So weeks and weeks of standings grinding, 1.9bil isk saved up and now you are removing 4 functions just because 2 of them "can't" be fixed?! way to go!
Can't you just remove copy and invention for alliance use?(or announce that BPC's being stuck will not be dealt with as petitions anymore) as ME/PE work fine and are very useful.... my 6 member corp(2 actual people, 3 alts each) has no use for 12 mobile labs, but to the alliance they are very useful indeed.

Seems the most sensible option to me (until they are fixed, which they should be).

CCP is incompetent. There are dozens of examples all over the place from their method of "fixing" the Blood Raider complexes to their complete inability to fix forum bugs that have been around 4 years and can be traced to a single line of code. I could name dozens and dozens of situations in which CCP chose the easy way out rather than actually fixing the problem (ship logs anyone?!)
The problem isn't that they couldn't deal with the problems--it is that they choose not to. They're certainly skilled enough to deal with almost any issue that they've ignored/overlooked.
They choose not to because they don't have the resources to fix it right now. That's what the reply said. I think people are just over-simplicating the "easines" of fixing someething and how swamped game developers are. And sometimes leaving things be, or not fixing them, is simply a call you have to make in games. In published, single player shooter games you decide this way before the game hits the shelves. With MMO's, the problem comes with that, you only see how things work after a while and after the 30k players online at 23/7 get their mints on it. Then they just have to go "can't do it" or "that was a bad idea" and remove it.
They ARE NOT sitting with their thumbs up their...*ahem*..thingies while laughing at your complaints. But as soon as they answer with something, be it an answer you don't like, it's "gloves off let's fight you suck" time. And you lot wonder why devs don't answer threads
Calling them incompitent and saying they could easily fix it is a bit silly though don't you think?
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

And that's the crux, they are not 'leaving things be'. They are removing an entire game mechanic because parts of it do not work, instead of simply removing those individual parts that are faulty.

Yes and that's how game developement works. You sometimes go "Oh dear, that was a mistake, let's take it out 'cause we just can't fix it RIGHT NOW."
Just that MMO's are evolving, EVER evolving games, so the bugs come and go, features come and go and it's just how things roll.

That's just rehashing the same argument of 'No new features, bug fixes please'. They do need to constantly implement new features to keep the game dynamic. I think the argument in this case should be why are they removing a useful game mechanic simply because certain parts of it do not work?

Please expand on your information packed post.
Its obvious from Chronotis' post that they do infact know how to fix the problem, however they are unwilling to dedicate the resources to doing so.
Instead, the feel the new features like 'Heat' are better spending programming hours on.

Originally by: Ray McCormack But it's not a mistake, half of it works extremely well. Why remove the whole thing when you can just remove parts of it?
Probably 'cause it's not a "part by part" built thing.
They probably have to take it away as a whole, take it apart, modify the code and then put the good parts back in.
But since people are so "tolerant" of the shortcomings of features, "half of it works" isn't good enough for these people, i'd take it out completely aswell. If not only to set an example.
AND COULD YOU PEOPLE PLEASE!!!...sorry for the caps...understand that the coder doing heat, or the graphic artist doing overheating flashy animations...are NOT the same people who can touch the drone/manufacturing code.
Even if they decided to make new ships into the game, doesn't mean the drones would get fixed any faster/slower.
Resources in a game company arn't slices of pie that can be shifted around as pleased.

What use is a feature of it doesnt work?
These labs are a major part of gameplay for some people, how would you feel if the solution the bugs in the parts of the game you make use off, werent fixed, instead that game component was completely removed?

It just seems like the countless dev post stating they had people working on fixing the lag and other issues and having people developing new features is not taking away from that whatsoever. I'm sure CCP are doing everything they can towards fixing stuff and a few extra people isn't going to make a huge difference.

Thats merely your presumption.
As far as you are aware, the additional programming Chronotis talks of could be 2 people, hell it could be 1 person.
You know as much about whats involved in fixing these things, as the average person wishing for fixes not features.

You know this how? Or are you just guessing, based on your own assumptions about how eve is assembled?
As far as you know, the person working on heat could be the same person capable of fixing these labs.

Kudos for stepping up and clarifying the situation.
But seriously wtf? This is a major slap in the face for hi-sec POS owners and industrialist/inventors.
Releasing things half done and fixing them later is one thing, but releasing things half done and then abandoning it is poor form.

Would there not b a way to insert some code that said something like "If you click on copy in an Alliance Factory bring up error message saying "This feature is curently unavailable" and stop the attempted copy" This will allow them to keep the working features but remove the non working ones.

Maybe CCP wants to throttle back BPO research and copying that Research Alliances are allowing, and this is the perfect excuse to do so. Perhaps they have some over-arching plan to make researched BPOs less common (or at least maintain their current commonality) and they see alliance-allowed Mobile lab research as a threat to that.
More disturbingly, if they are removing alliance shared mobile labs, give up the hope of ever seeing public-available POS lab slots.

::EDIT:: Now that I'm calm. This is the last time i'll suffer the consequence of Developer stupidity. My opinion might be slightly biased here because of my relation to the game but...you guys REALLY need to stop releasing content until it ******* works. Bugs like this shouldn't be getting through QA. It smacks of sloppy, lazy error proofing skills. Would you trust an architect that failed to properly test and assure that his design can withstand every day elements?
Why is it that everytime I read these forums I find another reason to lose faith in the development team of EVE? WTF happened? This game showed such promise.

Ugh, I'm fairly sure I'm not the only person in the thread telling you that people are in charge of different things at CCP, be it new features, fixing features or making the tea. Having the teaboy sit in the room where they're trying to sort out lag isn't going to speed up fixing the lag. It just means the tea isn't going to get made. I have a feeling that if I put a wind turbine in front of you with a sign behind it saying 'I disagree' you could power most of London.
