What are you thinking? It has tons of grid left over, and no ewar. If this was for a torp raven, maybe it would make more sense, but it looks like you didn't even bother fitting this in game or even in quickfit to see what it looks like. Frankly it looks more like a lowskill PvE raven setup.
The ewar is handled by either a Blackbird or a Scorp, sometimes both. We also use another battleship and a commandship (damnation), as well as 2-3 ceptors. Like i said, a small gang.
And yes, you could put torps on it easily if you like to. Its just that we often run into alot of HACs...

Although a cruise plated raven with damps is more useful than that. Without damps and plates, the raven is a bog standard damage dealer.

For gang I say:
6 Cruise Launchers II 2 Named remote repairers 3 DAmpeners 2 Sensor Boosters 1 MWD (or point if you dont have small tacklers) 1 1600 RT 2 EANM 1 DC 1 BCU
THis work well when all gang focus on same concept. Remote repairing is far superior if your ship already has high slots more than you can use your primary weapon.

The raven's high mass and low top speed means it's a no-no. Well, you can do it, but it would be incredibly subpar, and would die easily to your standard PvP raven.

Edited by: Dryxonedes Sae on 14/07/2007 13:07:33 Gank and tank can work for PvE, it really doesn't for pvp as soon as there is a group involved... I stopped reading half way though the 3rd page, but I have to agree with Ryysa for the most part. I don't like flying a battleship without a "real" (I label an active tank as real - bad habit i know, but meh) tank, but you could compare a rack of damps to being 100% resist across the board. It completely stops a couple of ships being able to deal damage to you, and possibly to a few other people aswell. To me, in short, if your in small gang fights, you can FORCE the opponent to target only your tank/tackler, which puts you 3 steps ahead of them (win, win, win?).
Originally I was a caldari missile toting pilot, but once becoming involved more often in PvP I saw the errors of my ways. Cruise ravens sporting ewar IMO are gems. You can provide reasonable dps to any situation, the delay on missile travel time isn't too bad unless your at long range, and absolutely, most importantly, you can reduce the enemies dps, to me, nothing rates above that. **** Where's the problem? Good in theory. The remote reppers and dampers require good gang communication in practice though. Personally, I'd drop the web, scram and maybe even the cap booster for more ewar - dampers or tracking disruptors - and a sensor booster or two. Chuck some repper drones in as well. Then get 2 or 3 of these to sit with your ECM boats, providing massive ewar support, mutual repping and reasonable long-range firepower. As for rigs, maybe an armour hardener rig would be more cost effective than the trimarks - I can't remember the prices offhand. The damper strength rigs are very useful, as are the tracking disruptor strength rigs, if you're fitting like that.

Ragtag gang I'd agree with Ryysa and co and BE, damps and an armor tank.
However in an organized gang with logistics backup and lots of rep drones zipping around a tanked raven is both a very tough nut to ***** and an excellent anti-cruiser platform, not too shabby vs battlecruisers and destroyers either. Great for taking out the enemy logistics cruiser for example. Usually I fit cruise, however if theres a couple of painters in the gang and several good tacklers then it's sensible to upgrade to torps.
Also don't FoF do exactly the same damage as standard t1 with the skill at lvl 5? Sure they're a pain and the devil himself seems to select their targets but when your under heavy jamming (as in Scorp/Rook lovin') they're a lot better than nothing. I know the one thing that I normally end up running from in my scorp is a cruise raven.

Why would u train FoF to lvl 5 and get the 5% per lvl bonus when u can train Cruise missiles to lvl 5 ang still get the 5% bonus? how does the fof make same dmg when u got them both to lvl 5? ... cruise will always do more if its the same lvl ...

Well the only big problem I see with not fitting a shield tank on it would be long engagments under sentry fire. Damps are good when u lock faster than your target but when your target is faster than u (which they always are in a raven) u damp nothing, u tank nothing, and since its armor tanked u have no damage.
A sensor damp raven is only good when u control where and how you are going to jump someone.
With that if u do know when where and how it becomes a great ship for damps and armor tank, when in 0.0 or not tanking sentries.
With my 6 slot shield tank I can hold back a gank mega solo long enough to blow him up first with t2 torps, and when bs 5 done it will be a alpha strike around 1000 a piece.
So in all, both setups are useful just depends on the situation and the security status or concord aggro.
But here is one thing for u, damp raven vs shield tank raven. Both slow as snot and if u next to each other then the shield tank wins as it has more dps and much better tank. While your trying to damp I will just start throwing fof missles everywhere and u will die and the tank will easily hold the armor raven dps and keep ticking like nothing is going on.

for raven, medium maintance bots would be better, leaving u with just enuf space for 5 light drones on top

Hmm somehow most people arguing here probably have different situations in mind. Would help to state for what kind fo scenario you think your fit is better.
Also Raven is actually very nice in small to midsize gangs, because compared to many close range setups you deal a lot more damage (note, not maximum possible DPS, I mean overall dmg in the fight), due to not needing to get into optimal. From the beginning of the fight (minus some seconds flight time at the beginning), you can dish out your full DPS, all the time, no fuzzing around to get in range or such. If the enemy is only spread out a little bit (say 30km apart), I would take 2 ravens over 2 Blasterthrons any time of day (but that's me, others may think different).
If shieldtank or damps is better has to be answered with a very clear:"That depends", there are situations where either one would have been better/means the loss. It's really the question where you start at (for example you gatecamp, I would go damp, you attack gatecamp jumping in, I would go tank).
But anyways, Raven is far from useless in PVP and it doesn't have to hide behind other BS (in gangs), just because people see movies all the time where ratting ravens are ganked by some people warping in on them. You can do the same to pretty much any other BS, with a ship that's under that class.

With all due respect Ryysa. you should realize when yo are wrong about something and stop argueing before you start looking stupid.
fofs work. Not only that. they work great. Not only as damage when you're jammed but as... let's call it "a tool to handle another weapon system". Not gona give away more then that And this I say as someone who uses them daily, instead of someone who's just trained them to lvl1, and then decided that they suck. __________________________________ Gallente by birth. Raven is probably the best DPS ship caldari have for gangs. That said, it sucks as a DPS ship. And it aligns way too slow for small gangs.

Edited by: Shiodome on 27/09/2007 05:12:29 thought i'd add a setup, i'm aware it will get abuse as it's tanked etc... i started out with my raven fitted out with damps etc, but found that with the gangs i was flying with it just wasn't needed and i ended up more as the 'juicy target' to pick the fights...
highs: 6 best named cruise, 1 heavy Neut, 1 med Neut Mids: X-L booster, Invuln, therm passive hardener, 2 x shield boost amps, large cap booster (800 charges) Lows: 2 x BCU, 2 x gravimetric backup array, 1 overdrive, 1 DCU Drones: 5 light ecm, 5 hammerhead Rigs: EM rig, r.o.f rig
(all T2 with a few exceptions for fitting costs)
--
job is essentially to pick a fight and last longer than expected (megathrons especially don't seem to like neuts), drawing more people into the fight for gang mates to come join from a few systems away. doesn't need tackle, as it's supposed to be the 'victim' no-one will run away from it as it's DPS is poor and its another kill as far as the agressor is concerned. this week quite happily survived vs a mega and hyperion, actually broke the mega's tank (cap) before their backup... and consequently my gang joined in. (this is low sec btw)
anyway, guess the point of my post is to take setups from the forums... but don't stick to them religiously, adapt them for the gangs you fly in, the area you live in, the way you fly... don't be afraid to decide for yourself and try stuff, making your own mistakes. and insure your ship so you can replace mistakes _____________________________________ today i am this cool: [uncool]================[*]====[cool]

Ok, guys this is really starting to get me down...
Other than I suck at PVP, Why have I destroyed 4 ravens? I understand that if someone gets up close and personal its usually all over, but I just fought someone in a Hyp. and the Damps didn't work... I still did lots of damage, but his armor reps were too good.
Whats the tatic? How Do I use a raven in 1 on 1. Options to train another ship just because it is the current cookie cutter are not accepted.
I have tryed Shield tank, which I must say works better than the armor tank, and the sensor damps were worthless... Maybe I need to get better sensor skills...
Thanks for your help.

You can get an acceptable shield tank, and damage output if you use a heavy cap injector, and 5 slots of shield tank.
Unfortunately, if you do that, you also end up unable to control the fight - no MWD, web or scram, means they just leave if they're losing.
Soloing in a raven is really tough as a result. RSDs _can_ be useful, but really you need 3, and then you supplement with ECM drones. Break their lock, and they take a long time to re-lock you. Kill their drones first, and that will probably do you quite well.
But at the end of the day, Ravens just aren't all that great - they need support, and when they get support, then another BS is probably a better choice anyway. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? GMP and TNP |

IŠll give you the best advice you can have: The dampeners didnŠt work because the Sensor Linking skill WAS IN YOUR CARGO instead of your brain. No wonder the Myrmidon locked you with no trouble. And think again before you start calling us dishonorable because a Hyperion misunderstood and warped in towards the end of the 1v1 battle you were losing anyway.
