HellRaiser - I was about erm 14... could never watch it all haha.. now at 23.. I look back & watched all 8 .. does not seem scary at all.
Nightmare on Elm.. yer I was always scared of these seen 1 when I was like 8 ! & erm critters.. those little black fairball things was scary even younger when seen them.
Event Horizon , amazing movie.. did scare me when 1st saw it.. that bit in the tunnels were she pops up.. & the music / layout of the movie made it more intense.
sadly nothing scares me these days.. the nightmare on elm made me not walk threw my house in the dark for a few years til i had to keep tellin me self if its goin to get me it will & finally got over walkin from my bedroom to the kitchen in the dark ( its a big house.. with lots of corners lol

I'm not a fan of horror movies, and none of them have ever really scared me. I especially hate the modern sadistic torture movies that are so popular now.
The last movie that gave me a nightmare was "The Village," but that wasn't even scary. I just happened to watch it right before I went to bed. I also had a nightmare involving the kids movie "The sandlot" under similar circumstances.

The Descent is probably the scariest movie I can think of at the moment. Me being claustrophobic did not help at all.

When i was little I went on a trip abroad where I watched The Birds for the first time. I didn't speak much English back then, but that was still one scary movie. Later on I watched Alien, but it stopped being scary I watched it over again being older, found it quite nicely done actually. Event Horizon is something I never watched again, so that's my #1.

I thought of #3! The Sixth Sense. There's just something freaky about not knowing that I'm dead that gets to me.
Edit - I'd put Arachnophobia in there, but I've never watched it, because that's just sick and wrong.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

Same here. Loved the part with the creature behind them, had been told about it and it still made me jump when it happened. The Grudge was also another good one, doesn't scare me anymore but it's still freaking creepy.

Terminator 2 scared the living **** out of me when I was a kid... the prospect of being chased by an unstoppable, shapeshifting killing machine, I suppose.
More recently, The Grudge... man, I still have trouble sleeping at night when I start thinking about that one. Too much creepyness condensed. I haven't dared watch the second one.

Since I'm such a wuss, I haven't seen that many movies that have scared me. The horror movies I prefer to watch are not the ones containing torture, keeping-the-audience-on-their-feet-and-suddenly-scaring-them-with-a-brief-flash-of-a-picture-of-a-monster-accompanied-by-an-annoying-scream or anything of that, but the ones which make you think, fear after the movie is over, contemplate. Therefore, I nominate 28 Days Later, because it is a great work of art. I'm waiting to see the sequel when it makes it way to Scandinavia in September, 4 months after its release in the UK and the States >.> ------ --Don't get saucy with me Bernaise!-- |

Legend of Hell House is a fairly unknown movie. However, I watched that in High School and scared the bejeezus outta me. For myself: 1.) Alien (I saw this around 11-12 years old, and I had nightmares for week about a xenomorph chasing me around). 2.) Legend of Hell House 3.) House on Haunted Hill as well (the 2000's remake). The stop-motion camera effects really threw me off. 4.) The Pit and the Pendulum (original Vincent Price).

Yeah, that's why Silkwood terrified me. That's all real stuff that can and has happened; none of this unstoppable psychopathic killer crap that you just sit back and say, "It's just a movie." It's entertaining, but not scary to me.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.
