servers.
Unfortunately lag kicked in and "heat" couldn't be disabled in time so the servers now need alot of cooldown time (5 second checks to see if the servers are cold enough).

The only reason im not going mad and angry, is that i know for certain, if CCP had like a month off and employ us lot to cover, You can garauntee EVE would die within minutes.
Its bad were guna lose skill training time, but remember, if it wasnt for them, we would even have eve...

Again this goes ack ot my work. something will go wrong with the network (say a car crashes into a mast and pulls it down)
We then get everyone in that area calling teling us to fix it they pay a service eTCETC.. sometime its out of our hands.
im sure if we keep complaining they could up the subscription and buy new equipment...

CCP - Constantly Crashing Poftware :)
I only hope they get it fixed before my skill training ends, in 9 hours. Oh, well, shouldn't complain, it's the first problem in a couple ... weeks. Or so.
But it would have been nice if you'd have kept us up to date, for example why there were several more restarts after "problem already found". Proactive communication, guys, proactive communication! Not one post every other day, but one every 15 mins.

Its easy - its a goddamn production application that people are paying money for.
That is, you *don't* frig with things in between downtime that'd cause issues, you *don't* experiment with crap. If I'm paying money for a service, I expect the service.
Its nothing to do with 'CCP are only human' etc etc... its about providing a professional service, and for the money being generated, it *is* possible to provide a continuous service. Nothing else counts, there is no argument against that. Gods sake.

It seems any one not flaming about CCP on here is a WOW fanboy.
For you infromation , i hae tried WOW for a day, it sucks.
i understand ppl getting pessed off with it, but maybe, just maybe, you will realise it just a game, payed for, true , but nothin that will break the bank.

Ah lol at Janu's post - I thought I'd seen the worst of the idiot fanboys until that one. What exactly are you doing on the forums then? I think you're probably not intelligent enough to understand my post - its a production app. Full stop. One that doesn't bear messing with when people are paying for the service. If CCP can't maintain it in a timely fashion, well, then they can't provide the service. Or were you just trying to sound like a pompous idiot?

Yes, having two stratum 2 timeservers on the local network and adding `sudo ntpdate -u time.local.lan' to server startup (if whatever OS you use doesn't have a rc script for that) is always a good idea in a synchronized cluster environment.
Then again, might be hard to maintain that 2.5minutes delta to UTC that way (hint: use DT to slowly remove it, there aren't any transaction logs that can be b0rked in that timeframe).

Don't blame CCP. Blame Microsoft. 100 ISK says this was caused by the last round of patches. Or a flaky NIC. Or the Devs were into the tequila.

Yes, not syncing servers to an ntp service is definately a MS screw up.

We have had lots of problems with MS's ntp handling getting out of sync and not coming back. We replaced it with a 3rd-party app that works far better.

I've seen you pathetic cretins in every MMO I've ever played, trumping the "we pay for this" line whenever the server so much as twitches. Check the EULA, chump, there are no guarantees about server performance. There never are. There never have been. Games grow, the software changes, and sometimes, the server just decides it wants to throw a tantrum. The sad part is, as many veteran MMO players as their are around here, some of them still manage to sound like you.
I'd tell you to get over it, but attitudes like yours are so endemic to this industry, its not worth wasting keystrokes. Live systems of this level of complexity suffer downtimes. Its a part of life, like your first car accident, and the first girl that laughs at your pathetic peen.
