Edited by: Kabajashi San on 05/07/2007 16:17:52 You speak with a cunning tongue, Amira, yet you are dissecting what is to be united. What it is the freedom of mind if you don't have the freedom of act to live accordingly? What is the freedom of act when the freedom of information is denied and thus decisions are being made on false ground? There are more ways to bind someone in slavery than chaining him to the ground.

Edited by: Jorin BladeSire on 05/07/2007 20:46:40 And Derrick makes an appearance on the Summit forums... I will admit that I am pleased that my words have moved you, my friend. That being said, I hope that this response will affect others as it has come to affect you.
Ladies and Gentlemen of Eve, there is something that we are forgetting.
Before I continue, let me state for the record that I am Matari, that I have no love of the Amarrians or their blind practices, that I want nothing more than the freedom of our people.
But we stand here, bickering and talking in circles about our vague conceptions of freedom, and I believe that we are overlooking something.
The Ammatar exist, do they not? What are they? They are a breed of Minmatar who follow the Amarrian religious practices and believe in the Amarrian god (I will remind you that the first Ammatar were not slaves).
Now, does this god exist? We cannot say for sure - but the Ammatar believe in this god! And if they exist with this belief, if they feel their lives should serve this deity that has enslaved our people, so be it! Let them have their faith, just as you would ask the Amarrians to let us have ours!
Criticize not the Amarrians for freeing these Minmatar - they are doing what they believe is good and right according to their faith, and, in truth, they are releasing slaves, which is a great boon, isn't it? We must not attack these people for freeing our brothers and sisters, no matter what we may think of their methods. What we must attack is the conception that their faith is what is evil! It is not their god that has created this slavery - if we approach their god as though we Minmatar have escaped him, as opposed to fallible human slavers, then we act out of fear and ignorance. We must remember that even if we disagree with their methods, two wrongs do not make a right.
Look at the predicament we create when we criticize the Ammatar for adhering to the Amarrian faith - suddenly, you either believe in the Amarrian God and are a race traitor, or you are a heathen a must be enslaved. Where is the compassion? In doing this we become just as intolerant and insufferable as those we have labeled our enemies! We must call for an end to this duality! We can co-exist peacefully, and the key to this is to be open and accepting of everyone - it is not easy to sit and watch your brothers and sisters become enslaved, but we must keep level heads and continue discussion!
Two pilots stand, each with the other locked, poised to fire. Each calls for the other to break their lock. One pilot must break the target lock first, but neither wishes to do so. Would you not feel better if the other pilot were to break his or her lock first?
And this is how we must approach this problem - let us remove the Amarrians from the sights of our turrets and welcome them and their faith.
I believe firmly that if we display compassion, we shall receive it in return. After all, though we may be Minmatar and they may be Amarrian, we are all human.
Archbishop and PIE Inc., I salute you for your efforts, and offer you a place at my table whenever you would like - perhaps together we can come to a mutual and newfound understanding of one another and our respective beliefs.

It isn't only about freedom. It's about freedom on our terms. Not Amarr's.
And as far as the first Ammatar go? They were the basest of traitors. Their tribe is cast to the winds. Perhaps one day they will learn the lesson of humility as did my tribe. Until then, I cannot see them as anything other than lost, misguided kin at best. Mostly though, I see the brainwashed tools of Amarr, clapping their once-kin in chains in a shameful imitation of the Amarr consumption of worlds.

Exactly.
It certainly has nothing to do with the wishes of the one being "freed." (And even less so for the ones being killed while being freed)
Terrorists are a quite selfish breed of warmonger, really.
The man is freeing slaves, exactly what you always demand, and yet because its not on your terms you don't accept that.

Men who's minds have been wrecked by religious brainwashing, mind control implants, Vitoc, and simpler forms of brutality are hardly what I'd call free men. They definitely aren't free Matari. The reason we demand freedom on our terms isn't selfishness. It's simple survival. Your terms are the annihilation of our culture through the imposition of your own, implemented by the most sadistic methods known. Methods that include the foul "Breeding Facilities" as well as the techniques I mentioned before.
To call those Ammatar free men is a direct slap in the face to all Matari, and those who fight for the freedom of Humanity.

And your methods involve killing more slaves than you free. And then, if the hostile responce in this thread is any indication, killing any slaves that dont want to be free.
If you want to work for "freedom", there are far more effective ways than attacking Amarr directly.
But you know that. Seeing Amarr burn is more important to you than freeing slaves.

So if we were to bag one of you, inject him with a poison and addict him to the antidote, and beat the tar out of him every time he mentions "God" or "Service" or "The Empire", and tell him he will find true salvation and enlightenment (and an end to all the beatings) when he truly embraces freedom...
That would be OK with you, would it? He'd be "choosing" freedom, by your standard.
That isn't a threat, by the way. It's your methods I spit upon, not just your choice in targets.

Do you really think that is his methodology?
I doubt it. He is no fool after all.
Any violence done by the SPCS is more likely to be psychological and spiritual rather than physical. The pity of it is that, yes, they probably do believe that it is being done for a good and noble reason.
This makes what they do understandable. It does not excuse it.
I am, personally, quite happy for the Empire to exist (without it's slaves), and for it's servants to try and persuade others to join it. I am even happy for them to attempt to convert others to their view of the divine. I can only feel sorrow that the Amarrian faithful have so little confidence in their faith, it's appeal to the rational mind, or the power of their god, that the only way they can see to increase their number is to brainwash largely helpless vistims into following it.
True faith converts by example and reasoned persuasion, never by force. Regards,

Many of you seem to forget that lesser races were born to serve. While I admire with all of my heart the slaves who have dared to embrace the Lord thy God and the glory of the Empire, one should not look up to a slave.
Cruelty or not, a slave is submitted to the will of their master, and is a proper and correct object of trade and work. If their Master so deems correct to grant them death, then they die happilly, having served their sole purpose in life, one more pure than any Minmatar free life could ever grant them.
To my brethren, I say lower yourself not to arguement with these simplistic animals. To the "free" Matari who claim purity of purpose, I say this :

Hey, Pater is the one that made the allegation, now he has to prove it or shove off. I could point out that the Amarr Empire has been in a state of steady decline since the battle of VakÆAtioth and that the Empire's stubborn adherence to slavery has played no small role in that, but he's the one going around making vaguely worded accusations, the burden of proof is on Pater. ----------------------------- Naturally my views are my own as I'm not my alliance's spokesman, ect.

Lets be honest here: Information isn't really free anywhere, and certainly not on the public media streams of the Empire, the Republic, the State or the Federation. Sure you can say that anybody is free to broadcast good things about the Empire in the Republic, but who would listen. Can a society where prominent figures shout "Death to slavery, death to the slavers" every day considered free of prejudice? Moving to the altar in front Archbishop removed his mitar and handed it to a young Priest then moved to the center and opened the Book of Scriptures. Several other Priests stood at each side of him holding their own copies of the Book of Scriptures.
He began to read.
Reading from the Book of Scriptures
"Our Lord visited his flock and saw that all was not good. Blasphemy and heresy ruled the land. The Lord punished the sinners and drowned them in their own blood. But the people of Amarr lived righteously and in fear of God. Thus they were saved and became God's chosen one."
He began to preach.
"The Ammar became the chosen of God as proven by the holy scriptures. A life of righteousness and fear of God gave the Ammar the blessings of the Lord and the ability to work in His name to bring forth the light of Enlightenment to those who are unworthy."
He paused for a moment then continued.
"Some of those unworthy are the Ni-Kunni like myself who live the sin of not being True Amarr. Yet as I, a man born the son of a slave, can rise above my sin and embrace God so can all on their own level".
The assembled faithful nodded and a low mummer of "yes" rang out from the throng.
"The Ammatar have earned their place in Gods kingdom. Born Minmatar, often raised in sin and violence, these brave and loyal individuals work to cast aside the sin of their birth and work tirelessly to embrace the word of God. For this they have earned the respect of us all. Ammatar please stand."
The Ammatar in the Chapel stood silently as he continued.
"Today your ranks will grow. Today 162 former slaves of Amarr who have worked tirelessly to embrace God and Empire will join your ranks. Today in this Ceremony of Enlightenment we shall lead them into a new stage of their lives."
The Ammatar sat and watched as Archbishop raised both his hands to the sky. The Minmatar slaves stood at attention, each holding a handwritten book of religious scriptures each had written with their own hand.

"Now it is time to recognize the journey you have taken and join in celebration as you cross over to become Ammatar."
Archbishop stood down from the Altar and moved to a large open area between the altar and the first row. Two large candles glowed and a large golden cross in the background reflected the light onto him. He moved his arms in a gesture of welcome and said "Come forth".
The Ammatar all moved to surround him as he raised his hands and smiled.
Archbishop surrounded by Minmatar slaves who are minutes from becoming free Ammatar
The assembled also rose and bowed their heads as Archbishop began to pray.
"Lord of Amarr, righteous ruler of all and loving master of the Ammar and Ammatar please hear our prayer".
From the crowd cries of "hear us God" and "Lord bless us" rang out from the other Ammatar who were most affected by this ceremony.
"Lord today we recognize the sin of all men not born True Amarr. We also recognize the opportunity those of us born with sin have in an Empire of faith in service to a truly compassionate God. Lord today we bring forth 162 Minmatar in humility and service to receive your blessings and elevate themselves to the ranks of the Ammatar".
Several of the Minmatar slaves wept openly, many clutched their religious scripture books while others looked skyward begging God for His blessing. The emotion of the event was unlike anything seen normally in the stoic Amarr Empire.
"Lord these 162 souls, born of sin as Minmatar, come to You today pledging their lives and their works to Your glory. Today they move beyond the need for self and will embrace the realm of we that those in service to God live in. Today they become Enlightened."
The Minmatar were seconds away from freedom and becoming Enlightened. In the pews the noise grew to a thunderous crescendo and outside the crowd listening on speakers and watching on giant holoscreens roared in approval.
"Today my Lord God we welcome these humble servants into Your realm as Ammatar. Today they join the ranks of free men and women who have found You and will work for Your glory....... Amen!"
Cries of Amen rose from everywhere as the Minmatar slaves looked on quietly.
"You are free".
Three simple words, after all the ceremony and pagentry those three simple words are all it took, they were now Ammatar.
Moving into the crowd of the newly Enlghtened the Lord Archbishop stood as each passed in procession. Bowing each recieved a golden Amarr coin with the seal of KorAzor on one side and a cross with the Amarr logo on the other. The Minmatar wept openly while others read Scriptures aloud. Outside the Chapel in the courtyard the air of celebration overcame all and they would stay into the night.
After the last Ammatar Enlghtened had received a golden coin and a personal blessing from Archbishop he moved to a side room. Sitting quietly he contemplated next years Ceremony and vowed to work to release ten times the number of slaves he had this year. While having slaves and working for Enlightenment was a noble goal and one he would not abandon the true success would be the elimination of all his slave facilities because all Minmatar became Enlightened. That would be a day to truly celebrate.
Walking out after dark escorted by his marines the Lord Archbishop took one last look at the spire of the Cathedral of Hope and the full moon behind it. Indeed this was a place of hope for all Minmatar. It was well named.
