i started this game on Monday and yesterday i get me a Kestrel, now i have the money to put shield extender and booster on the ship....but i dont have the energy for getting both working.
I talked to some people and they told me the only way to get more power at my stage of the game is to learn the two skills -Energy Grid Upgrade -Energy Management
is this right or is there any other trick to get more power?

If you study Engineering, that increases your power grid by 5% per level. ------------------

Training is must, but have you tried "power diagnostic systems"? they increase power, and give a % boost to shield and cap, the "reactor control unit" give a 10% boost to powergrid
It's great being Amarr isn't it.

he is new, he cant fit a kestrel accordingly as he lacks the skills.
i suggest you try a merlin instead -- Tempus fugit -- |

You can also try a MAP (micro aux power core) that will give you an additional 10-12MW depending on the one you get.
Also there are a lot of times where it's a good idea to run a passive hardner rather then a shields extender as the extender makes you a larger target, but you'll have to do the math and see if the resistance bonus gives you more vs the damage type then having extra shields and a high sig rad.

MAPC requires Energy Grid Upgrades 4.
Honestly, the *BEST* thing you can do is find a friend to run missions with (or do whatever it is you're going to do!) and gank fit your Kestrel (all missiles, BCU's in the lows, small shield extender tank if you can fit it).
Convo me tonight if you're still having problems.

You shouldn't use both a booster and extender for a level 1 kestrel... I would say use extenders.

Energy MANAGEMENT at L4.
That being said, besides MAPC ? Here's some other skills, modules and implants to improve powergrid problems...
Skill, Engineering : +5% grid per level (+25% at L5) Skill, Advanced Weapon Upgrades : -2% grid use of weapons per level (prerequisite is Weapon Upgrades L5)
Skill, Energy Grid Upgrades. Enables use of: Module, Power Diagnostic System : +5% grid (L2 for T1 and variants, L4 for T2), also grants other bonuses Module, Reactor Control Unit : +10% grid for T1 (L2 skill), +15% grid for T2 (L5 skill)
Skill, Jury Rigging . Enables use of: Rig, Ancillary Power Router : +10% grid for T1 (L1 skill), +15% grid for T2 (L4 skill) plus several rigs reducing PG use of various other modules, but you don't really want to use any of them
Skill, Cybernetics. Enables use of: Implant, 'Squire' PGx : +x% ship powergrid (1/3/5, depending on implant tier) Implant, 'Gnome' KUAxxx : -x% grid need for shield upgrades (extenders mostly benefiting from it, Squire is better anyway) and again, not sure if there's other implants for PG, but the 'Squire' beats them all hands down

Damn Akita, you sure have an axe to grind with someone who's away from Eve and can't verify things off the top of their head. The OP already said that it was outside their skill training desires for the moment.
You'd be alot happier with yourself if you stopped flaming everyone that's proven you wrong in threads before.

Hahaha... that was so funny .. you were saying "it'd be funny if..." Man, prophetic words. I still get a kick out of it. I told my boss at work (he plays Eve too) and he laughed pretty good about it. ;-)

Generally I don't even pay attention much who posted something, but rather what they posted. I'm sorry if it seems like a "flame" to you, it's merely a correction of an incorrect statement. Then I proceeded to list, to the best of my knowledge, all possible "grid improvement" skills/modules/implants.
Yup, I surely do have an axe to grind [/sarcasm] There were no offensive words added or anything like that which would even remotely qualify as a "flame"... seems to me like you're just being over-sensitive because of "past forum disagreements", that's all. Trust me, I don't even feel the need to "come after you" even if you were hanging just outside my HQ in a pod and our corps were at war. It's nothing personal.
