Wrong on SO many levels...
Bastards deserve the prison time they got, if not more.
People should NOT force their life style on ANYONE, no matter the relationship or age, they should do the best they can for them, until they can start making that decision themselves, for themselves.
Now, everybody start hugging each other, and be nice, cause I frikken said so!

I could just as easily quote the amount of fat, lazy, meat eaters who die each day. I mean really. This an isolated case ffs, and really not worth the post. if anyone is pushing an agenda its you.
While I am a meat eater, I only eat organic everything. The proponents of a vegan/vego lifestyle have brought a lot of important information to light regarding animal cruelty, diet, the ridiculous amounts of additives and hormones that riddle foods these days. Have you seen how long it takes our bodies to rot due to all these additives? Think of what its doing to us while we are alive.

Is it really against vegan tenants to breast-feed? I mean, it's a conscious choice. I really don't see how this could be an issue. If you want to do it, where's the problem? That could have prevented this whole problem.

Vegetarians i can stand, as long as they keep it to themselves, but "holier than thou" vegans forcing their unhealthy lifestyle on others disgusts me to the core.
Vegans do not live longer than people eating healthy balanced meals. Vegan meals cannot be balanced, as they do not get calcium (no milk products) or iron (fish, red meat, and eggs).
Veganism is absurd and wrong. People who do it are uneducated hippies who think all they do is good for the planet and the world, and they believe it makes them better than others. ~~~~~~ *mods, if you think i'm ugly please say "eeek!"* ~~~~~~

It truely amazes me how ignorant some of you can be. It's about time you did some reading, instead of making ridiculous off the cuff statements that are completely incorrect. You ever heard of India? of Buddhism? In case you didn't realise it over 1/5 of the worlds population is covered just there as vegetarians, and have been so for a few thousand years. And whether a diet is vego or vegan it is beyond simple to make it balanced

There's two sides to every coin. To imply all vegans are healthier than all meat eaters is as narrow minded as you claim everyone else to be. That's an enormous brush you are taring everyone with.
If you took a person and fed them a vegan diet and then a balenced diet, you'd find they we're fitter with the later diet. Red meat contains proteins we use for muscle growth that we don't produce enough of ourselves. Fish produces oil's that work wonders for the brain. It's the same principle with animals eating eating certain plants/elements because of their content. It doesn't mean to say your 300lb guy who eats red meat all day is healthier than the 120lb guy who eats tofu. Generally vegans are more health concious, so that's how it appears.
Im not saying being Vegitarian or Vegan is bad. What i am saying is feeding a baby soya milk and apple sauce and expecting her to be able to survive is a sign of two very stupid people who have blindly followed a dietry lifestyle without knowing the full implications, which ultimatly led to the childs death. Even i know babies need lots of fat and protein when they're very young. Thats what breast milk is essentially. Soya milk doesn't even come close.

Why do you think nature puts ******* on females, are they just ornaments?
Every part of your body has a function, every part is there to serve a biological purpose, from reproduction, to feeding babies, to excreting waste.
Man is an OMNIVORE, we can survive on a diverse array of nutriets, but we do best when we have EVERYTHING available to eat.
By the way soy inhibits production of testosterone, that's why liberals are big fans of veganism, they want all men to be sensitive new age douchbags.

i said the average vegan/vego was probably healthier and lived longer, not all. read more carefully
of course what those parents did was unconscionable, but its hardly representative of vego/vegans. if you read the article you would see as the prosecutor aptly puts it ôThe child died because he was not fed. Period.ö thats the point not whether the parents where vegan.
a balanced diet doesn't require meat ffs. you can get everything you need as a vego/vegan quite easily. in fact you are more likely to get a 'balanced' diet from being vego/vegan given that you eat a greater variety of foods, probably in season, and you are better able to digest them than those diets heavier in meat. just for your own knowledge why don't you take the time to look up vego/vegan diet and see for yourselves as i said before india is predominately vego, and has been so since god knows when. you'd think if it was unhealthy they would know by now

yes you can. more to the point there are numerous vegetables and fruits that contain all the necessary irons, etc that 1 commentator mentioned as reason for meat being required. just look at things like spinach/okra/brocolli, nuts, tofu, cerals, legumes, rice, figs/almonds, to name a few.

It is quite common, and to some point socialy acceptable, to stuff your children with reprocessed meats additives and sugar. Have you never heard of childhood obesity?
Just because these parents were vegan does not mean that all vegans are unhealthy bigots with no concept of how to take care of a child.

Whether you're more healthy on a vegan or 'other' diet is neither here nor there. There are plus' and minus' to both, but that's really not the issue. Both we agree can and are maintained.
I think ultimatly those comments before were directed not at Vegan's per-say, but more at the type of people who follow a fad without knowing exactly what they are doing.
I'd take a stab in the dark and say all those Vegans in India you mention still breast feed their children, and/or eat(feed their children) protein and fat heavy substitutes while doing so. Those idiots going to jail obviously didn't know what they were doing as Vegans and it cost the life of a child.
The problem ultimatly is our decreasing knowledge of what we are eating. Both the idiot who eats at McDonalds everyday and the moron who eats nothing but Soya because Cosmo said some miscilanious movie star does are both as bad as each other.

How do you spell overkill?
First time parents, thought their way of life was good for baby(perhaps the medical business should've FORCED some knowledge about malnutrition too), didn't know better and when they did notice everything wasn't right(not all parents are so anal about their wee ones), it was too late.
Could be more then malnurishment to this also(refer to House episode "Babies and bathwater"(or something along those lines.

It's everyone's responsibility to make sure that anyone dependent on them for food is given a proper, balanced diet. Period. I don't care what anyone's personal habits and agendas are, you've got to make sure babies are looked after right.
As with all things, some people are just stupid. Just as eating meat is completely healthy, right up until you finish your 15th cheese burger of the day, so can vegetarianism be healthy if people aren't ridiculous about it. My dad's vegie, and all it means to him is that he doesn't eat meat and does eat more cheese and eggs and such. And his athleticism puts me to shame --------

Forcing a vegan lifestyle on a baby who doesn't even have a choice is sickening, not to mention stupid.
For heaven's sake, the human digestive system has evolved to digest meat aswell as veg. Having one without the other causes problems, especially in a child who needs protein to grow.

While breast milk is the natural choice for most mothers, there are as you should know those mothers who cannot breastfeed. There are also babies born who are lactose intolerant, for whom soy based formula is a very good alternative (note soy formula does not cause allergies/there are very few if any formulas available that are actually vegan, so this clueless couple were on the wrong track from the start).
This whole issue of 'forcing' a vegan diet on a baby/child that a few of you seem to find criminal, shows you are nigh on as ignorant with regard to vegeo/vegan diets as the couple of this baby. food for thought

Someone that has read ethics could argue that you are being ignorant and that you are risking lifes, maybe not human lifes. Its a fact that we no longer live on the laws of nature - we do no longer need to kill to be feed. We live on the laws of the culture. We can compare r4cism/n4zsim to sp3cism; because some beings have less status in the consious world, do we have the right to industrialize them - just because we can?
Iam never gonna force my views on anyone - its a personal choice(being good or bad). But there is plenty of things from where you can get you omega3, protiens and calcium; without eating meat(or even dairy products).
NB. The baby dieing has nothing to do with being on a vegan diet, it has something to do with the bad parents.

NB. The baby dieing has nothing to do with being on a vegan diet, it has something to do with the bad parents.
dear god, most sense ive read in long time on these forums!

it's all about balance, personally i can't stand veggies most of the time, but meh...
that's your refutation?
actuallyt it sounded a lot more serious than it was... oops
I represent only my own views, they just happen to be the right ones. |

I've been a vegetarian for most of my life and the one thing that p*sses me off is when other vegetarians try to ram their beliefs down other peoples throats. You made a life choice,, good for you. You don't need to preach about it to everyone you meet.

well as you can clearly see, man was designed to consume meat for the protein and other yummy treats contained within, but i dont see how "hippies" like everything natural, but refuse to eat meat? food chain anyone? hippocrisy or..?

Clearly these people did not know what a baby needs to eat, this could be the result of a couple of things:
1: They simply did not know 2: They did know but they were just stubborn
Either way is dumb just a show a ignorance, and this child had to pay for it.
We live in a great world, yay for eve -----
