It's been another busy week in the world of EVE and EVE TV has been out in force to at least capture some of it. Host spiralJunkie has a special report from the Game07 event in Manchester where he met up with Calmdown, Stavros and a very special lady with a Light Saber(tm). Discussion here
In the studio Ifni and Fajung talk about the big news stories, about the trials and tribulations of being PVP experts and there are details on how you can help EVE TV as we prepare for the Fourth PvP Tournament in Iceland. Discussion here
Elsewhere we have a report on CCP's 10th Birthday Party, went out on a class with EVE University, and a profile of what has become one of the most popular battleships in EVE, the Caldari Rokh.
As a whole the EVE TV Team has taken advantage of the fact that we ran a pilot which provided a dry run and from a technical point of view we are hope everyone sees that it goes up from here.
Lastly there is a FAQ Thread on the forums to help with any questions. Feel free to use this thread for technical and content discussions and feedback. Next week as have Hardin, Rodj and Midnighter are in the studio, we have Dev interviews, resident test flight and expert Farjung will be joining us as well as Fangtooth Kasumi to talk about the first view of the New Player Experiment.

Edited by: QwaarJet on 30/06/2007 12:00:56 Just finished watching, here's my thoughts.
First part was the wooden style of presenting that I hated from the first show. The BBC News 24 style news coverage doesn't work. Also, your news failed to cover the recent battles in Tenal. I'm also yet to be convinced by StevieSg.
Second part was much better with actual experts (gosh!) talking without a script and in a much more relaxed manner. It was nice talking about the tournament, although I wish some actual details of signups etc would have been mentioned.
I'll post more thoughts later, but overall an improved show on the first one, but still lacking in simliar areas.

Tbh much better and much more watchable, some of the news was old yeah, but last week you were critisied for not mentioning things... you can't please all the people all the time. Even though I know "forum news" it was nice to see it in the EVETV format.
I actually enjoyed that show, felt a lot more eve'ish and a lot more natural, I guess people are settling in :)
One question though, the "new player experence" wasn't mentioned at all, I still have no idea what it is other than the fact I have heard it mentioned a few time. It sounds like a nice catchphrase, but I am left clueless despite reading the forums and watching two shows now what it is meant to be, what it is meant to achive and why the "new players" get developer help/advice (if I remember the first show correctly, as well as the tutuorial taking a week) etc... and its something I am really trying to get my head around
But other than my general confusing regarding it, good job :)

Edited by: Treenara Mazouk on 30/06/2007 12:22:07 Episode 2 shows great potential for EVE TV, imho. This week's show was much more professional looking - informative, funny at times (love those smiles) an serious when needed.
The reports are of better quality, and informative.
Some subjects to consider for your next shows: - EVE Mobile (whatever happened?) - EVE RPG - EVE Novels (Tony where's the book?) - Cover subjects such as Trade & Commerce, Manufacturing, and other non-PVP/PVE aspects of EVE - EVE and DirectX 10 - EVE China (how are they doing?) - EVE Gatherings around the world (Iceland and the UK aren't the only 2 country ya know!! )
All in all, a great episode which promises lots more for the future!

much, much better than last time. The presenters were much more natural and the whole thing seemed more polished.
from a technical point of view, the streaming was again fine. I watched @ 1000k with no problems.

Review as I go -
The report about **** and Roadkill (???) was a train wreck of reporting. There was barely anything in that report that explains what has been going on in the North. Delivery of the info was well done, but it was extremely lacking in (accurate) content.
Interesting that the report on Shrike's titan loss did not include the info that he's back in another one.
CCG - Does Stavros even play anymore? Sooo... there's a red head with demon wings and a lightsaber... okaaay....
TenTonHammer Report - BoB is obviously cheating. We should all cancel our accounts.
Celedric's Blog - Interesting. Very different.
EVE Uni - This guy's southern accent sounds like the one I used to have. Nice little blub tho for EVE-U.
CCP 10th Birthday - By far the best piece so far. Very interesting.
Tourney - Farjung STILL needs a haircut. This was a good segment, but a bit too long IMO.
Caldari BS Thingie - Nice visuals. Interesting various ideas presented.
The talking back and forth is well filmed and paced.
Overall a better episode than the first one but that's to be expected. :)

First news part - well events where mentioned even trough EVE official news service - so old news. Still I think somekind of news block should remain. Unique direct quotes from players involved made it watchable.
Please more discussions with experts! That was the best part of this show IMHO.
Good work however, looking forward for next shows.

Thank you guys so much for the feedback and please know we are working on taking so many of them on board.
Here are a few responsesą
The more relaxed feelą next week we will be taking this on board and find a happy medium. More guests on set and having open discussions on politics and news.
The first introduction of the New Player Experience is next week. There will be a opening segment with the players involved as well as having Fangtooth Kasumi in the studio.
Farjung will be joining us as a residential expert on EVE TV and feel free to post him some questions.
Thank you to Treenara Mazouk for the topic suggestions. The stories we research and present are hopefully topics that players want to know about.. so keep the suggestions coming everyone.
Nyack, EVE TV will most likely be at the BOB BBQ and other upcoming meets, as well as a BBQ hosted (need to ask my parents, or well warn them that I am bringing 40+ eve players over) by myself on the East Coast.

Agreed, their was a vast improvement in not only the quality of the editing, but also the confidence of the reporters which made for a more enjoyable show. Good work
My only gripe im sorry to say is still with the quality of the Jalipo player, Ive just watched the show and seemed to have alot of problems with the viewer constantly buffering and having to restart it due to errors because it couldn't find the feed.
As I said though, an outstanding imnprovement and if you can sort out the jalipo player your onto a winner

Hmmm... okay... where to start...
Massive... and I mean MASSIVE improvement over the first episode.
The looking at the script on the desk problem seems sorted, and it seems like people have relaxed a lot more on set. I don't know whether you guys got an teleprompter or whatever, but people's focus seems a lot more on the camera and less on the desk. Whatever was done has worked very well.
That said though, the set still needs sorting, and the sofa and table need to come back
The dialogue at times still seems a little forced, but it's a massive improvement over the first episode and flows a lot more smoothly. It looks like people are settling into their roles a lot more, and the nervousness is definatley starting to vanish.
The CCG feature was well presented, I personally liked the fact you left the balls up with Spiral wiping the pillar our in the final cut, it adds a lot of character to the show, there should be a lot more of this. It was nice also to see people being interviewed with a bit more structure.
The profile on the Rokh was well edited and had some awesome fraps to back up the audio. The fleet shots of the long range Rokhs were awesome, moar of this please. (I'm sure loxy is the one behind this )
The report on the article regarding CCP and Goonswarm was intersting, although it would have been better if it were padded out with a few quotes from what was posted by both sides to enforce the opinions a bit more firmly.
The tenth anniversary coverage was kick ass, it's always good to see some features from CCP, and to hear their thoughts on where Eve should be going. It's good also to get opinions from Kieron once in a while. Personally I'd like to see more of him on Eve-TV with regards to Dev-Playerbase relations after what's happened in the past.
The report about the north was pretty sketchy, but it was short and brief enough not to afford a lot of detail. Rather just these guys are fighting here, because of this, and are shooting eachother.
The mining feature with regards to Eve-Uni is a good thing, more of this is needed to show the rookie players of Eve who are watching where they can go for help and advice.
The feature on the upcoming tournament was well done, but I think it would have had more weight if LeMonde or another of the CCP organisers were there to discuss the baselines for rules and entry requirements. It did seem to take up a large chunk of the show, and people not interested in it may have had trouble concertrating on the rest of the show, so being the main feature it might pay to split future coverage that length up with other articles to pace the show a little better.
The Pandemic Legion pilot's blog was a nice addition, and brings a little more of the community spirit into the limelight. It wasn't necessarily needed in the show, but was added and gave a bit of a lift to be honest. It'd be nice to see more of this kind of stuff from community members.
Overall? An immense improvement given there's only been 7 days since the launch. The dialogue just needs to flow that little better at time and it will be spot on.
As for the rest, the nervousness seems to have decreased massively and people look a lot more comfortable, however I still say ditch the set and go back to the Real Eve-TV set.
As for a score out of 10?
10/10 for advertisement (as always, it's everywhere) 10/10 for effort (A lot has gone into realising the community feedback) 8/10 for editing (Some great ingame footage and nicely edited features) 7/10 for sound (still some slight volume issues in places between cuts) 7/10 for content (A bit sketchy in a couple of places but otherwise great) 8/10 for presentation (Enormous improvement from the last Epsiode)
Oh and by the way, free Stevie's hair. It looked way better in the first Episode tbh.

I can't get past the interview with Jason at CCG. The player simply stops playing. I couldn't find anything in FAQ to address that. When I replayed it again it reached the same point and stopped. So, does Jalipo have some kind of support system in place we can contact? Last week's broadcast went smoothly. ----

Good improvements compared to the first show.
I'll make some comments in reverse order of the show:
- Rokh profile Edited well and a nice feature overall. However, I wonder whether something like a "look at this ship" feature isn't better suited for say the print magazine. What you could do alternatively is a variation of the "pimp my ride/fix my flat" shows that are around: players send in their current setup with the intended use (and maybe some problems), and the fantastic ship expert discusses possible improvements (and maybe demonstrates them, e.g. shows cap usage before setup change and after).
- Tournament recruitment This I liked best, I would have expected some short preview of the new rules though (but I guess you keep that for later). Nothing should be changed.
- 10 years CCP Good coverage, good editing, good interviews, good overall length. Nicely done.
- Convention with Eve CCG I could have used a "2 minute intro to the CCG" (if that is at all possible). As it was I found the feature to be too long.
- Non-politics news I liked the "human interest" bit about the blog. Similar things could be reoccuring occasionally. Eve university was quite nice as well. Not so sure about the CCP/Goons bit, as it didn't seem to add anything new to the "discussion"; felt a bit like you wanted to put this in just to show that you are independent.
- Political news This definitely needs some work. News of the first and second show feel disconnected. The coverage of the individual points was too long, and had too much text. Presentation was a little too "wannabe-BBC" for me, too forced. What I would suggest is to put in more and shorter segments (might be difficult because of sources), and to try and put them into a "storyline" (titan loss is part of the "big war" (with a big war logo yay)).
- Intro I would like to have an overview of the show before the title sequence.
- Other Teleprompter/whatever you used works nicely, sounds was better (can still be improved though), presenter desk looked a little bit better suited for conversation than in the first episode. I think the show was a couple of minutes longer than it should have been (I would have cut in the length of the news pieces, and the convention coverage).
Hope the feedback is useful.

1000000000000000000000000% Better than the first episode.
In no particular order:
The Rohk vid was the thing that really stood out. Please can we get more of this. Only room for improvement I see is If you took people through how to set them up properly. i.e. The importance of fitting the right guns i.e. rails over arties on the Rohk etc.
The CCG Interviews were pritty good. Loved watching Spiral f*ck up.
Alliance tornie stuff was good. Farjung and Ifni know what they're talking about. Would have been nice to hear them talk abit more about tactics / setup's. The differances between normal PvP and tornie PvP. But overall not a bad segment.
Eve-uni thing - good for noobs.
Pirate blog - Interesting. Somthing abit differant.
Goons vs CCP - bit out of date but good for those who didn't know about it.
Titan death - Was funny to see Farjung have to talk about that.
The only downfall of the ep was the political news segment. 1st that it was out of date. 2nd that it was too brief / not enough detail. With the amount of stuff happening in the north atm there's enough there to do a decent report on the fights in the north. Would be good if we could get reports of how the battles are going / what alliance has taken what territory etc.

Blinky's Reviews: EVE TV Episode 2
The addition of an autocue has totally eliminated many of the issues I had with the first episode. StevieSG and spiralJunkie are far more animated now, freed of the shackles of reading off papers.
Some highlights.
General game news is coming along, again, I love the concept of hearing about all the things happening across the EVE universe. I hope more and more corporations and alliances -- no matter what size or where they base out of -- get in touch with EVE TV so what's important to them gets shown to the rest of us.
The convention footage was neat, it's nice to see the CCG getting more exposure. Was funny seeing spiral wrecking the place. He's such a pro. :)
The Farjung and Ifni Show. Was cool seeing both of them together again on camera, and I look forward to seeing them again during the Alliance Tournaments. They did a great job here talking about what the needs are for Tourney correspondents.
This episode is vastly improved from the previous one. The production is still high quality, but it's a bit more... down to earth? Not sure how to put it. Feels more like the old EVE TV broadcasts did in terms of general delivery. This is a gooooood thing.
All told I've become more impressed with the whole endeavor. It's not like I wasn't pumped about it before, but there were obvious flaws with the first showing that needed to get out there and receive feedback on to get cleared up. I think things are heading in an excellent direction.
--
On a semi-side note, I picked up a $5 bundle of J:creds to watch this. I suppose I'll skip a coffee or two at Starbucks this week, but at least I'm set for a couple of episodes. This should by no way be construed in any way shape or form by EVE TV folks as support for Jalipo. I still think it stinks to high heaven, but I'll open my wallet if it means it gives EVE TV some clout to kick out Jalipo sooner.

Specifically on the Ship Profiles. We want to steer away from detailed fitting, for a few reasons - one, it ouwld take a lot more than 3 or 4 minutes to give detailed fitting advice, and also, it's covered in EON. This isn't some cunning ploy to get you to buy EON or anything, but instead, we're aware that if someone has both EON and EVE TV, they don't want to hear the same information. _

A very nice improvement. I could see things moving in the station background, the camerawork was more dynamic, the overall pace was a little faster but more constant, and there even was a little splash transition thingy at some points like I suggested in the last thread. That made me extremely happy
I'll agree with Seleene though that the newsbit with the T.I.T.S. war (gawd ) left me standing a bit like "huh... what just happened?".
Overall, this is turning out really good. Keep up the good work!

Tough call on that one... however... CCP's forums, so your probably going to get a nice stick in your nethers for that one.

I still miss a feature: Considering we have to pay by the minute it would be quite practical if there was a way to know where certain parts of the show end or start so we can skip the stuff we are not interested in (like reports of the great war for example *yawn* ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree, that'd be nice. You can kind of hack job it by skipping around in the stream, but you're never sure if you've missed a segment that might interest you.
Also as a suggestion, it might be a good idea to offer one or two segments free each week, and then charge for the rest. That might help get more viewers interested in your product and willing to pay for the extra stuff they are interested in personally.
It could very well be a special low quality stream for the free section, with heavily discounted high quality stream option for those willing to pay the bit extra for it.
The 200 free credits was nice, but it disappears fast. It won't give folks the opportunities to preview the improvements you're making and will continue to make I'm sure.

That was a good show.
I'd like to see some news about what is happening in the different story arcs. I'm not in a role playing alliance and I'm not really a role player but I wouldn't mind knowing what's happening in the virtual world I live in.
I really like the "pimp my ride" idea. That would be cool.

That was a huge improvement. The hosts seemed much more relaxed. I really liked the feature on the Rokh, and the coverage of the 10th anniversary - great stuff. Farjung and Ifni had some great stuff to say too.
Very impressed.

Very nice! I enjoyed watching this episode... but I'm still waiting on the couch. I heard some laughing and whatnot during (Spiral knocking over whatever that was at the CCG tourney) the show... this was GREAT... it wasn't as serious... there were some parts that were still a little too "real life" news like.
But "seriosity" aside. AMAZING JOB on the second show!!!!

Well, thank you for listening to them. It's obvious from episode 2 that suggestions are being taken to heart where appropriate and possible. I'm looking forward to seeing how things evolve.

Edited by: Jark Mennings on 03/07/2007 11:05:35 I enjoyed it alot. Better than last week, ideas obviously taken on board. Credits purchased.
Apart from from max streaming kept sticking in 4 places , had to keep messing about to get past sticking points.

Enjoyed that both Stevie and Spiral aren't reading off papers as much anymore :D
REALLY ticked off with the 1000k stream buffering every thirty seconds. I tried it from a few PC's around my neighborhood at friends and family and still same issue.
I might have to watch in a lower quality :(

Edited by: Death Kill on 03/07/2007 19:10:09 Spiral Junkies seams lost while in studio. He seams much more relaxed when out talking to peeps. And the whole studio anchor man/woman thing is horrible. Its terrible, static and awful.
Bring back old school eve tv plz.
edit : Interesting content though.

Firstly I'd like to say that episode two was a great improvement on the first show. Along with the working autocue, you've had more time to get settled, and it shows. Secondly, as a couple of other people have said already, I think a more relaxed sofa format would be preferable for the studio sections.
There's a few reasons for bringing back the sofa. I'll start by saying that Spiral is obviously more comfortable there, and his style lends itself to a more relaxed, chatty, atmosphere. Since I think that's the direction the show should take for the base studio sections anyway, this is no bad thing imo.
I think we can all agree that there's been enough evidence recently that some people can take the game too seriously at times. EVE TV is probably the best medium for giving a gentle reminder that although we (some more than others) like to play hard, at the end of the day, regardless of our similarities or dofferences, we're all people who play this game for our enjoyment. I'm not saying you should be going out of your way to send a message, not many like being preached to, but that seeing people, rather than avatars, talk about events in and surrounding the game in a relaxed manner is a healthy thing.
If there are times when there are things which require a more serious presentation, these are probably best done as a cut-to feature, recorded in a different setting if required. The currently used news desk could be used for example.
I suppose the main point I'm getting at here, is that the tone of your features can be tailored to match their content, while the show would be improved if the general tone was relaxed but professional.
