Edited by: Sojet on 21/06/2007 17:06:20 Ello there, Ive recently been training for Battlecruisers and can now use the tier 2 BCs for both Amarr and Gallente. Now, I plan on getting both the Harbinger and Myrmidon eventually, but I can only afford one atm (still a relative newb). Now, I would like to buy 1 as soon as possible, and use it to make money to buy a second! My only problem is, as I cannot afford both, Im not sure which to get. So, my question is this: What would raise me more profit? Running L3 missions in a Myrmidon, or ratting in a Harbinger?
(Probably quite relevant, my corp doesnt currently go into 0.0, but the Harbinger looks good enough to ignore that )
EDIT: (Also quite relevant, the drake is both FUGLY and completely unusable from my current skills, so please dont suggest that )

A good rat chain will give more money than L3's and some L4's for the time invested. While missions are "relatively" safe for the sec of system your in, 0.0, your just there.

Go rat in 0.0 with the myrm? =)
Id guess the missioning with the myrm would give more than ratting in lowsec, whatever you rat with. Note however that the myrm is a cheap ship, you could make some kind of disposable setup, and ninja rat in 0.0 with it, if youre careful, very careful.

in good regions ( good security ) with >10 belts you can easily make tripple as much as with lvl 4's when adding the faction/officer stuff and the named items and refining.
i ratted in Immensea for 1 month and made over 4bil in ISK alone. not to count the factionstuff shining on my ships now :).

Rat hunting in 0.0 in my Raven I average about 10 - 15 mil ISK per hour in Bountys and another 5 - 10 in loot. Depending on how good the spawns are on a given night and how much competition I have from other rat hunters, I can average 20 million pretty consistenly.

uhm... if you only rat 15-20mil p/h you are definetely in the wrong region buddy.
i used to get tripple 1.5mil bs spawn and 5mil+ officer spawns everyday ...

I live ina -1.0 system.. and in 4 months never saw an officer spawn. Pretty hard to beleive you could find 1 officer per day unless you had a whole empty region for yourself

I'm pretty sure he means faction spawns (Domination, Dread Gurista, etc...). If he got an officer spawn with only a 5mil bounty, then CCP robbed him blind. _______

ratting in low sec alone is dangerous these days, group of 20 pirate ships are roaming and shooting whatever they can find, shuttles, billboards, frigs, dust.. hell, i encountered 5 carriers and BSs camping on 0.4 gate last week and calling it 1337 pvp u'll lose your ship without making any cash if u rat in low sec if u're in low sec do missions if u're in 0.0 rat

Don't forget in 0.0 you have to take trips back to a station pretty regularly to drop loot/pick up ammo, and also take the long trip back to empire to sell stuff(inc getting it through gate camps etc). For total time invested i think missions are better, they are a constant stream of isk and action based 1-2 jumps from your home station.

Ratting's always been better if you could get it. However if you're losing ships every couple of hours, buying new clones, et cet et cet then missioning, obviously.

I'm in a -.56 or so and usually the first hour i rat hunt i'm taking out the crappy spawns and setting up for the good spawns and for that first BAD hour i make around 25 mil per hour from bounties. The next hour is around 30, just depends on whether the spawns i want spawn or not. But around the third hour, (or first hour if i'm lucky and someone else already set the belts up) I can make around 35 mil an hour from bounties. Most i think was 45 in an hour but there was a Domination Spawn and some of the best tripple spawns. I've been playing for 2.5-3 ish years training nonstop combat related skills though so it doesn't take me very long to clear a belt. Depending on your skills and the security of the system, i could see people making 45-50 mil an hour from bounties in a -1.0 probably

Hitting the scannable encounters is definitely more than both. Got one with 15+ (had to log for the night) bs's total over several waves. ----

Aye, the easiest guristas one will spawn 3x 500k BS spawns 3-4 times, with nice valued BC escorts multiple times. Easy to tank, worth a nice amount, no need to search for spawns and the the best bit: a nice, high chance of a dread guristas spawn at the end. I got a lovely 6mil BS as my plex boss last night, but the loot was crap.

I've had *MUCH* better success with ratting than missioning. I used to make at least 10mil/hr ratting, and I make about 1-2 mil/hr missioning. =(

Liang is one of the voices of reason on these forums. I would say you can expect better that 10 mil/hour isk but even if thats all you get you just made 20 mill isk just by logging in for a few hours a night. In a week go buy your new battle ship, wheee.

What level missions are those Liang, 2? I run lvl 4 mishions in empire and earn better then 10 mil/hour at least, and that doesn't include loot/salvage. ________________________________________ <("<) <('')> (>")>

Edited by: Sokratesz on 22/06/2007 16:06:55 Good 0.0 ratting (thinking of a raven for the kills, alt in hauler for scooping the loot and salvaging) is much, much more profitable than any lvl 3 or 4 mission will ever be.
In droneland, Raven + Hauler scraped in just over 65Mil per hour, even after the zydrine depression (it was over 80 before). Now with the restabilisation fo the zydrine price and the changes in mineral composition of the alloys, it should be back at about 70 - 75Mil.
Sansha's tend to be particularly good, too, since they get nice bounties, are relatively easy to kill and drop valuable mineral-heavy stuff like smartbombs, armor hardeners and nosferatus. Just be sure to collect it all.

L3 is far far below any region 0.0 ratting. Even L4s can rarely catch up with the profits from poor 0.0 regions, and if talking about good 0.0 regions, L4s are far behind in profitability. That's of course assuming you rat safely, with a POS or station in system, which is either a dead-end or just rarely involves any neutrals/reds passing by. If you intend to lose ships in 0.0 while ratting, then you definitely better go with carebear life in highsec.

0.0 Ratting can make you a buttload of ISK.
1) Research; find a 0.0 area with low population, and even lower sec status with 15+ belts.
2) Logistics; if a NPC station isnt near by - Deploy a POS or my favorite, the l00t/munition storage area. Take an industrial out and select a safe spot and anchor secure cans. Fill them with ammo. Then use them to store l00t.
3) Kill Kill Kill; kill the rats. BS spawns should be killed under 2 minutes per BS.
4) Learn to chain & farm; NPC rats are sensitive so measures should be taken to preserve the current NPC population and ensure your ISK :p
