Hey all,
I heard some contradicting stories, so i¦m wondering you can help me clear it up. Is Sparta NAP/friendly with BOB? Or, is their political situation somewhat more complex.
Thanks

No, I actually know basically nothing about the Sparta political situation except the fact that the emissaries have found their earth and water, albeit not in the location they expected.

Unless of course more people are interested in the answer, would you be the one to deny it to the others. I take it however, you are not interested, and therefor denying myself asking the usually helpfull community. Also, the thread overload in COAD isn't that much.
Thanks though for the tip.

I envy they're alliance name so much. It makes it seemingly impossible to get normal replies on a question concerning their political standings.

Yeah. Even our corp joined thinking it'd be a decent front to continue the war on. Didn't really last after the standings switch, as you can tell from my ticker

It strikes me that if the OP needs to ask a question like "what are X's standings towards Y", then perhaps he/she is not in a position to be effected by the answer. I'm sure SPARTA and BOB know their standings towards each other, as does everyone of importance that is involved.
That's like me asking "Hey... what is Morsus Mihi's standing towards FREGE?" It really doesn't affect me, so I don't give a toss.... though I'm sure both Morsus and FREGE have a general idea.
All that can be intended by a post like this is to stir up crap, and to be frank, the CAOD forums have really become around 80-90% crap-disturbing. I pitty the mods who have to read pages and pages of drivel (and "300" quotes, no matter how funny they may be).

FYI, we didn't pick the colour on the map. If you're interested in a more accurate description of events and aren't willing to take our word for it, I suggest you scan the MC campaign report for mention of Sparta. We don't feature very often, but its a fairly accurate report of events in our case.
As one of the many people who have joined Sparta well after the events of last year, this constant harping on about events from history seems pretty lame. Sparta has the energy and atmosphere of a fresh, young, alliance regardless of how long the name has been around. To continue to liken it to the "old" Sparta is misinformed at best. I think a lot of people would benefit from taking their heads out of the history books for a moment and thinking about the present and the future rather than what "might have been" or what "should have been". Sometimes this kind of attitude makes me want to head out to the drone regions because they don't have all the historical baggage. Fortunately, all I really have to do is remind myself that just because someone says it on the internet, doesn't mean its true.

Actually I think a better Greek analogy to the Sparta alliance would be the March of the 10,000 on the Persian expedition of 401 bc.
Brought into a Persian civil war by Cyrus the Pretender then abandoned deep in enemy territory upon his death, 10,000 Greeks made an epic fighting withdrawal over a thousand miles back home to Greece. . . . Regards, August |

I can understand this. As an ex-NFC & Sparta member though, I cannot help but remember how close to destruction they were at the whim of their neighbours. I didn't intend to "dig" at Sparta for their standings reset - quite the opposite; you have been pragmatic, and whilst many may not like you for this I applaud you. Hell, in many ways I'd quite like to (re)join you!

That was not my intention. The map however shows that the Sparta Alliance have made territorial gains as a result of the Mercenary Coalition contract in the north, and I was merely bringing this into the thread. The last time Sparta saw gains like these was after the GNW, when the "old" command structure re-established control over the alliance following the merging into Sparta of NFC.
So I see where you're coming from, but bizarrely it was the new Sparta that nearly saw it destroyed, and the old Sparta that brought it back from the brink.
At least that's what it appears like from the perspective of someone who last set foot in Deklein during the GNW.

Well, I think I see what you mean. This is the reason so many people hate BoB. Its the sure knowledge that if BoB decided to kill them, there is absolutely nothing they could do to stop it. This leaves people with the choice of accepting the new reality and making the best of it, or going down in a blaze of soon-to-be-forgotten glory. Choosing to live and fight another day may not be as exciting for the popcorn gallery, but then they weren't the ones faced with the choice.
Perhaps its easier for me, being a newish player (1 year). I'm not all emo about old friends, hated enemies, home ground, or past betrayals. I'm just looking at the current situation and deciding to make the best of it. I think Sparta is doing the same: Looking at reality, and living with the world as it is, not as we'd like it to be. Thats all anyone can do until they acquire the power to change the world.

People don't hate bob because they can destroy you they hate them by their attitude. The people that don't figth BoB are just loosing PVP experience ,and are deluding themselves if they think they aren't going to destroy them after they are done.
Has for the Sparta alliance ,when i read that they were "retreating" from the war made me sad because people now don¦t stand for anything, they just want to win and have space, mhee.

the future committed anti bob forces may have to hide in forgotten pockets of 0.0 or adapt to a hit and run mentality and if bob comes offering favourable terms decline and continue harassment.
Looks like slacker industries got converted easily after bombarding bob in delve one of very few outfits to be able to pull it off.

*sigh* ok if we want to be specific, Philip conquered Greece, except for Sparta, in a fell swoop and then made his grand plan of attacking persia after seeing Spartas sucsesses against the supposedly 'undefeatable' horde. After he conqered Greece he set up a the greek league which failed miserably several times because he valued the opinions of enlightened peoples such as the Athenians etc and tried to work with them as sort of equals, although back then not being stabbed upfront is equal so... But then he got assasinated and Alexander went off killing people.
But yes, sorry, persian conquests was after thermopylae. Fair cop. But its not like the new version of the movie yall quote like the bible is particularly accurate :)
But to get back to EVE related stuff...pretty sure the guy who made the maps put us in the same colour as the alliance bandwagon rather than us opting for it.
EDIT: gah types galore.

Originally by: 0August0 Actually I think a better Greek analogy to the Sparta alliance would be the March of the 10,000 on the Persian expedition of 401 bc.
Brought into a Persian civil war by Cyrus the Pretender then abandoned deep in enemy territory upon his death, 10,000 Greeks made an epic fighting withdrawal over a thousand miles back home to Greece.
They would then be known as The Warriors.
As for Sparta wanting to be exhonorated from their past mistakes, that takes deeds opposite not similar to the ones you've perpetrated in the past. If you wanted a fresh start shedding the tarnished name would be the first step, take on the name and you take on the shame coming with it. Not that I have any vested interest in the matter, just filling in for captain Obvious.

You must mean the "royal" you as my vested interest in the matter is about the same as yours. The Warriors was a good movie though. . . . Regards, August |

And as such it's easy to make judgements and pronouncements from the armchair of hearsay.
Anyway, no further justifications are required or forthcoming from me. The people who actually matter already know the answers to the OP. Feel free to continue quoting 300...

Nac I'm dissapointed.
I thought people that don't show their corporation and alliance weren't allowed to post in this forum? Also this could have been asked in game via eve mail or chat ( No offense Danti. but it's true ). From my experience with Sparta they are doing what is best for their alliance and the corporations that belong to it and support them. For people who probably never fought for them, with them, or against them to comment really doesn't make sense, since you're not involved and really don't have a clue on anything that's going on and should be real warriors talking with action rather than being forum warriors and stirring up nonsense.

This kinda goes for the entire COAD forum matey, I see countless of questions answered in a mature, and direct way, questions that could¦ve been easily asked ingame. Good luck on telling everyone to evemail instead of posting on the forums.
As a finishing note, thanks to those who took their time to simply answer my question.

All statements above are true, limited to the history knowledge of people stating them and their flaming desires.
But then again, one should differ between Sparta 300 movie that had been so promoted lately and the EVE Sparta alliance. Nevermind that the movie was a slightly oilish on man bodies. I bet if a spartan saw it, he would have gladly executed a hara-kiri, before knowing its named like this.
Getting back to Eve, SPARTA had re-gained his old built space in Deklein. An alliance rebuilt in a couple of months, garnished with old players and even old enemies like myself, deserves a bit of recognition. Of course, is it up to you to decide.
But surely your views or decisions will not stop us to prevail in our endeavours unless we are killed. And then more.
* This is my personal view and doesnt involve my corp or alliance.
