Just trained lvl 5 connections (finally), and then did a mission or two, then I refused a mission, and I now have to do another 12 hours of training to get back to connections lvl 5. is this right?

Agent missions have absolutely no effect on your skills. You can complete, refuse or fail missions all you like, and your skills won't be touched. What happened to you sounds like one of two bugs:
- Connections isn't working, so you're not seeing the standing boost. See the first message in this thread, written by some underappreciated genius, for an explanation.
- Your skill training got bugged. See the article "Skill training failed" for more details. It you spent a considerable amount of time on retraining it to level 5, send in either an 'other' petition or an 'ask a question' help request and we'll check it out for you.

Are the skills; Trade, Bartering, Black Market Trading and Broker Relations, available yet, and if so will they be associated with agents or with market only. Im maxing out on all the social skills and want something new to train to help me with my agents. Looking forward to lvl4 agents

Originally by: GM Abraxas You also have to have a certain minimum standing with his corporation. That minimum is [(agent level-2)*2.0] + [(agent quality*5.0)/100.0]
Is that correct? You're saying you need [(3-2)*2] + [(0*5)/100] = 2.0 to use a level 3, 0 quality agent, last I checked you needed 4.0.
Likewise [(2-2)*2] + [(0*5)/100] = 0.0 to use a level 2, 0 quality agent, again I thought this was 2.0.
I needed 4.95 to use my current level 3, 19 quality agent, by that forumla I'd have needed 2.95.
Long and short, I think you mean:
[(agent level-1)*2.0] + [(agent quality*5.0)/100.0]

Nope, I don't. It's [(agent level-2)*2.0] + [(agent quality*5.0)/100.0]
Keep in mind that in the part you're quoting, I'm only talking about R&D agents. The standing requirement I mentioned is in addition to the usual "-1" part and has to be fulfilled by your standings with his corporation - not by your faction standings.
Normal agents, on the other hand, just have the "-1" requirement.

Connections? Yeah, it's fixed. I'd just forgotten to edit out the "got broken" line.

Edited by: Core Bash on 15/11/2004 06:05:54 Can someone please verify what the Effective Quality of an agent actually is? I'm not sure if it means you get better missions (ie: less jumps, bigger combat spawns, etc), does it mean you get better rewards/bonuses, or does it mean your standing with the corporation goes up faster when doing missions for an agent with a high Effective Quality. á

I know this is a little off topic... but is this the same Abraxas as Americas Army?

I've only just restarted playing Eve after 12mths absence. Finally a use for my character with a basic (Pre Skill, implants etc) Charisma of 14. Man i wish i'd found this post earlier. Don't want to waste anyone's time here but can anyone advise which order to train the skills discussed above. To get the maximum benefit of this character i'v been agenting with for so long. I only have trade at 1 atm. However from when character was previously active have 3 or 4 Lvl 3 agent's with high quality that i can't use.
Cheers

I really need to give the original post an overhaul, but that'll have to wait.
Quote: Can someone please verify what the Effective Quality of an agent actually is?
It's your first guess: Better missions, with fewer jumps and better rewards. I can't say whether it increases the standing boosts you get for the missions, though; I'm pretty sure Social alone is supposed to do that (Can't get to EVE right now to check it out ...).
Quote: is this the same Abraxas as Americas Army?
Nope. When I first got asked this I didn't even know of the game, so my response to the question "Are you in America's Army?" was basically "... are you kidding? I live in Iceland, you know."
Quote: can anyone advise which order to train the skills discussed above
Train Connections first, level 4 at least, 5 for preference. That'll net you access to better agents right away. Once you've gotten settled in with an agent you like, train Negotiations to improve their quality (and hence the quality of the missions they'll be giving you), then Social to improve your standing increases.

Heh then why did u put in your player manual exactly the opposite?
It said quality only affected standing rewards not isk or missions. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

Just out of curiosity, where does Criminal Connections fit into all this?
Will training Criminal Connections affect relationships with non-criminal corps/factions? Working for pirate factions, what happens to your sec status? Your relationship with non-pirate corps? Do the other skills help?

Connections has an effect on your agent's Effective Quality, but not nearly as much as Negotiations does. Train the latter if you want to improve the agents you currently have. (Edit) The formula is like this: Effective Quality = Base Quality + (5*Level of Negotiation) + Effective Standing. The effects of Connections on your Effective Standing is noted above.
[/list]
Please explain why the description of negotiation mentions nothing of this. " Skill at agent negotiation. 5% additional pay for agent missions. "
Says nothing of effecting the effective quality. -Nirat

Social affects the standing reward you are given for each mission (as a percentage. So if you have this to level 3 and the standing gain for a mission is 2.0% then you would receive 2.0 + 15% = 2.3
Connections modifies your effective standing to an agent. So if you have a standing of 2.0 and Connections to level 3 (12%) you would effectively have a standing (2.0 + (8-12%)) = 2.96
10 being the maximum standing - 2.0 being your standing = 8 (which is what the 12% is applied to). I think that's correct anyway.
