Originally by: Bienurdau Hywoaf We had devs who were caught up in a scandal and its fallout for far to long. They still have not to the satisfaction of many addressed the issue appropriately. They spent almost an entire month of blogs attacking the whistleblower rather than punishing the guilty dev or providing game relevant blogs about game direction.
The lag has consistently gotten worse over the last 6 months. This lag is affecting the mission runners, plexers, and pvpers the most. Anything in which there seems to be considerable objects on the same grid seems to induce lag for many.
Bingo. I think that if I discovered eve today I would not play past the trial.
I came VERY close to cancelling my sub because of that. It's wasnt so much the fact that one of the devs was giving his friends free stuff, it was the way CCP handeled it. The 'were handling it internally so dont't talk about it on the forums' deal was a slap in the face of the community. My respect level for CCP droped waaayyyy down after that incident and the ensuing pr disaster (no other word for it). We have recived no offical appology and have heard nothing about it from CCP since. There are some things the community won't just forget about with time, and this is one.
Also, the lag both server wise and client wise is just stupid. The game engine is something like 4 years old and still taxes even the most powerful PC's, not to mention the black screens, modules failing to activate, jump qeues, market breakdowns, and the inability to lock anything if there are more than 200 people on grid. The "need for speed" seems more like "the Need for more dev blogs". _______________________________ Pleese exucse any seplling erorr's in tihs psot |

I've played this game on and off for 3 and a bit years. It is nowhere close to the game that drew me in, I just dont feel the same buzz playing that I had in the past. Its not just me, there are several people who I know that started when EVE was new that have just set a long skill and said that they will be back SoonTM
Idiot whorums will say 'pvp more', the fact is that I did plenty of that and while it was fun in the past, with the current situation of blob's and lag you are more likely than not to click jump and wake in a station .... "wow, how much fun was that, what an antiblast." Couple that with mechanic bending tactics that CCP condones instead of actually fixing them just sickens people.
The fact is that there are a lot of decent MMO's out there and EVE is visibly getting worse while they are visibly getting better. I can play one of the newest of them on highest settings and it looks fantastic and there is little to no lag. Eve just lags, all the time and apparently everywhere.
So I'll set Command ships 5 on one account and BC 5 on the other and leave for several months.... yeh yeh, I will not let the door hit me on the ass, and my stuff will be in a can outside a newbie station |

People might be getting sick of the problems. I cancelled an account myself, just didnt see the point in throwing more money at them. Oh and those arent 30k players btw, probly more like 20k with alts, not counting the sweatshop farmers and Macros.

Right now there are 30+k people online, something that simply wan't there this time last year. It is clear more people are playing eve, BUT you do have a valid point. Because summer is coming up and people are going to have LOADS of time to play eve we are going to see more than that 30k online in my opinion, but its not summer yet. I think you are noticing the decline in number brought on by people sitting exams this time of the year, a tempory thing that will not bring the end of the world, let alone this game.
So enjoy the reduced lag while you can, once summer hits, its going to be wild with people, hot, and full of server shutdowns... * * * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euZ0j7vtKEQ

A fairly reasonable looking android replica is left behind, but it doesn't have the urge to play eve at all, it just becomes a forum troll.

It has nothing to do with summertime. People are leaving hand over fist. Most of the vets I know are leaving because they are sick of the game, and if I ahdn't invested so much time into EVE I would consider leaving also.

We have absolutely no sane way of discerning the reasons for this drop in the PCU. WoW has "end subscription poll" if I'm not mistaken, so at least the company knows the apparent reason.
I would kindly ask the regular forum whiners not to use this as "proof" their problem of choice is making people leave. You whine the loudest, yet you are still here.
The period is too short to make a trend out of it. If and when it becomes a trend, CCP might make some moves to identify the reasons for the trend.

I think I read somewhere that the average life of an Eve player is 6-8 months(I could be wrong) All the people who started playing the game because of Revelations are now at the end of their adventures.

As a new player, take my opinions for nought, but here's my reactions to the game as a whole.
Quote: There are probably a number of factors. EVE is aging as a game. That is one factor.
That's probably a major factor. Even if a new player is looking for a mmog to play, it's not so much that eve's old, it's that no-one talks about it. If it wasn't for a friend casually mentioning that he used to play, I'd never have even known eve existed
Quote: EVE is not particularly new player friendly. It has hard for new players to break out in the game, and thus they decide quickly that since they can't make a difference they leave.
It's honestly not all that bad. It was fairly easy for me to get an overall feel of the game, and I know from the forums that end-game you're pretty much a cog in your alliance's war machine, but in all honesty, you're never going to make a difference in a mmog. What happens when BoB controls the known universe? people start slowly taking it back. Nothing is permanent
Quote: We had devs who were caught up in a scandal and its fallout for far to long. They still have not to the satisfaction of many addressed the issue appropriately. They spent almost an entire month of blogs attacking the whistleblower rather than punishing the guilty dev or providing game relevant blogs about game direction.
You've hit the nail on the head there. The first thing I learnt about ccp is that they're a fairly shady company. A company who allows the purchase of in-game items for cash as long as they get a cut, frankly, can not be particularly moral. Also, if a new player researches eve, they'll certainly find out about that particular gm misadventure
Quote: The lag has consistently gotten worse over the last 6 months. This lag is affecting the mission runners, plexers, and pvpers the most. Anything in which there seems to be considerable objects on the same grid seems to induce lag for many.
Actually, off topic, but how do you actually check your lag? I haven't been able to find a latency measure anywhere other than clicking in space and counting how long it takes to start turning
Quote: It is difficult to say what the long term effects will be, because it is difficult to predict what the devs might do in the future. It is likely that at the time of the next major patch we will see a small increase again. However it is also possible that EVE has had its golden age and is now entering a period of decline as games of this type do. I suppose the devs can be happy that the decline is not swift as it was for SWG after SOE introduced the NGE.
Yep. An unfortunate fact is that mmog's more than any other game have a shelf-life. The fact that the developers have moved to full digital distribution is a major telling point. Eve is a declining game. It won't burn as fast as most others, given that it occupies a niche most other games of the genre aren't after (everyone's too busy designing the next WoW to design the next eve), but eventually, every mmog's servers shut down eventually

It would really be a shame if for the reasons that some of you have posted, a downward trend develops. I also have played this game for 2/3 years, and I am an addict. The luxury of training whilst offline is a very important factor to me, especially lately as I have some health issues. I still retain my subscriptions, two accounts for me and two for my son, but I am not plating at the moment, just skill changes etc.
I am optimistic that CCP will address the important points that need "fixing". If a trend does become apparent, I am sure that they will.
At the time of the so called scandal, I was furious at the way that CCP handled it. But, water under bridges etc. I am prepared to put that into history, unless it recurs, then I will be gone.
I would sell my soul, my body, and my entire family for a Navy Raven. (Just kidding .... my soul is not for sale)

lag is a big issue getting worse of late for no apparent reason titans ( getting blown up from a i-win button) has probably shoveled a lot plus the fact wow the new game is out know a lot of peeps that vanish to go play wow
delay in factional warfare ( rev 3.0) rev 2.0 will be weak and later this year around winter u might see the game hit 40k real quick)
um other factors the older players getting bored with a lack of missions and a lack of exploration content ( 1 per 3 systems that is run within 40 minutes of downtime each day in empire) where 55% of the plaeyr base resides really was a bad idea ( CCP More varied but low reward ones throughout empire)
youre push into pushing players into 0.0 isnt working because of the large war going on ( tho that is probably taking a lot of PVPers out of empire as well)

I don't believe in not saying something just because it might actually materialize. To much harm has been done with people remaining quite.
Talking about it might at least give "us" a chance to change the trend rather than "hope" it all gets better on its own.
Everyone has made valid points, but I can't accept the one where people play less because it's summer. I play MORE during my time off, even with going outside to enjoy the summer breeze, though I don't spend 18 hours out in the sun! That argument is ridiculous.
