Ok all, lets get it over with, which is THE BEST OVERALL Minmatar battleship for running missions? Please post your level 4 ships and ideas for best fit.
I wont be flying Caldari Ravens or anything else, strictly Minmatar and so would like to hear from you all as far as your personal experiences with ships/load-outs (including rigs) and T2 mods at BEST, no crazy bazillion isk mods here that cost more than the ship. Cheers.

yea, brobably the typhoon.
but i prefer the maelstrom...
just dont like missiles, so the maels 8 turrets and insane shield boost is nice.
oh, and i also prefer shieldtanks

Ships have crews, most pod controlled frigates do not, above that they have crews of varying sizes. Hope that helps.

As your first respondent said - Typhoon. My fit is also in the other thread but there a few decnt ones.
Reasons:
Decent if not exceptional firepower. Can fit 4 missiles with bonuses which, for missions, are better than guns. Good dronebay, enough for a heavy group and a lights/medium one to take out the samll stuff. Good mids/lows allows for nice tank and cap support in the mids.
Not to mention it is the cheapest - even with 3 useful rigs and full t2/best named fitting it costs about the same as an unfitted, unrigged Maelstrom.
So decent firepower including missiles, nice drones and the ability to fit a sustainable, rig improved LAR2 tank. It might even be possibe to fit a sustainable LAR2+MAR2 tank - I am fairly close to this but no quite there if I leave off the AB and fit 4 euctectis in the mids.

I can sustain a LAR2 + MAR2 tank on my Phoon but not while the AB is running.
I have the option of running one of the following two constantly:
LAR2 + AB
or
LAR2 + MAR2
I could possibly run all three if I went with 3 x CCC's and Faction Cap Rechargers/Relay and did some more training on the AB skills.
I usually just run LAR2 + AB til I get in range then switch to the MAR2 and regen any armour thats been whittled away while I was getting range.
I've tried the Mael in PvE and its just not as effective IMHO. The fact you are going to be hard pushed to hit anything under a BC with 1200-1400 arty, added to the fact you have a small drone bay, and the ship is really slow just don't make it a good mission ship.
The Phoon on the other hand is fast, can use Torps/Cruise (which are great for PvE), abilty to field a full set of heavy drones, mount a dual repper tank, and has AC's/arty as well for extra DPS.
Furthermore as Luke says its Cheap as Chips.

I like the typhoon myself. Even with pure T1 mods I can do most L4s solo and when I have T2 fit tank ..its sweet.
I fit a cap booster though because often my mission runner ends up in pvp situations do to location and the fact im too lazy to swap ships.
I want a faction typhoon too...please?
Rupture too. --------------------------------------------------- Scordite -Who was it that said that flying minmatar is kinda like going down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an uzi? |

I have ran LVL4s with both the Maelstrom and a Phoon. Both work but take and awful long time compared to my usual command ship.
For Phoon i used
4 x 650 t2 or 1200 t2 4 x Cruise 4 Cap Recharger T2 (sometimes an AB in one of the slots)
1 x LAR 2-4 x Hardeners 1-3 x Gyros 1 x BCU 1 x RCU depending on Guns (if i remember right)
3 x Armor rigs
This didn't work that well, guns wont hit cruisers too well nor do cruise missiles. OK for BS heavy Missions. Needs web and/or target painter. 3 x CCC might be a better idea to be able to runs rep constantly if mids are needed for EW.
Maelstrom
8 x 1400 T2 (some say 1200 T2 are better due to ease of fitting and better tracking)
1 x XL t2 Booster 1 x T2 Boost amp 1-4 x T2 Hardeners 0-3 T2 Tracking Comps 0-1 SEnsor Booster (Sometimes a sensor booster is good for non deadspace missions where you can snipe).
1 x Co-pro 1 x Power Diag T2 3 x Gyro T2
2 x CCC 1 x Shield EM rig thingy (i run mostly sansha missions)
Xl Booster wont run forever, i am sure it is possible to get XL booster to run constant with maybe another CCC or a CPR in low but i prefer just to go for more damage and better tracking. It can be dropped for a large T2 booster that CAN be run 24/7 and means you can drop the Co-pro and Power Diag for 2 tracking enhancers in low. Then drop one of the tracking comps for an Invul or another boost amp.
Overall minnie BS suck for missions. Train for a command ship ASAP.
If you want to buy a Maelstrom with the above setup let me know lol.

Can't say I agree with that at all. True they arn't as fast as a Raven, but the Phoon isn't miles behind either.
Taking it can mount 4 Torp launchers thats 66% of a Ravens firepower straight off, then you have 4 AC's and 5 Heavy drones as well... so the DPS isn't that far off a Raven with a couple of BCS's, the only thing that slows you down is getting into Drone and AC range.

The time it takes to get into drones and AC range is kinda the problem, time is isk and moving 40-50 km to shoot something is kinda boring. Damage types changing with range is sh1tty too. ----------------------------------------------------

I use the Maelstrom with autocannons and falloff rigs. Gives me much higher damage than artillery out to 40 km, and the Maelstrom is a mean tanker.
The only downside is its slower speed and the fact that I easily eat up 8000 rounds of Barrage during a single mission. Thats 4-5 mill just for the ammo. ---

... but sadly, typhoon's drones outdamage it.
Relayshieldtank is good in pvp and maybe some areas where you need insane permatank, but for lvl4, imo you are better with fitting pdus & gyros.
I'd still take machariel for lvl4 -------- I tanked D2 capital fleet and all I got was truncated Erebus mail.

Overall - Phoon with autocannons, missiles and drones...
You have 2 weapon systems that allows any damage type from 0km to drone control range which is around 45km, then you have 3rd weapon system that works from 2km to 20km and still has some option what it comes to damage types. Even without damagemods it has decent dps with t1 ammo and t2 drones. Its fast as default and cheap even after rigged like someone mentioned already and has slots for armortanking.
Only downsides I can come up are required skills, specially for t2 godlyness. By the time you can fly t2 Phoon your not far from being able to fly t2 fitted Raven and Domi that are also good pve ships. Its bit short of PG for ideal fits so you have do some compromise (which ship isnt) and it should have armor and shield hp's swapped around. Also any damagemod is only going to boost 1/3 weaponsystems.
Now if you want to snipe instead Maelstrom might be good pick and just for showing off go for Machariel

Machariel (with 1200mm), then Maelstrom (with 1200mm), then Typhoon (Torps + ACs).
If your shield tanking skills suck, don't use a Maelstrom.

I mission in my shield tanking Tempestine.
HI - 6 x 1400 II's, Salvager, Tractor beam MED - Large SB II, 2 x Mission Hardeners II, Shield Booster Amp II, AB or a 3rd Hardener LOW - 3 x Gyrostab II's, 2 x PDS II, Tracking Enhancer or a 3rd PDS RIG: 2 x Capacitor Control Circuit I, 1 x anything DRONE: 7 x Med II's
Cost: ~210 mil (~50 mil for the 2 cap rigs)
This one need good skills to fit. If your not into salvaging replace Salvager and tractor beam with 2 missile launchers. Got some spare money? Fit a faction shield booster.
