Yeah, sure. Any decent fleet will die from boredom when attempting to catch your squad running away from them. Don't mix up gankage with fleet fighing. :) --------------------

agre with the comand ships... even if ur guys are rellativly fresh on skills or pimping there inties out a few nice gang bonuses u sudenly have a faction fitted inty squad tackling bs outsude of nos range and doing over 5kps (light drone speed and aviode alot of missiel damge + tracking).
To deel with that u can use the traditional eagle style sniper but against a fast dictor with extender a few cloaked rapiers waiting can be the way to go.
Try to remeber both sides will have the same starting ship types so the easy to say 25 titans would meen 25 titans v 25 titans, not something that would bring out good traning esp with different ship classes.

Edited by: TheArchJudge on 09/06/2007 11:56:04 All above are realy good fleets so after giving some though i came up with this
6 motherships (nyx's prefered) 3 cov ops (cheeta's > anything else) 1 dictor 10 curse's (speed fitted) 58 vaga's (with good pilots) 2 claymore (max skilled with skirmish gang assists)
A more guerila warfare approach than leeroying straight into fleets. Would only work in lag-free enviroment's (sp? :P)

nothing catches them, all of them can tackle 'im, all of them have pro-cruiser firepower, = pwnage ___

20x Abaddon - Mega Beam IIs, Energized Adaptive Nanos, Damage Control, 2x 1600mm Plates, Heat Sinks, ECCMs in the mids + dampeners
20x Tempest - 1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Energized Adaptive Nanos, Damage Control, 2x 1600mm Plates, Gyrostabilizers, similar mids to above
5x Raven - Cruise Launcher IIs with precisions, Sensor boosters, large extenders and invulnerability fields, plates in the lows
10x Carrier/MS - 1x Capital Remote Shield Transporter, 3x Capital Remote Armor Repairer, 1x Armored Warfare Module, Drone Control mod. Cap Rechargers in the mids
5x Flycatcher - MWDs and extenders
5x Huginn - Webs + target painters
8x Lachesis - Dampeners at long range + plating
5x Crow - Long Range tackling + speed
2x Buzzard
Basic idea is to have each of the carriers provide armor and shield transport for the BS, which can withstand punishment thanks to heavy plating and resists. Abaddons are specialized in stripping the shields off of shield tankers and normal ships while the 20 tempests 1-volley the armor and structure.
Ravens + Huginns focus on taking out support, with the crows moving in on heavier targets and applying fighters. Huginns also have fighters assigned, since there are too many for the crows to handle. The combination of precision cruise missiles, webifiers and target painters make anything smaller than a battlecruiser dead meat.
Lachesis group sits at range and spreads dampeners around enemy BS. The effective increase in locking time seriously degrades their ability to switch targets on the fly and decreases damage dealt to allied fleet.
Flycatchers warp in and out, applying bubbles to main groups of enemy BS with the help of warp in points provided by Buzzards. Buzzards are flown by FCs, making target calling more fluid since they don't have to worry about keeping themselves alive and don't have to fire on anyone. -----

Assuming no Capitals or Super Capitals:
Sniper BS fleet - 40 bs (Apoc, Geddon, Pest, Baddon, Hyp, Maelstrom, Mega, Rokh, 2-3 Scorps and / or Ravens) - Damage Damage Damage setup, 160 + km Range. Whoever is catched with a Plate or Hardener or Large Repper should be podded repeatedly.
Command Ships - Hacs - 30 ish of them - Should have 5 Eagles and 5 Munins.
5 Intys - No Afs.
3 Dictors
2 Cov Ops
_---
If you assume Caps and Super Caps then well :D
1 Titan - For the fear factor 2 Moms - Same as above + remote repping
7 Carriers - Repping
40 Snipe Battleships
20 Commands - Hacs (5 Eagles and 5 Munins)
2 Dictors
2 Cov Ops
6 Intys
So in both case, no Recons, no Assault Frigs, no T1 useless crap, no BCs. Maybe squeeze in a Logistic or 2 in somewhere. Especially in no caps setup.

A Traditional Fleet would have.
1. Damage Dealers...Turret BS. Min-Defence Max-Damage
2. EW...This can be recons scorps or even BB. Min-Def Max-EW
3. Support...Dictors and inties. Speed & Tackling
Nowadays I tend to see lots of
Commandships, Recons, HACs and Dictors roving about in fairly large gangs.
Its a pretty effective combo because it has the mobility and firepower. Also with the added Supercaps in this game BS heavy fleets are not advised unless you are confident enough that your BS's can evade DD's and large Fighter swarms.

Hmm... I really have to say it depends on if it's a roaming fleet or a pitched fleet engagement.
For a roaming fleet, I'd say fit for short range and speed. Because your more than likely going to be bum rushing opponents.
28 Blasterthrons (or a mix of them and autopests/abbadons) 6 Sliepners (All as commanders with one gang mod each, depending on what is in their squad) 6 huginns/rapiers (hold down any fast movers) 6 arazus all with max points. In a close range fight, the dampers are less useful. Better just to keep your opponent in place. 12 Rooks They are force multipliers, get the max DPS of the other gang choked out. 2 sabres for obvious reasons 8 crows so you can catch the other teams cepters. 2 cov ops
For a pitched fight
40 T2 sniper Mega/Tempest 8 Logistic fitted domis 20 Falcons set for max range 5 huginns for anti inty work 5 arty sliepners 2 cov ops -----

Okay... what are my objectives? what am I trying to achieve? how skilled (in real life) are the players under my command?
If this is a straight "kill as many of the other guy's ships as possible and lose as few of yours as possible" then my choice would be a battleship fleet of epic proportions, supported by carriers that are kitted out to the gills with remote repair systems and preferably triage modules as well.
believe it or not, for preference I'd prefer those battleships to be all Ravens. This probably sounds daft to most experienced FCs, but I reckon that a bunch of power-tanked Ravens fitted with shield transfer modules in their two free highslots and supporting each other would make for a really potent combination. Picture a fleet of ships that are kitted to weather any onslaught of damage long enough for their allies to lock them and boost their tank to hell. provided the ship weathers the initial assault, it gets called as "repair alpha" and within seconds is the target of as many shield transfers as are in range.
The downside to this? I'm laying a lot of onus on my pilots to be careful and infallible with who they repair and who they shoot. If I'm sitting there (and I'll be doing it cloaked and a long way above the battlefield so I don't get primaried and shot out of the fight) calling both a primary target and a repair alpha, I have to be working alongside a fleet of guys who can be trusted not to screw up and accidentally shoot the alpha and rep the primary.
However, the only time in which I would take that setup would be a no-brain slugfest. When it comes to more realistic fleet operations, the setup is perforce flexible - I'd have a different configuration for a gate camp than I would for a roaming gang, and something else entirely for hunting down lone wolf hunters in my alliance's home system.
Covering all the possibilities would not only take forever, it'd also give enemy Fleet Commanders an idea of my own MO as a senior FC, which I'd rather keep them guessing on for now. ***

2 Nyx, (close range firepower, extra foe held down) 1 Aeon (support, long range firepower)
70 t2 Fitted SniperPests / TachAbbadons / 425Throns
2 Command ships; Vulture and Damnation. (Armor and Shield resist bonus's)
3 High speed snake flycatchers
2 Cov ops
Strat: Cov ops get warpin and warp-out points. (One 170km off foe fleet, other right below foe fleet)
Assuming capitals re already in system, jump bs fleet in, engage, call targets, and as you land, order dictors to warp to enemy fleet and drop bubbles, then get out of firing range.
Warp Nyx's ontop of enemy fleet, unleash hell.
Aeon sits back and remote reps bs fleet.
2nd cov ops leaves enemy fleet, and creates safe warp-out points.
Cycle damaged battleships in-out, Rest should pan out nicely.

As something a bit off the wall -
1 Warfare-Linked Eos (with fleet command)
1 Warfare-linked Claymore (wing) 9 Huginn (fit web/paint) 9 Lachesis (fit with tackle and damp) 4 Crow (Standard missile/speed fit - Gistii mwd would be worth it here) 3 Sabre 2 Covert Ops
1 War-linked Damnation (Armor fit (wing II))
50 Damp/Plate/Rage Torpedo ravens
Divide your ships into 2-3 firing squads to call primaries with - nothing really will survive more than 2 volleys from these suckers when webbed and painted. Basically just get the drop on them and its over. Have each raven spread 1 damp per target of their choice - with 2x sensor boosters thats 4 ships each, given the painting on the primaries, you can probably do 5 each. While each raven won't disable a ship itself, chances are there will be a good deal of overlap. Also, with the warfare linked eos and damp rigs on a raven - the damp strength on the sensor damps are pretty sick.
It's not perfection in a fleet by any means but hell, it would be fun. You might be able to take on some capships with that much raw firepower. It's not as if they would ever be able to lock you (Excepting of course those pesky Motherships and titans, but titans are dumb and I bet that 50 rage torpedoing ravens would give a mothership pilot some pause. )
Anyhow, that is for a slightly less cookie-cutter strategy. _____________________________ Fear is the mind-killer.

30 Tempests (50/50 mix of close & long range) 20 Huginns 10 Scimitar 2 Cheetahs 2 Sleipnir 6 Hounds 10 Vaga's
Pure bias on the minny side for me, but can you imagine the Carnage it would cause

30 T2 Tempests (Split into 6 Alpha strike groups, setup gang squad lead possitions) 2 Covert ops (one above, one below fleet 400km apart) 2 Dictors (Warping in and out through gates asap to get enemy bubbled) 6 Crows (1 crow to each alpha group) 10 carriers (5 50km above the top Cov, 5 50km below the bottom, assiging drones from the bottom of A-Z overview, reparing the tempests that require) 5 Elite BC's with gang mods in around tempest as anti frig protections) 5 Vagabonds (To intercept enemy incoming cruisers) 10 Gangageddons (close range) 10 BlasterThrons
That should work pretty well vs a conventional fleet

If there was a set of rules to get people ready for all ship class combat used in allaince fights (medium to big scale ie 80 v 80 .. if u think thats a fair number).
Then .. once thats sorted u can give ship types to those numbers bearing in mind ur oppenents are allowed the same ship class numbers in each.
glad to see a few rapiers in there,,, they can out do eagles for anti tackle when stuff gets close.
nice to see some webbing recons in there,, think u need a few amongst eagles to work on suport up close.

Edited by: Yaay on 11/06/2007 15:55:24 This is really dependend on the allaince and the FC for the fight, but generally speaking:
30 Tempest (alpha strike is important)
10 Muninns (stick with the BS, take down anything that get's close
10 Vultures (Far far more durable than eagles at the same cost and a bit less agility. Generally speaking, with my setup, I can take 2-3 alphas from enemy in this ship before warping out.)
5 dictors (they pop easy and 1 isn't enough)
5 Ravens (tank and cruise missle fitted. Again good for close range cruiser killing, support role only)
1 damnation with a shield and armor hardening warfare mod, and whatever else you desire) 1 claymore with speed mods and info mods).
18 Crow's (tacking and speed, Support wins fights, battleships just pew pew)
You'll never get the ideal setup because people can't always fly the ships listed. Based on current game mechanics though, this is a solid fleet that's versitle and very mobile. The key is less uniformity of ships, and more of fittings. Rohks are nice ships, but they don't make much sense in fleets currently. Same with Abbandons. Megas work well. More than anything, ships don't matter, the people flying them do.
Like I noted above, Support win's fleet fights, battleships are just the power. Make sure you're support is competent before ever heading into a fight.
finally, make sure people know their ship. It doen't do you any good to fly a cruiser one day, a frig the next, and a bs/command every other wednesday. Try to stay within the same ship class, and if truely devoted, the same ship for most fights. The better you know your ship, the better you perform
