Font fix worked for me too. I'm kinda surprised this have not been patched yet. It's actually something CCP looses money on, and therefore should be set as a priority.

The only way for me to get rid of this was installing MS Office.

Just adding another confirmation that installing Office fixes it......
Sounds like if it's just the fonts, it shouldn't be that hard to patch in, hope they do it soon. I seriously thought about dual booting XP before I found this thread.

Wish they would fix this seeing none of theese fixes work for some people and they have yet to responded to support mails or petitions.

I'm having the same problem. Start EVE, get the splash screen then just goes black and sits there. I was on an older build, haven't played for a few months and I just installed the latest patch. I have the arialuni.ttf font installed so this isn't the issue for me. Anyone know if this has been fixed?

Originally by: John Wainwright I did figure it out. Once the "Entering Station" bar filled up, I pressed Escape twice. First time closed it, second time opened the main menu. Went to the generic tab, unticked "Load Station Environment" and as soon as I closed the menu everything was fine.
Yepp ! That's it - at least for me. Thanks !

I'm also having the same problem. I've tried all the recommendations.
The only thing that has changed on my system in the last 24 hours is uninstall of my old email client Eudora (been using since the early 90's but since they stopped development and mozilla is taking over project .. ) installed Mozilla Thunderbird.
When I try the '/end /LUA:OFF' fix I can actually see the login window. I can type my password but all other buttons don't do anything. Also when I tried to close the window it asked me if I was sure I wanted to exit. Clicking yes/no or checking the box 'don't ask me this again' don't work!
I don't know what else I can try... There is no way I will reinstall XP and Vista is a bloated eye-candy memory / CPU vampire (trying to be polite) .. so if I don't get a fix soon, I will stop playing.

Possible Fix for some, I have an ATI AGP Radeon X1950 running in WinXPpro 32bit The black screen started after I went from Catalyst 7.8 to 7.9 A further update to the QuakeWars hotfix also resulted in the black screen. Removing 7.9 and reinstalling 7.8 fixed the issue.
Also of note is that; all other games were fine. there was no possible way to exit the black screen, task manager would stay in the back ground. I had to reset the pc each time. all other methods failed me.
Hope that helps.

im having a weird problem with my laptop since the patch where linux users started to complain about not being able to play eve anymore.
a few seconds after the splash screen the client starts drawing strange boxes and diagonals in every box. this happens on every screen (login and ingame).
i'm using ati fireGL5000 (mobility) with the latest drivers, also tried previous versions and even the omega build for ati. also tried reinstall windows and downloaded the new eve-client (full install)
used to run 2 clients at the same time without any problems.
any suggestions on resolving this issue are welcome.

I'm getting this problem on a clean XP SP2 install. The only things I have installed are video drivers for an ATI 9550, AVG Anti-virus, and Eve build 36800. I've tried both w/ and w/o my old cache, and w/ w/o the /end /LUA:OFF tag and still have the same problem.
I have filed a bug report #44030 and included both a DxDiag.txt and a log server file Splash_hang.lbw.

***UPDATE***
I had disabled my internal sound card on my laptop while at work. I use a creative PCMCIA card from time to time. After re-enabling internal soundcard the client is working again. I used to get a message saying that my soundcard was disabled in the past. The client would still function however. Something must have changed recently.
Maye this is the problem I'm having since I have no sound card at all. Altho before I did the clean install I had no sound card and no problems.

After trying everything in this thread to no effect I have finally gotten eve to run by adding audio=0 to the pref.ini file in the cache folder. From the looks of it Eve is having some kinda issue with there not being a sound card installed.
Hope this helps those that are still unable to play since it looks like our problem is falling on deaf ears at CCP.

Edited by: Bitter Angus on 26/09/2007 21:15:23 I'm also having the black screen after the first splash screen, but today I did install another graphics card, so when I run SLI I get the black screen and when I disable it I can log in fine, so it's not a cache or font problem,
any ideas?
I forgot to add I'm running Vista 32bit

I'm amazed, simply amazed. I do not, nor have ever installed MS-Office, and I have never connected to sisi, never been to any server but Tranquility, am not on Windows 64-bit Vista.....let's see, have I missed anything?
Ok, now, CCP, you make a wonderful game, there's your kudo - it was irresponsible of someone to make an assumption that everyone on the planet loading up EVE would have a font only avaialable in MS-Office, or by specifically downloading said font from the internet, thank goodness it is avaialable without that.
For now, my Black Screen of Doom has been solved. but sadly, not by CCP.
