That 40 minute (!!!) ship battle at the end just dragged and dragged, and was ridiculous ow the other fleets didn't get involved. Thankfully Bloom got much less lines than in the other films, but Rush and Nighy were still criminally underused. Depp was still pretty good, but not as knock-your-socks-off as the other two films. What REALLY bugged me was the whole Barbossa-comes-back-to-life thing. Not only did bringing him back seriously ruin the whole drama of Pirates 1, but it was then barely explained in about two lines. Not only that, but it was rife with inconsistencies; if Calypso could bring him back, why not Jack? Why was it "impossible" to bring Governor Swan back to life, like Elizabeth asked, if he'd just died exactly the same as Barbossa (shot or stabbed or some such)? It seemed like just a poorly thought out gimmick to get Rush back in it. I mean if they can't even handle a trilogy without plot holes, thats pretty poor. Still good fun, though. *********Spoilers to follow************* 1. The only point of calypso was as the catalyst of Davey Jones, and his reasons to have stoped doing his job. I.E. ferrying the souls of the dead. 2. The rest of the fleets, with the opening of the malestorm it would have been to hazardes to try and cross the gap for them to engage. And why would the east india trading company fleet, who had been working with the ductchman and seens its combat prowess and utter destruction to entire fleets, go head to head with them. I would just turn tail and run. Why pick a fight you cant win. 3.I concure with all the furhter statements. Excelent movie, I actualy think it chased down plotlines pretty well. I think there where too many plot lines overall but it did a decent job of creating a "new" mythos of the sea. Its a well told yarn. 4. Gefory Rush, is in my opinion, the best pirate I have ever seen potrayed on the silver screen. I wish they would have used him more. I figured it would have been better to explain it as the whole undead monkey thing they used. At the end of the credits of the first movie, the monkey stole a coin from the chest, in theroy all it had to do was give a coin to a mostly dead barbosa. As for why the where able to bring back Barbosa, and not Jack. Barbosa was killed outright. Dead and in the other world . . . I'm guessing hell. Jack was kept in more of a purgatory. Referd to as Davey Jones locker. And was also considerd a place worse then hell. They couldnt bring back the governer becase he had made peace and accepted his fate. Not to mention he was back with his wife. Over all I enjoyed the movie. The best scene was when the captain of the EITC was walking down the stairs of the ship as it splinterd around him. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Central Defiance says "check out our movie" DEFY

Not quite. The curse actually falls on whoever removes a coin from the chest, simply being in possession isn't enough so just giving him the coin wouldn't have worked.

Hypatia Iola Caldari Central Defiance Terror In The System	Posted - 2007.05.28 17:23:00 - [42] okay, adding a better review now: Pirates 3 was better in every way than pirates 2, but still not as good as pirates 1. in parts it was a royal pain in the ass to follow (my problem may, as usual, be attributed to sleep deprivation though). The did an impressive job of having the characters grow and change throughout the trilogy, as well as at least paying homage to common sense in character behavior, which in the second was distinctly lacking. They did a good job of making it unclear who was on which side. The ONE thing that i'd really have changed was that every time the chips weere down, Kiera Knightly gave a speech. A mediocre, unconvincing speech. Beyond that i might have changed the wedding scene, don't get me wrong it was HILARIOUS to me in that "dear god it's so damned cheesy" way. There were quite a few very good scenes and shots, but frankly the level best scene in the entire movie was without a doubt, when Jack checked his compass, went "aha!" grabbed the rum, THEN started on his next epic quest. oh and Rush was again, phenomenal. I represent only my own views, they just happen to be the right ones.

Posted - 2007.05.29 22:40:00 - [45] i really liked the movie, i had some really good laughts. best thing was: i was watching the first part with a friend before and at the point where they were firing spoons and forks at the pearl i said: it would be so funny if they would fire with monkey which would attack the enemy's crew like the half life headcrabs. i nearly fell out of my seat when i saw the monkeyshot :D btw, who else thought that the beginning was kinda hard for a film like potc? i mean, hanging a kid, come on... btw2: what do you think, part 4 2009? there are enough things that point to another movie (i personally think they shouldn't do it, but anyways...).

I saw this on Saturday, and would have walked out of the auditorium if not for the fact I was with company. The plot just got sillier and sillier the more it went on, and just about every scene was dragged out far too long. Even with the fighting at the end, I lost interest after a few minutes. The only two redeeming things about the movie were the monkey who was frankly hilarious, and the Keith Richards cameo. Pirate brethren...what a load of tripe. Pirate King? Pirate code? Calypso? WTF! The sad part is someone somewhere was probably paid to come up with that garbage. (I did think the upside down boat bit was quite clever too). I just hope that the third Bourne movie and Transformers can bring some hope back for this Summer's big movie releases. ------------- My T2 Shop

This Hong Kong slap-a the stick, so so funny, is so so tired and beneath me for entertainment, it being for kids from 11 sounds about right, they might've gotten 7 if it wasn't for Legolas' leg fetisch.
