Hi, I'm wondering now days, what res do people play eve at, on what size monitor?
Using what graphics card?
Is your fps smooth?
I currently use a 19 in flat crt, @ 1600x1200, with a 9700 pro, and fps is very smooth unless I open up a bunch of windows with items in them.
I also just bought a viewsonic P225fB 22" which can do 2048x1536 res. If i remember correctly, eve can do this res. Can anyone confirm this?
Does anyone use this insane res? With what card, and what type of performance? |

Coincidentally, I just remembered that back in alpha, you could only play @ 1024, and I used an original GeForce 256 ddr to play. The fps were smooth, at an avg of 50 fps. |

I play at 1024 X 768 with an old school CRT 19 inch monitor. Refresh at 70..
Right now I'm using an Nvidia Geforce 3 TI-500 64mb with the 45.23 drivers. (anything above that and my comp crashes at windows startup )
It runs pretty smoothy, though it gets a bit choppy if I have too much goin' on.

1280 x 1024 x 32@60, 2xAA, 8xAF on 18.1 NEC UltraSharp LCD Raddy 9700 Pro EVE fullscreen with 100% transparent 'pinned' windows (Props to CCP for making the text so readable, even at 100% transparency)
tied with a 3.06P4 and a gig of PC1066RDRAM, EVE runs like a champ and is just visually stunning. No jaggies here, and still very good performance even with all the alpha transparency going on. (again props for this).
I do have to relog if I play for more than 3-4 hours at a time due to 'jerky' graphics. I think this is a memory leak or something, as it clears up after a restart of eve, then I'm good to go for another 3-4 hrs.

Yes, going from a geforce 2 video card straight to an ATI radeon 9700 pro will be like night and day for you. I went from a geforce 3 to a 9800 non-pro card and it was definately noticeable improvement, especially turning on all the AA/AF options in games. And thats with identical system specs as yours.

i play on my main PC @ 1024 x 2560 i think, i use 2 monitors, it's quite good once u get used to it, plenty of space for windows. my other monitor on my second PC can only do 1024 x 768, but my laptop can do 1600 x 1200.
I could run 1600 x 1200 on my main PC fine with no fps troubles ( FX 5900 ultra inside ), but i found the text was too small to read, so i find 1280 x 1024 is best for me and the distance i sit from my screen, unless in need glasses.
i have found dual monitor setups to be very tricky with nvidia cards tho, have to run it in extended desktop mode and not nvidia dualview mode.
as for advanced grafix settings, my card will handle them all perfectly, but 2bh, when u play normally u don't need them all on.

Cornerstone p1700 21" monitor @ 1600x1200 using a NVIDIA GeForce3.
And Eve looks pretty good and runs pretty smooth, even though everything's 2-3 years old.

I use 1024x768 mode (32 bit color) on an old Gateway 17" monitor (don't laugh... it looks great as long as you don't go above 1024x768) and a Radeon 8500LE card (also plenty good enough for 1024x768). Frame rate is actually fine considering my old 1.2 GHz Athlon CPU, though I suspect a large fleet battle would be a bit jerky.
One nice thing about an old monitor... you don't need a top-end card to get top performance from it. It's not like I want to squint at 1600x1200 on a 17" screen anyway...

I run Eve @ 1280x1024 windowed most of the time on a 9800 Pro (128mb). Using the Omega drivers and settings in game and on the card at full, no issues to report unless in combat with a whole lotta ships.

if you're running ATI's catalyst drivers, you go to advanced graphics options, to the 3d tab. |

I also do 1024x768 windowed while doing missions, so that I can do something else at the same time (usually surf). --

Edited by: Rizmordan Hillgotlieb on 16/01/2004 01:07:58 You might be surprised at some of this...
Acct 1. built 2003 - $450 AMD 1800, 512mb ram, ATI 7500 64mb
Acct 2. built 2000 - $500 P3 800, 256mb ram, GF4 4200 64mb<--(2003-free)
All displayed on a 17" CRT monitor (free) and managed using a belkin switchbox.
Now all I have to do is actually spend some real money the next time for my 3rd Acct.

old GF3 Ti500@1152x860 surrounded by a corvette.
Sony Trinatron 21" monitor.
P4 2.4B, 512Mb PC1600 RAMBUS, 7200 RPM HDD, Audigy gamer, 550 Watt power supply.
Obviously, this system is begging for a better video card. Now that the ATI 9700's are only about 200$, I hope to grant my system's wish soon.
The game runs very smooth, but I haven't been in any high-traffic situations.
I ran the game nicely at 1280x1024, but it KILLS my eyes, even on a 21" screen. How do you guys stand the small text???
