I'm happy with Eve on the whole, however there are several severe underlying issues from my point of view as a player that need to be addressed :
> CCP's recent habit of changing game mechanics by folding to the masses when whine threads start. It needs to stop, CCP gives us the tools to play the game, we should not dictate how those tools are designed. We merely use them.
> The ongoing problems with certain alliances in game, their attitudes to the community and CCP, the amount of "Metagaming" going on, and player relations with CCP. This needs to be addressed before it starts to have a serious detrimental effect on the playerbase. Mass perma-bannings are in order, to be honest.
> The lack of communication regarding out of game events. The E-On awards is a prime example of this. Final voting was meant to open to the masses on April 16th. It didn't and no-one was informed why. It opened several weeks late. Now, with six weeks to go to the actual event, all we have is a Venue. No tickets are on sale and nothing has actually been said regarding opening times and the like.
> Hardware Stability. I beleive this is being addressed in a number of patches that are coming out in the run up to Revelations 2. Long term goals should, as they are if I recall correctly, be to stabilise the playing environment before adding oodles of new content for us to explore. New content is great, but it's not enjoyable at 3fps on a bungee cord because of de-synch.
> The Criminal Flagging system. It's a mess, completely and utterly. People get podded by sentries, flags time out and people still get shot at by station and gate guns, session change timers run over so people die instead of being able to jump or dock.
Other than these few issues, Eve is as great as it has been.
A couple of these issues are pretty serious, but with a constantly growing playerbase CCP on the whole appear (with a few hiccups along the way) to be doing the job.
I still have faith in CCP given the current climate and discussion on the forums, and I'm subscribed for the next year or so if I recall correctly. If I wasn't enjoying Eve, I wouldn't be here.
How the next year pans out is their choice. I just hope that for the sake of such a once vibrant gaming community, and such a good pack of people who design and support the environment we play in, those choices are the right ones.
