So how many of you play with sound? Got my shiney SB X-Fi, but I still have all sound disabled in Eve...
Perhaps I should try it again seen as it got a mention in the patch notes. ----------

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 29/06/2007 15:25:37 About dual core CPU's ?
Does EVE profit from it, if only one client is running, nothing else ? I thought EVE is single threaded, so I would assume that one core is doing all the work and the other one is just idling most of the time.
As I see it, I have to upgrade my system sooner or later, don't know the CPU prices at the moment, but dual cores with the same X-rating tend to run at lower MHz and be more expensive. So if EVE can only utilize one core, when I need that power, like in a fleet battle with only one account, then the question is, if it would make sense for me to buy a dual core. ___________ I've never been so serious as I am now. No, really. |

YES Eve balances across CPU's alot better than I did.
That aside you can always manualy balnce affinity across the cores (have been able to since NT4 - maybe 3.51 - while back).
Remember even if eve (and its not) was a single thread then the graphics drivers and all the wonderful windows API's are threaded, so the cores do get used.
Think of 2 cores like having a country lane with overtaking room to overtake that tracter instead of being limited to the slowest road hogging vechile. It helps.
Now as for price, I strongly reccomend a good motherboard and look at the cpu's and get something which is good value at the time and not the best. You can always pretty much buy 2nd best and then 6 moths later buy what was the best for the price you saved in the first place and then some.
A E6600 is more than enough, also overclocks nicely. I chose that CPU as was good price point at the time for me and was the larger cache model instead of going downscale.
Good memory and discs also help. I swear by having a disc dedicated to swap and temp/scratch file space - but thats my old school UNIX showing thru.
That all said - seriously dont go out and buy a new PC just because fleet battles lag for you, you will not be happy when you see that your PC wasn't as much of a problem after all.
