Just Say No To Shards - any kind - ever.
Having just one universe is one of the best points of Eve.
The reset idea comes from people whining about how newbies can't catch up - which is based on a misunderstanding how this well designed skill system works. There are no simple "levels" in eve - new players can get competitive in particular ships within a few weeks or months. Thanks to the large number of skills and diminishing returns, the gazilion SP the few 4 year old players have is of no use is most situations and just gives more diversity in options.
All the other ideas for sharding are again based on faulty assumptions - like this will cure lag (it won't - Eve is already "sharded" in that the systems are distributed over many servers - and the new shard would not get the same number of machines to begin with), or that new shards will bring new opportunities (that will either be very short term - and then what? - or can also be done on Tranquility).
Many players like Eve exactly because there are no shards (ignoring the chinese server - special circumstances - and they are mostly exclusive to each other - so there is only one per market).

well considering how bad ccp has managed to screw up TQ, and I have almost no faith in their ability to fix it (even though they are trying, and I still hope, otherwise my accounts would be inactive...)
Another server with all 0.0 and no capital ships or poses would be quite excellent, although no char transfers, and maybe 2x training rate... would be pretty fun.

I would like to see a small extension to the forum software:
1. Assemble all sharding threads into 1 thread.
2. Any time somebody posts a message conataining the word "shard" or some similar phrases - auto-add that message to the "No Shard ever thread - but here are all the messages about it" thread.
3. Display a big blinking red message to the writer that explains that there will be no shards and that there is really no point in opening the 123rd thread about it.

p.s. I'm sure we can find a couple more topics that would profit from such a feature ("noobs have no chance" for example)

1) No Char Jumping - any New EVE should be for seperate accounts and characters.
No Portal - No way Tranquillity economy would be affected.
2) To offset the Huge fear current players have of a 2nd-EVE sucking the player base and thus depth out of Tranquillity - something would have to be done like:
a) the Rules in 2nd-EVE were so diff 75% of players would not want to play it or leave Tranquillity except to try.
b) Price diff like Tranquillity $10 per month - 2nd-EVE $15
unless an account maintained in both - then $10 each per month.
c) maybe a conditional pre-order period of 6-9 months,
Only if a 2nd-EVE appeared to have potencial to Add 10-15k
regular subscribers without robbing Tranquillity of more than 5k would it be opened.
