Just logged into a game and noticed that first of all now modules panel take a huge amount of space, and when you are gaining speed, the speed meter now also barely noticeable since its grey and not blue that i easier to read. And also the speed shown in chunks? Like 920-934-948 and etc....thats really bugging me when your trying to manage speed for a good orbit.
Seriosly, is this gonna get fixed or wer stuck with laggy ui ---

One more thing
If you play in 1024 resolution and use all hislots (8x weapon) the weapon "circle" blocks right side of the screen totally. Problem is: you cant use drones. You need to shrink your overview so you can open drone tabs.

Seems like the UI shows the speed when i gets it from the network... Did the previous one show a speed taking into account the ship stats and the acceleration? Making nice smooth speed showing by calculating it and not only showing the speed from network? -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! The Vexor Navy Issue is much more fun than the Myrmidon !

Yes it did, you could see exact difference between ship with say 3x IStabs and without any of them, or with 5 plates.
Now its gone, i mean cmon! The new speed bar is more 'fancy' but since when EVE is about eye-candy versus functionality and gameplay expirience?

I don't have much of a complaint about the overall appearance of the UI now, but then I'm fortunate enough to be running at a high resolution.
However, the way the speed readout "skips" now is driving me bonkers too. I see my speed jump one way or another and keep thinking I've bumped or been bumped even though I can't see anything. - - - - - - Forum noob, no sig to get nerfed yet. |

I just don't understand why you would go from the top pic to the bottom pic. A major step backwards and distraction for those of us trying to concentrate on whats happening behind the interface. Not only are the buttons bigger they're also mostly opaque to the background, making it feel more tunnel visionish. Also bigger buttons means I can't see as many of them on a single glance to see whats active, nor can I really see at a glance whether ANY of them are active due to the ever present green light.
Not suprisingly I've been having a difficult time adjusting to PvP situations with the new interface and will likely never feel as comfortable as I once was.
Why?

Not to mention that the speed thingy now really cant tell you if your being bumped or just gaining speed in close-combat. ---

Same here - the new module buttons are making it awfully hard to see what's online at a glance, and to time armour reps / cap injectors / mwd pulses. Sometimes if one of my guns doesn't activate due to lag or something, I have to look for some seconds which one is off...
Hell, I even activated and then deactivated the warp scrambler because I though it was off yesterday, while it was, in fact, online. This is sortof problematic for me, and worries me much more then the lagged speed-o-meter (and the other UI changes I actually like). On top of it all, it looks much messier.

Edited by: Saphos on 21/06/2007 10:21:56 I totally agree, the size and spacing of the new icons is far to be big. I run at 1200x800 and in my Tempest with all 8 high-slots filled it clutters up the screen terrible. Also I can't tell if my modules are activated half the time either, which nearly cost me my ship while being pounded on good and proper. For the love of sanity CCP please re-model this and make it more ergonomic.

How can you possibly not see the huge flashing green of the online modules?
I've had absolutely no problems with telling if they're online, size or anything else.
I hope CCP doesn't change it.

One final word concerning your points:
1. I have never had my speedometer lag. Whether using my Retriever or Claw, it rises and falls properly.
2. I dont have a problem with the size of the buttons either. Using my Drake, I have all eight high modules active and I can use all of them and my five drones. But I guess that's thanks to my 16x1200 resolution.
3. How...do tell me HOW can you not see the online modules? They glow like Christmas trees. I cant understand how you glance and cant tell the heat indicator from the bright green glow from the online indicator.
Maybe you guys just need to adapt.

Agreed... I don't understand how anyone can NOT see what's online or offline... This is WAY more pronounced than it used to be. I'm not a fan of the larger size, but it's something I can live with. If your screen is 4:3 format, try running the interface in widescreen mode. You actually see more in space and your interface HUD is below everyhting in the black band area. Makes it even easier to see what's on or off...
My biggest concern is the fact that they haven't fixed some of the bugs that have been around for ages now. For example, here's one that I've had. My Retriever sits half-way below the docking "plane" in the stations... All other ships float above the dock. I submitted TWO bug reports. One said I didn't send enough information to reproduce the error (uh... screenshots not enough?). 'course this took over a month to get that response. I submitted a second report with the same screenshots and received a faster reply (day or two) stating they were aware of the problem and were working on a fix that would be implimented in the future... I think this MAJOR patch would have been the proper place to put that particular fix in place...
Anyway... overall, this was a decent update (feature wise), but I come away feeling deceived by CCP in many ways and wondering/dreading what bugs or breakage will manifest soon (no tm)...
During the Ten Ton Hammer interview (http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/8355), Mangus claimed the update was feature locked:
Originally by: Ten Ton Hammer
Ten Ton Hammer: In your dev logs, youÆve stated that the programming for Revelations 2 is done and finished. When is feature freeze going to happen? Are you still on track for a June release?
Magnus: WeÆve actually already gone into feature freeze. WeÆre on time with everything, and weÆre scheduled to come out at the end of June. Everything looks to be going really well, and thereÆs nothing showing us that weÆll have to delay anything.
Even with claims like this, features were being removed from the update and new items added right up until the deployment! The fact that on deployment day, the client patches are never available until near the end of the deployment means they do not have a final version until they finally deploy... I mean, how many times did they actually test that data migration feature of the new client? Once? How many of you lost all your settings? I'm pretty sure everyone of you did... Basic oversights like that. Bookmarks? Are they truely that dificult to migrate to the new cache location? Overview setting? C'mon... did you modify the working structure of the overview to where the custom settings could not be used anymore? Nothing in the patch notes on those items...
This is a very dangerous way to do development and is going to totally bite them in the arse one of these times...
Maybe I'm just complaining to hear myself complain, but I have concerns for the longevity of EVE considering their behavior.
ok... Flame On...

It does, but the meter arrow moves in 'jumps' thus you sometimes may not see if your being bumped or just gaining speed.
Also, yesterday I also had problem seeing my disruptor on, thanks to the guy who havent tryed to warp out, I activated it only when I already webbed/fired at him.
Oh and btw, the EVE shouldnt requere 26" LCD TV to play it, really. Game should be working perfecrtly fine on 17" desktop monitors. ---

OK, I've got some bad news. I've worked with UI designers, and UI designers, in my experience, do NOT like to be second-guessed. They have a degree in design, they have read all the usability books, they know all about accessibility, you do not, etc. Now, CCP may be different, but the UI designers I have worked with, you're better off spending your time learning to put up with whatever they've come up with rather than trying to get them to change their mind. It doesn't matter if the customer thinks that it isn't intuitive or usable; the designer does, and that's all that matters.
Again, maybe CCP is different, but I've got a feeling that these changes are here to stay.

Can't we have some UI customisation options, then? I want my modules to be solid green (it can blink, but it needs to be solid, i need to know wether it's activated instantly, not look at it for two seconds to determine if it is) when they're on.
When i turn it off, i want it red or something until I can turn it o again, when it goes to plain inactive, so I know, without looking, when I pulsed something when can I pulse it again. Is it so bloody hard to give options for this?
I don't even care about the laggy speed-o-meter, I can live with that, although it definitely shouldn't be laggy.

yes but problem for example with the acceleration meter is pure tactics issue, you cant zoom in everytime i big fight to see if you being bumped.

Well if you look close, the module "buttons" are actually the same size. They are just surrounded by the new heat functionality. Don't think there's much they could have done there.
If you're only running at 1024, then you can shuffle your buttons around. Move your mids to where your lows are(since they're usually passive anyways and passive should be set to hidden)...then bring some of your weapons to the mid locations...you should be good. Example below.

Over half-thousand views and no even small at least ISD remark that this will be looked into?
Its not hard, you can even keep the new ship speed gauge, but all what is been asked for is to remove the lag of the said gauge. Make it go same as the previous one was going, smooth and with noticeable reaction to any bump/drop/increase.
Moreover, it just sometimes makes you think you are having fps drop spike, if thats in combat it only adds to pressure. ---

I have one pretty old compy on which i run two accounts. No i will not upgrade compy thus pay my two months income just to play eve in 1600 or whatever. Not everyone was born rich, sorry - and those who werend need to cope with what they got.
Till rev2 it was not a problem because buttons were smaller. Now it is problem. And as i see its not only problem for me but for lots of people.
One more thing: im not one of those "im cool kid coz i can run 1500FPS in quake 3 and you can only 1450". I know some people **** over thought of having that 1-2 fps more or one step resolution higher but not all.

The problem with telling if a module is online or not is that before the update, the entire button was blinking. Now it's just a narrow band around the edge of the button.
Going 4:3 and setting widescreen is probably the best bet, so you have a solid black background for the buttons, but for Fraps-junkies like me, that is not an option.
To make matters worse, if you've taken heat damage, there's even less blinky area available to tell if the module is active or not.
My suggestion would be to have the center of the button change color to indicate status, and have the heat damage band static (except to indicate heat damage, of course.) That would also give it a bit of contrast, which might make it easier to separate the status color from the background.

On the other hand, moajor amount of people upgrade the system block before upping the fancy stuff like monitor/speakers.
I upgraded my PC and still run 17" CRT. But at least my gfx can run higher resolution so only monitor can limit it.
As for entire resolution thing, game should be run at lowest possible resolution in its game setting wich is 1024x768x16 means, that even at such setting it should be playable. ---

I play at 1280x800 as well. I don't like the new UI changes. At all. Fix the speedometer, it looks unfinished and unpolished, and makes it hard to tell if you're bouncing off of something or actually accelerating. I don't give a toss if the old one extrapolated your actual speed, but it at least showed fluid movement. This new one does not.
Lose the blue bit too, too much added cheese-factor.
Perhaps adding an option in the Options to enable/disable Heat-UI elements would be great for people who aren't going to bother training for Heat anyway...

It's like having a drone-UI when don't using drones. Maybe heat is ok all over (i don't know, can't train the skill yet and did only some testing on SISI), but having so much stuff in the UI related to heat, when not using it, isn't ok.
