Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 27/05/2007 17:08:55 Just curious really, of two things; Can a thread stay free of the current affairs(doubtful but possible), and who's happy with EVE as it is?
As it is meaning, changes come and go, people grief and don't, players carebear and pirate and it's all part of this thingy we have on our respectful computers.
I must say, if it isn't so painfully obvious at times, that i'm a happy camper(some will get that) and i take every new thing added, nerfed or changed as a addition. As an example, the cloak probing, just a reasonable technological advancement from goverments to fight the fight.(saying it as an example, not as a thing to be debated on this particular forum bit )
Just curious here, don't shoot the questioneer, or well...do..instead of me

I love the game, but not the constant changing of the goal posts. You spend months planning and training - only to have the "rules" change

Pretty mixed. Happy with some aspects. Others need massive re-write/re-policy. Not just the bugs, which is part of computers, but the thought-processes that went/continue to go on behind the scenes. Phoenix Logistics Industries |

I am happy, some things could be better, but the game is still better than anything out there for my money. I am not adverse to change though and will try out other MMOs as they come along.
I just doubt I will find another one where killing anyone is allowed anywhere...

I'm happy with Eve on the whole, however there are several severe underlying issues from my point of view as a player that need to be addressed :
> CCP's recent habit of changing game mechanics by folding to the masses when whine threads start. It needs to stop, CCP gives us the tools to play the game, we should not dictate how those tools are designed. We merely use them.
> The ongoing problems with certain alliances in game, their attitudes to the community and CCP, the amount of "Metagaming" going on, and player relations with CCP. This needs to be addressed before it starts to have a serious detrimental effect on the playerbase. Mass perma-bannings are in order, to be honest.
> The lack of communication regarding out of game events. The E-On awards is a prime example of this. Final voting was meant to open to the masses on April 16th. It didn't and no-one was informed why. It opened several weeks late. Now, with six weeks to go to the actual event, all we have is a Venue. No tickets are on sale and nothing has actually been said regarding opening times and the like.
> Hardware Stability. I beleive this is being addressed in a number of patches that are coming out in the run up to Revelations 2. Long term goals should, as they are if I recall correctly, be to stabilise the playing environment before adding oodles of new content for us to explore. New content is great, but it's not enjoyable at 3fps on a bungee cord because of de-synch.
> The Criminal Flagging system. It's a mess, completely and utterly. People get podded by sentries, flags time out and people still get shot at by station and gate guns, session change timers run over so people die instead of being able to jump or dock.
Other than these few issues, Eve is as great as it has been.
A couple of these issues are pretty serious, but with a constantly growing playerbase CCP on the whole appear (with a few hiccups along the way) to be doing the job.
I still have faith in CCP given the current climate and discussion on the forums, and I'm subscribed for the next year or so if I recall correctly. If I wasn't enjoying Eve, I wouldn't be here.
How the next year pans out is their choice. I just hope that for the sake of such a once vibrant gaming community, and such a good pack of people who design and support the environment we play in, those choices are the right ones.

Eve has a stupidly large scope for expansion (some would say infinite, like the space it simulates). I enjoy seeing all the game world slowly get filled in, though i think we could do with a lot more scenery
Currently I am happy to play Eve as a half/half industry combat character with stuff to do all the time and stuff to switch to if I ever get bored.
The industrial aspects of the game are oh so close to perfect for any game I've ever played. In short, my three things I'd like to see in the next few years are- Branding
- Trade Goods Manufacture
- Un-nerf T1 by reducing rat loot drops / changing all loot to drone style compounds or tags
I await with baited breath factional warfare, which as a player who is currently into the roleplay side of the game, could make or break Eve for me

Edited by: Setana Manoro on 27/05/2007 19:02:47 Gonna adress this to CCP, much easier to write. :)
What i don't like : 1 - lag, but it is adressed continously. 2 - metagaming, when the only way to kill a titan is to wait for it to log off then it is a problem. 3 - several things were implemented on TQ even though the SISI player base advised CCP on not doing and have shown reasons for it. Don't exactly assume that everybody is a genious but they were right about i-stabbs and contracts - being able to see eve-wide contracts and not able to claim them eve-wide if they are public still sucks big time. 4 - CCP staff / bob interaction. Let me clear this up a bit. This game has been developed with the help of old members of BOB, i know this and so do many ppl. Ok, you guys talk with some BOB members on regular on IRC/MSN, no problem; RL friendships shouldn't be cancelled on account of a game. But put this in the same pot with the fact that many allegation have been made in the last 9-10 months, some of them proven, some of them admited ... and it's not OK anymore. You guys need to draw a line, right now this kind of conduct is hurting your business and my enjoyment of the game. I really hope the investigation clears something up, but if with the Kugu incident that kind of handling worked, i doubt a "we find nothing wrong" will work now. Don't break the bloody relations but draw a bloody line. 5 - several CCP statements. Please revise them, think them over a few times, ask some English speaking friends but please don't put announcements that are talked off for months and disected because the message they are carying is very mixed. I won't say who's statements i am thinking off ... it is kinda obvious. :)
PS: What I am saying and the fact that i put an emphasis on the dev/bob interaction is because I do love this game, and I really would not like to see it borked. --------------------------------------------------

Just got a second account tbh, I think the people complaining about the game being ruined are also the ones who set out to ruin games, exploit and tell everyone else to 'BOYCOT CCP LOL'. I don't think most people buy into that bull**** and realise what a great game CCP have made here. The only real problem I see is the lag, and we know they're trying to fix it.

I bascially like Eve as is. But there are a few things I'd like to see "fixed."
1) Lag. Makes fleet fights an exercise in frustration. FIX. IT. NOW. PLEASE.
2) POS Wars. Current POS warfare is kinda boring. Not sure of the fix, but... meh...
3) Titans. Goofin' up 0.0 warfare IMO.

Is it human nature ? Negative publicity seems to always prevail... to a laughable extend.
Quote: <-- Behold, the eve-o forums
Eve is still the best game of the world in my book , or I wouldn't dedicate so much time to it. If anything , I log out / go afk mostly because it's physically draining.
As someone posted on the official drama thread , people tend to whine the most about things that have no significant impact on their game , just because they think it does. Anything can arouse the mob's anger , no matter how trivial.
Even I am deeply annoyed by some parts of Eve , related to metagaming. But on second thoughts , my problem with it is mostly ideological. And we're talking about a game here.
As a matter of fact , the game has always remained enjoyable to me , as long as I didn't sheepishly go for the easy way and spent some time thinking or some will daring. If for some reason , your enjoyment of the game has been ruined and unrecoverable... YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG

With all it's problems and challenges, it is by far and away the best game around for me and even with all the continual drama, it has less dama than a lot of mmorpg's.
CCP keeps adding new toys and things keeping getting better as I see them, so I said what the hell and got a second account. These guys obviously care deeply about the game and it shows imho.
I really enjoy the fact that the devs and the team of CCP as well as ISD are as accessible as they are. I think it adds a very positive dimension to the game that I think most people take for granted. The continual dev blogs, radio broadcasts, eve-tv all the different ways they communicate to the community and the fact that they frequently respond to questions on the forum. I think these things really make Eve live and breathe. I hope that CCP tries to remain close to the community as they continually develop the game. I haven't been here that long, and it has improved a tremendous amount from the time I started.
Hats off to ISD, all the volunteers and CCP for bringing us Eve.

Pretty much summed up here. I'm relatively happy although "recent events" (and I mean over the last 18 months) are beginning to weigh on my mind.
If there's a problem with some people in the game and how they interact with the staff, and the staff as well, here, then just ban them. Get rid of them.
The bad publicity and feeling that gets generated is not worth it. So some ancient accounts (4 yrs) get banned or whatever. That's their problem.
I think the Devs (and by devs I mean the REAL devs, not GMs or the like) are doing a great job. But they need someone who is under CCP *PAY* to look out for these GMs and "volunteer" staff and make sure they stay on track. Because when one of them screws up, it looks bad.
One thing to add: some consistency please. One GM will answer a petition in the total opposite of another GM. There needs to be an Eve Bible, so to speak. If "pos bowling" is petitionable by one gm, and yet "within established rules" by another ... who is right, who is wrong?
Let's get everyone working on the same page, and get our facts straight. And let's move forward, through these messes. Ban anyone who, well, excuse my French, F**ks about, and just get on with it.

Although Eve is by no means perfect, it's still a hell of a lot better than every other MMO out there. Pirates of the Burning Sea, other Space Games, and of course WoW and the like all fail in comparison to just how the mechanics here allow quite a bit of freedom. Where else can a few entrepeneurs hold a stifling monopoly over critical items, and jack up the prices? :P (I'm looking at you, old pre-rev CovOps II Cloak BPO Holders!) ~~~

Eve's great, it's constantly evolving, needs constant adaption.
If I wanted to see any changes Id like to see a bit more for the 'little guy' - the solo player, the small corp. Nothing drastic, perhaps a new smuggling system, or bounty hunting, that sort of thing. Less uber gate camp, more belt skirmishes.
The forums right now? - yeeesh - thats something else entirely...

I love the game, and its design is the best I have ever played in all my 19 years of online gaming. I am happy with a lot of the upcoming changes in Revelations 2. I am not happy with CCP player/employee interaction policies, nor am I happy with the user-interface or the lag.
