With all the downtime in the last 30 days, I spend the time I've dedicated to Eve Online to searching gaming review sites for the game I'm going to start playing. So far, the world of PC games is rather dismal at the moment.
So, what games are you guys playing? I'm looking at Starforce: Rogue Universe for my space fix for awhile (single player, but so was Eve for my first 60 days, and lately my corps are VERY inactive due to the server issues).
So, what is your 'workaround' to the Eve servers not running? What do you do with all your downtime (ie, where do you plan to spend your time and monies if you continue to be fed up with CCP drama)?

I currently do meditation when the servers are down. My current mantra is "c'mon ya bastards", seems to work quite well.

I play Half-Life 2 Deathmatch online. Lots of PvP. Actually its only PvP!! 250 or so servers, (not as popular as Counter-Strike Source, but still loads of fun).
BTW - Verizon just gave away 100k bucks to a tourney that took place in California.

Drama he says......
Well, I play this other game 5 days a week for 8 hours a day. It's called "Work, the Evil Reality!" You have to do the biddings of others in order to earn pieces of paper in which you trade for survival items. Takes awhile, but when you get your skills up you get extra papers you can trade for luxury/entertainment items.
Then sometimes on saturday nights I play one called "Girlfriend". This is a FUN game but it is pay-to-play and it can get quite expensive in RL money. Object is simular to the object in that game called "Leisure Suit Larry". Dunno if you know that one, if not look it up. It's a great game but whether you achieve the goal or not, it's still gonna cost you.
Other games at times. "Family" is a good one. "Friends" is always a fun game to play.

Well I let my subscription lapse for now but I play WoW and will start up again probably mid July. I also have Sims2 but not like I fire it up much and cr**k-attack puzzle game(by aluminum angel - didn't realize censor would grab that game name). My alternative usually is to turn on my graphics program and use my tablet and draw, work on one of my domains/websites, creative writing(I do have RPG based fiction and non RPG ones, poetry, etc), do some crafts(I make beaded tapestries, carve, and knit), or do something around the house. If my son is home we play MTG or something on the PS2 which is in my room(he has the XBox in his and he plays different MMORPG's than me)

Well, I do like to fish and hunt, when the seasons are appropriate for the things I pursue, but these days are not the best in my area for the species I prefer to chase.
I like to have a good PC game for the evenings after work and/or weekends when I have some free time. It seems like the last few years I've become more and more disenchanted with the game offerings out there. I'm the kind of guy that gives 2-3 hours to try out a LOT of games throughout the year, and if one hooks me I keep playing.
I only came to eve because a lot of my IRL friends from school actually play this game, so I figured it would be something social I could do with them (as we all mature and our families/lives get in the way, we find it harder and harder to socialize IRL). I'm also competitive and enjoy the idea that PVP losses actually COST the loser in Eve (a concept that is totally lost on most MMO games).
I miss the days of MUDs and even Diablo.
The combination of Eve's endless streams of bugs (which I had started to learn to circumnavigate with a careful dance of 'workarounds') and more lately the seemingly frequent server outages that happen to correspond with my preferred gaming times make me long for another game to distract me from the stresses of job/family/child/etc when my outdoor pursuits aren't available or time doesn't permit those activities (such as 1-2 hour windows of time in the evenings).
I'm taking a long hard look at Huxley and similar FPS games based on Unreal 3 engine. They look sweet and MAYBE I'll find a FPS that holds a candle to the original Unreal Tournament for fun and pvp play.

I miss things like DOOM the original. Remember the Simpson WADS? LOL :-) I also miss playing LORD though there is LOGD.(I used to be a cosysop on a few BBS back in the mid 90's and most the computer games I played date all the way back to early/mid 80's) Some games these days have opted for more eye candy flash than real meat on the bones content. It is good though when you find a game that has achieved a balance.

Oh, I totally agree. As much fun as Eve is, I miss the days of 'Galactic Warzone' and 'TradeWars'. :)

Puzzle Pirates.
Sure, it looks cartoony, but I did a 14 month stretch of WoW, so that really doesn't faze me. The puzzles are fun, blowing stuff up is fun, getting drunk and talking pirate is fun.
I also have quite a few ROMs for old console games. Those are great time-killers when teh interwebs am broked.

been hanging out with friends recently. guitar hero is always a good time and a lot of battle field 2142. I enjoy all the bugs in it, but when a bunch of your corp goes on and has a good time in another game is always fun and a good change every now and then.

sorry to burst your bubble, geometry wars has been out on the 360 since the 360 release, also there has been many ports of it onto pc. and it started out as a much smaller game within project gothem on the xbox. damn i feel sad for knowing that much about the game :( ah well.
no doubt about it its a fun game can take over ur life for a good few hours without you even realising lol :) Linkeh Pooh |
