EVE Slang and Acronym Disambiguation
Can you please edit your magnificent post and take into account some eyes simply cannot take the strain of red foreground text against black background?
My humble opinion on the matter is that either white or yellow will do a better job than red, to lessen eye strain while keeping attention focused on the title of the subject.

Another one that comes up fairly regularly for me is "point" referring to setting a scrambler on someone. Warp disruptors (and their counterparts) give one or tow "points" of scrambling.
I'll often read or hear 'Someone get a point on him!" Meaning someone really needs to lock and warp-scramble the ship. --- Wherever you go, there you are.

I'll make this change in the next update. Thanks for pointing it out.

Update 6/27/2007: Added "point/points". Thanks Simon Jax for the suggestion.
Also changed color of headings from red to yellow to improve readability.

I'd quite like to see "necro" included. It's a forum-specific term, but I see it occasionally and I'm not completely sure what it means (at a guess, raising long-dead threads up via a bump?)

A sticky would be nice, but it's bad if the player who maintains the thread stops updating it. Jimer hasn't posted for a little while - he might be away, he might have lost interest or he might have given up hope of this ever getting a sticky. I have no idea, but I think that's why ISD are hesitant to sticky player-maintained threads like this.
Anyway, bump!

Scanalt: an alt who exists solely for the purpose of scanning or scouting potentially hostile system: not somebody's main, often a member of a noobcorp.
Main: the character you play most of the time
Noobcorp/Newbcorp/Newbie Corporation: One of the corporations that players are automatically assigned to when they start the game, such as the State War Academy. This is a type of NPC Corp.
NPC Corp: An NPC-run corporation. Players cannot join NPC corporations, but they can be assigned to them. When they start the game, they are assigned to a newbcorp. If they quit a player corporation, they will be assigned to a randomly-selected NPC corp.

I'm still here. :) I check it every few days or more often. I don't think this forum has a set of stickies, per se. I'll email the mods and ask them to add it to the resource thread, however.

Updated and added some definitions. I left out "scanalt" mostly for room and because it's not a common term, or at least I haven't heard it before.
Thanks BluOrange for your suggestions, I've added several of them. :)

Fair call, I think 'scanalt' might be an Agony-specific piece of jargon. (Then again, I haven't been in another large PVP corp.)
Seeing 'tanking' on the list make me think about the verb 'to break someone's tank' - to deliver more damage than the target will be able to endure. Often expressed in the negative, "I can't break his tank" (he repairs the damage at least as quickly as I damage him).
Edit: While I'm here, I think 'safespot' might be unclear for newbies.
SS: Safespot: A point in space that is not on the same grid as a station, celestial object or beacon. Being at a safespot (rather than a more easily-reached location) affords a degree of protection against hostile ships.

Hate to be a nosy knowitall, but QFT has two meanings; one original (true) and epidemic (false). However, the epidemic version is the one more commonly used, and thus it has replaced the original and is now true. Aaanyhow:
Quite Frankly True: Simply agreeing to the fact that was stated above.
Quoted For Truth: Quoting an idiotic post, or quoting posted facts in order to prevent the original poster from editing out the facts (or lack of facts). Quoting to preserve the truth.
Nowadays though, everyone says QFT in the meaning of Quoted For Truth, although the do in fact mean Quite Frankly True.
Just pointing that out ;)

heya Jimer, nice list. Another acronym you missed is RMR. I don't know exactly what it means, but I see it tied to a lot of ship fitting threads. Was going to ask what it meant in the Ships and Modules forums but I didn't want to add to the clutter in there.

RMR = Red Moon Rising
RMR was an Eve 'expansion' or update. Usually the big updates bring big changes to ships and modules, so people tag their threads with a prefix like [RMR] so that others know whether that thread is still relevant.
Right now we're on Revelations 2, so you'll see [Rev] and [Rev2] tags. RMR is old news, so info in those threads is probably outdated.

Impressive list, as a newb I found it very informative.
Quote: popped Having ones' ship destroyed (does not necessarily imply being podded)- "Those rats popped my phoon! :("
I've mined alot as a new player, and noticed the term 'pop' ('popping', 'popped') is also being used in conjunction with asteroids (roids) and cans. Eg. 'I popped that roid' or 'I'll pop your can, ok?'
Tyvm for the list ;) (yw)

Another one that I have come across is "Farm" or "Farming" ie. "Farming a mission"
Intentionally not completing a mission on time to continue to rack up bounty and loot. Since hearing about this I have done it on one particular mission to enable me to mine for the 2 week time limit of the mission before reporting it to the agent.
This is usually done on level 3 or 4 so the bounty/loot that piles up greatly outweighs the time bonus you lose for waiting until just before the mission expires.

RSD: Remote Sensor Dampener LSE: Large Shield Extender SPR: Shield Power Relay
RSDs because it's another common name for damps, and LSE and SPR because they are so often referred to when telling people how to fit their new Drake to not get it popped.
The use of II after most item names to denote the T2 version of the module, i.e. LSE II, SPR II.
And the ever-popular GTFOOJ (Get the **** Out Of Jita) and RTFPN (Read the ****ing Patch Notes).
And speaking of that evil system. . .
Jita: Eve's main trade hub Jita 4-4, or simply 4-4: Jita IV, Moon 4, Caldari Navy Assembly Plant, the station where most trade in Jita goes on. -------------------------------------------------- ICE Blueprint Sales FIRST!! -Yipsilanti Pfft. Never such a thing as a "last chance". ;) -Rauth |
