Good luck with your project. I only hope we don't get spammed with invasive in-game prompt windows regarding EvETV. They're extremely annoying and probably the single biggest reason I despise your organization.
This isn't about passing on Intel, this is about telling the populace about what has already happened. If a Corp/Alliance doesn't want them to know about a certain battle or something, they simply don't have to invite them, thus there's no risk of Intel being prematurely passed on to the enemy.
For example, CNN doesn't tell the Palestinians that Isreal is about to shoot at some Hamas building. CNN does, however, show the world what has happened after the fact. Sometimes they have live coverage, but, that's usually coverage of events that everyone knows is happening anyways. (My apologies to anyone located in that part of the world. It was purely an example and not intended in any inflamitory way.)

It would actually be kind of interesting to have a non-invincible camera ship. Too bad there's no actual carnage on EVE battlefields (ship pieces flying everywhere, lasers scorching across hulls, &c &c) because that would make for some harrowing footage.
I don't have a problem with a media organization, because biased or not, it's cool to have, but one with the power and blessing of CCP itself certainly wields more power than real life media, and as such really needs to be monitored very closely by all parties.

Good luck with it :)
It's a good plan. Another is to see where there are massive death blobs on the map. Another is keeping an eye on public channels and finding out where "it's going down".
We're still debating to what degree we want to be involved in situations where we're not expressly invited. We don't want to cause any obstruction, any worry, or any ill feeling
This is the funniest thing I've read...after what's been said in the forums, being INVITED LOL sorry the GM do what they want to imbalance this game anyways so why bother saying this dribble!

I know this would completely break the fourth wall and all that, but is there such a thing as an intangible invisible ship?
That way, you can get all the footage you want (slideshows lol) without anyone, on any side, accusing you of bumping dreads or whatever.

Point is that polaris frigs are immune to everything, DD does about 1.5 damage to them, and you cant target them in the first place. So it really doesnt matter if they are set to blue or not as they can film with impunity, ideally while cloaked or similar. (not sure if possible)
I think its a cool idea and look foward to seeing how it evolves. I think the really good footage to get would be small gang battles, or flying along with a small roaming gang. People just need to remember to not call EVE tv reporters primary, as then you have a whole gang going "wtf i cant target xxx" :D

Originally by: Santiago Cortes Having Evetv in anything other than Polaris ships would just invite someone to accidentally target them and then repeatedly accidentally target their pod.
Much as though we all like explosions, it wouldn't make for good footage halfway through a fight and the cameraman suddenly switches to the inside of a station.
So basically the gist is "they'll be there either you want them to or not, and there ain't a g** **mn thing you can do about it"
Two thumbs up... no.. really... ---

from what i remember about spiraljunkie showing up to our outpost deploying party, is that his polaris frig would be killed by several hundred (thousand) doomsdays that would need to be fired within 5 seconds of each other.
the stats on the ship were a couple k of shields with 99% resistancs, and a shield recharge time of 5 seconds.
eat your heart out drake pilots.
also, we invited him to our gang... so if you are comfortable with them being in your gang and seeing your gang chat, they will join your gang (catch gang warps and things like that) if not, they'll have some other way to find out where the action is i'm sure...
tbh, i think it's pretty cool that there will be eve-tv pilots out there. The stuff they've done in the past has impressed me, so i'm looking foreward to seeing how this works out.

Tbh, this would work better if it tied in closely to the game.
The camera ship should not be polaris; as Polaris Vessels are ISD government vehicles, and despite CCP's sponsorship, ingame this new organization should not be associated with any governmental body, Empire or Concord based.
Just to add flavour, the Camera Vessel should be fast and speedy and cloakable, but maybe only half as resilient. This adds realism to any film captured, as the cameraman will be forced to stay out of the line of fire, and stay hidden like any real combat reporter. This will lend a more realistic sense to the video, rather than a kamikaze polaris pilot who dives into a DD to get footage. Not to mention, if the camera guy gets spotted someplace we don't want him to be, shooting him will let him know that he's in dangerous territory.

Perhaps its best that a camara ships were a breed of its own rather then using a Polaris.
To keep the camara ship honest, offer it no cargo space and restrict the hardpoints to non-weapon modules;
Maybe built in ship/cargo scanners that would offer extra intel for accurate reporting?

why dont you want to film smaller corps while doing some empire pirating! its much more exciting to watch a battleship vs battleship while 1 of the battlships is taking the sentries in a .4 system! just a thought! http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0609/CHerry_SIG_jaypeg.jpg

I don't think that's fair IMO. Real life war correspondents often take heavy risks to get the best footage. These guys should too.
Their ships should be paid for in ISK (just like ours are) and they should function under all of the gameplay rules we function under. If someone decides the EveTV guys hanging around are a security risk then pop them. It will force them to build up trust with the alliances.
In the real world most atrocities occur away from the prying eyes of reporters. Eve is as real as it gets so let's not 'godmode' Eve's reporters.
good idea.

ok so, CCP recently made jetcans and wrecks non-colidable. Why can't they just make all Polaris ships non colidable. Wouldn't that solve the issue with bumping, and cov-ops ranges? Just a thought. Or even create a new "news vessel" that is non-colidable.

My concern is not in the tactical dynamic of having extra ships on the field (that may reveal your position and ship composition) but it is more of the political nature.
During the recent tournements a member of the EVE tv staff explained the disqualification of a goonswarm gang with the words 'Apparantly Goonswarm can't count'. Although it was probably not the speaker's intention to assign bias to his words, the viewer is left with a piece of news delivered in a condecending manner.
This game (as you all know) is very political and in war time, each alliance pushes forward thier own propaganda. It is realistic to have an independant news agency covering these events but it is foolish to believe that the few who do cooperate with you won't be lying through thier teeth.
Any 'evetv' vessel that I see in combat would be assumed a hostile target and immeadately engaged. This ship would be free to film us shooting at him from the moment he arrived untill the moment he departed. If it cuases the destruction of my fleet becuase we are so destracted by this indevidual, so be it- I will replace the losses and plan a new enagement which would include a more effective means of evading detection by this entity.
Furthermore, all contact with my alliance would be directed to me and I would either close convo or give details that were the exact opposite of what I had planned.
So my advice (if you guys are serious about this) is...
1: Give evetv the ability to relocate themselves instantly so that they do not have to rely on intel gleaned from players that have an interest in lying to them.
2: Give evetv the ability to cloak with out the possibility of becoming uncloaked so that thier pressence does not cuase a destraction.
If it isn't blue it will be shot and I'm not napped with evetv.
