I'm just a little perturbed at the negativity on the forum towards the minute cost that EVE TV is going to be.
All the complainers seem to be in some weird nostalgia zone where people having fun in a crappy studio is better then people having fun in an expensive studio.
And then people are ****ed cause "I'm not paying a $1.50 for the principle of it!"
Followed by the "EVETV is now incorporated and sucks and just wants our money and doesn't care about the public!"
Where the hell are all of these assumptions coming from? Are they actually based on watching an episode? Or is everybody just emo? EVETV should have been giving away "Secondhand Serenade" CDs to all new subscribers or something. bahahhaa (looked the most emo group up on myspace to figure a good one out "

Nope. They are ****ed because n00bs will be comenting all sorts of stuff they have no clue about.

Spending as much time as most of us do actually playing EVE, if I ever feel the need to spend even more time watching a TV show about it I'll just cut to the chase and blow my brains out.

Besides the fact you and then general community have proven themselves patented idiots time and time again... some people more than others...
You apparently missed the part WHY the "noobs" are there. Besides looking pretty.
And we know they're not there just to look pretty. They can't beat Spiral.
And anyway, the first one is free. Try it, it might actually be good. Oh wait, that's too much for most of you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In my experience ppl around here whine about everything. They could wake up tomorrow with a mothership suddenly appearing in their hangar and they would whine about it.
People are just waiting for an opportunity to jump on someone, be it spelling some word wrong or just simply asking a question. It used to be alot more positive attitude on these forums but its seems that the hate from CAOD has spilled over or something
I'm gonna watch the EVE-TV as I have always watched it. It was hilarious then and I'm hoping for it to be fun now.

Well, it is always easier to complain than it is to look for the 'bright side', so to speak. Given the anonymity our virtual characters provide us, we are much more prone to let the bad, bottled-up thoughts out here than in real life.
But yes... I will watch the free trial before I give any feedback on the general quality of the show. I can, however, critisize the 'pay-per-minute' idea. ----

As did I at first because it was misunderstood that they were the new EveTV presenters or something. I have to retract my previous statements and say that this will be a very interesting thing to watch. I'll definitely tune in for the first one if it's free but I'm afraid that's as far as it gets for me unless I'm really impressed. I don't even pay cash for my eve subscription. I can't afford to.

I have no problem with PPV EVE TV. But as a person who doesn't watch TV normally, it'll have to be fairly good to keep me paying. Not trouble with the concept, but basically it'll have to be good enough that I'd rather watch EVE TV than ... play EVE.
I'm not so sure that'll happen.

Honestly, my biggest complaint is that I need to create an account with some 2-bit video website, give yet another unknown outfit my credit card information, and the darn thing is only available streaming!
If I could use the EVE store to buy an episode and download a WMA, I would buy a few episodes just for grins. Make them available on iTunes (Shut up! I actually LIKE iTunes! ) and I'll go for it.

I don't pay for streaming video. Ever. On principle. The day I pay someone for a "watch once" low quality video stream which uses, by and large, exactly the same technology as would be required to simply let me download it is the day the geek inside me dies a painful death.
It would be no more problem for them to distribute it as a download (even DRM protected, if they must) than it would to distribute it by this crappy service they're using.
That said, I'm gonna tune in to the free one (it being free) and see if its any good. --------

No, it sucks because CCP see shiny like "ooh TV" and focus on it rather than on the actual game fundermentals like the UI.

I don't watch TV much for the sake of TV watching. I *idly* watch TV on my tuner in a corner, while playing EVE or bombarding the forums. I barely watched some of the free EVE-TV broadcasts before. I am surely NOT going to PAY to watch EVE-TV.
And this is how most people in here feel about it anyway. It will be a MAJOR (financial) flop. I wonder if they'll even get 1000 paid views per month. No, wait, that's me being extremeley generous.
EVE-TV is just mildly entertaining and somewhat informative. Or, rather said, WAS.
EVE-voice is useful. That's 10$ PER YEAR. EVE-TV will be around 100$ per year.

Yes it's a real shame they haven't forced Xyliana (who i doubt knows much or anything about programming etc) to fix the UI. It would be done in no time, i guess.
I also suspect that you as a senior programmer for a major software house, know already how to solve it in a minute.
Give these people a chance ffs. After all they are trying something new, they might succeed they might not. But at least they should get their chance.

Simple fact is, streaming video sucks and there isn't any content available that I would be willing to pay money for, that is offered as streaming only.
Now, if EVETV were to make an .avi,.mp4, or etc file available, they have my full attention.

It's not about Xyliana. It's about the focus and interests of the management of Eve Online, who have done nothing very little improve the UI from its terrible state, indeed in this patch they've added in cludgy and bulky "heat" when a large proportion of Eve players cannot use it. They're spending their time organising thing far from the core game issues which should be addressed, before they do side projects.
Oh, and designer. And I've posted ideas here before. The main one being "don't try and fix it given your record at this, give the players the tools to do it and then adopt the best of that they make as the default UI"
It's getting to the stage where Eve is downright painful to play for people who have had experience of more recent MMO's. This isn't going to do Eve any good, and shinies like this EveTV are not going to attract new customers.

Well said Maya. I like the idea of Eve TV, was quite addicted to it during the tournament and thought it was a better project then than the horrid thing it's mutating into, but frankly I wouldn't have paid for it then either. Throwing in this wacky "11 million dollar studio" and a cast of actors rather than eve fanatics strikes me as classic Dilbert style management. =P

Well I'll give it a go if it's free, least I can do really. I liked the last alliance tourny commentary, although the wobbly backgrounds and raw presenters was kinda part of it's appeal.
I will say this though, like others I am unlikely to fork out ú1 each time I want to watch, especially for a live stream that I have no garuntee of seeing all of it, how meny times did the picture die on the alliance shows?
I think it's a good idea, but ultimately dosn't have wings.
I would rather see a lot more effort and time go into the website as a whole and an official eve-radio station may be much more feasable than the TV station.

I have 150+ channels on the idiot tube next to me and barely watch it.
I don't even watch Baywatch, what makes you think I'm gonna watch EveTV, much less if it isn't free.
At this point I have *never* watched EveTV, not even the free stuff.
Go ahead, raise it to $1.50, I'm sure you'll get a few bucks from hardcore Eve addicts, at the same time however, you'll lose the opportunity to use EveTV to attract new subscribers.
I know ppl who subscribed to Eve after listening to Eve Radio.
Its the same thing with EveTV.
At some point CCP will come to understand the concept of selling the shaver by giving away razor blades.
You will get more market share by making Eve a cultural phenomenon, rather than trying to nickle and dime the userbase with $1.50 EveTV.

Aka you lose nearly the entire American (north and south america) audience because at earliest, it will be 7 am. Either people are sleeping, or getting ready for work. Either way few will watch here.
Horrible time choice and since no ability to download, there's no way i'm gonna watch it. My sleep is way more valuable than EVE TV.
I doubt it would be worth the 2.25 let alone the hassle of getting up to watch it.
Eve Tv Is Not Live.
Live Eve Tv Is Not.
Not Live Eve Tv Is.
Is Tv Eve Live.. Not!
Its not live, you can watch it anytime you like, any day you like.

i think the new eve tv is very apealing, especially the three female hosts, to almost every male eve player that has learned to type with his left hand while the right one is... ahhhh... buisy :D

Originally by: EVETV Xyliana I think with some of the things in the thread it gets to the point where I say.. do I even correct people when they make up the weirdest stories I ever heard? Where did you hear that CCP bought a studio or we hired Jane Goody as a weather girl, or maybe EVE TV is actually a dodgy fetish amarr roleplay hour. Anyways. I can't clear up the strange false statements of this thread cause I am tweaking some post production. EVE TV did a live dev blog tonight, shows up Saturday at DT (for free) and fly safe.
If it was, I'd watch.
What? Everyone else is thinking it!

Edited by: Disco Flint on 22/06/2007 12:40:37 If some experienced people were the presenters, I'd prolly watch it and pay for it. Ya know, people that put their hearts into EVE for a few years, can tell epic tales good or bad and generally have had their share of all kinds of stuff.
But with these ... well sorry ... paid noobs I wont watch it. Not even the free episode. Not because I hate noobs, no, I like them, try to help them and whatnot. But I also think that noobs say a whole lot of junk and as such the presenters will be saying a whole lot of junk. With limited experience in EVE they'll simply have a very limited perspective.
Also, they're paid to play EVE. In a few months maybe one or two of them will grow to 'live' EVE, if at all. But until then they're all missing the blood sweat and tears that a 'real' EVE player has gone through.

You guys even get golden borders? C'mon now! :(
And I'd totally watch the 'dodgy fetish amarr roleplay hour'.

Originally by: RossP Zoyka I'm just a little perturbed at the negativity on the forum towards the minute cost that EVE TV is going to be.
EVETV should have been giving away "Secondhand Serenade" CDs to all new subscribers or something. bahahhaa (looked the most emo group up on myspace to figure a good one out "
It's not mandatory, is it? Then what's the problem?
I admit that there are other things I'd like to see time and energy focused on (ISK farmers, drone space mining, et cetera ad nauseam), but there's no reason to suppose they're pulling people off the teams that are supposed to look after those things.
PS As far as I am concerned, downtime is just long enough to have a shower, get dressed and get some food. No time for TV!
