Would like to use it....
Didn't work properly in trial...
When trial was extended and patch released (2mths+ back) - had to turn sound off for ever - PC crashing horribly.
Now I play without sound - sad - but means EVE Voice is denied to me.

It's meaningless to use it when you can't reach everybody you need to reach. It's not an alternative to TS etc. Making it optional made it useless.

Sound quality just isn't worth it for a pay to use program especialy when you have ventrilo. The ppl who are willing to pay for voice will choose that everytime. The others will simply go teamspeak since it is free and sounds the same if not better then eve voice.

There is one basic .... BASIC ... fault with the current situation.
The voice program is linked to the Client.
Hello? Major design flaw alert? Nah, obviosuly not. lol
'ANY' voice comunications will be next to useless if it in any way relies on the EVE servers or client. It 'has' to be completely indepedant to be useful. Why?
CTD's and Lag (both 'real' lag and client lag).
Both will make the voice program useless when it's most in need.
When The voice program is made seperate from the client I'll start testing it out, until then I'm not even going to waste my time trying it. I like to keep taking to people when CCP crashes my client, or when my PC decides to boot me out.

Server lag will have no effect on EV because TQ doesn't run the voice server anyways thats hosted elsewhere just like vent and TS, only client lockups and PC crashes will have issues with it. ---------

getting there then ... when it removes the other two for the equation it might be worth looking at.
Still I'd rather one payment to TS than multiple payments from everyone to CCP ... (to replace a system that works perfectly fine already). There's a very good old addage. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. (or create a duplicate that's not as good). :)

Also I hate that they try to ***** EVE Voice by using it for the live dev blogs. The sound quality is terrible (I mean REAL terrible), each person's volume is different and with their weird accents it's hard enough to understand them already! And that 'can anybody hear me??' is getting tiresome.
Stop whoring EVE Voice and do a proper, professional live dev blog: get everyone in a studio with a proper mic, make a schedule of points you wanna hit, REHEARSE it, then EDIT it and then release it.

I tried EVE-Voice on the test server a couple of times. Never on the live server. Quality of voice was ok, but the lack of a "auto-activate speaking above a certain volume" option was annoying (I really hate to press the middle mouse button or whatever other activation keysequence I might select in order to speak).
Why never on the main server ? For several reasons.
First, I don't play EVE with sound enabled much in the first place, like I'm sure a lot of people already do. The sound engine quality itself is quite, how should I put it, underwhelming. Not able to properly select volumes because the volume bars don't do what you'd expect, and there's no volume bar for what you want to modify, and so on and so forth. And in Rev 2.0, the sound engine took an even bigger hit from the bugs, making you want to never re-enable it again.
Second, there's no use in paying for a service unable to reach everybody. As somebody above here put it quite clearly already, the reason it was not mandatory made it useless. Especially since you can always hook up to a (nearly completely free) TS/Ventrilo server, where you CAN reach everybody. Heck, there's even hordes of really free TS servers, where you can have temporary chats.
As much as I like the idea of integrated voice comms from within the game, the issues above made EVE-Voice an epic failure.

I don't use teamspeak/eve voice for two mains reasons.
1) I don't want to hear smack talk from a juvenile, heavy breathers, or someone eating pizza while slurping a soda.
2) I don't want the extra "attention" that comes when a female talks on a mic.
I've thought about using eve voice in a passive role only, and never speak but that kinda defeats the expereince. So, I just use chat channels and make due with the limited gang commands.

I wouldn't mind using it if it had more options.
-You need to be able to change the 'push to talk' button. -You need to be able to adjust your inbound/outbound -If not using push to talk, you should be able to set the activation level. -You need to be able to have the voice on without any of the other eve sounds on. -It needs to be separate from the eve client, if i get disconnected form eve i still need to be able to talk. -The voice quality is poor, and its laggy, i could say something and other people wont hear it for 5-10seconds. -Its has a user limit, and that operator thing is ****in pitiful. -its has no moderator features, if some guy had a hot mic in alliance there would be **** all you could do about it.
There are many more problems, this is just the top of the list . Do not read this thread!!!

I totaly agree!
And an aditional big disadvantage is of course as mentioned often before the pay.
Got a new player in your Corp, want him/her to join the voice comm but he/she does not have EV and is not willing to pay for it, thats a no go!
I'm shure if it would at least be for free (or an option to activate it for your whole corp, or to rent a server,...) the quality issues would not count that much, since the basic idea of beeing able to talk in every chat channel (exept local, with i think if totaly fine) is great.
It's a shame, it could have been a grat feature, i totaly understand CCP and the fact that something like that has to be financed, but the way it is right now, EV it totaly useless and i bet it's hardly beeing used atm, it's a pity!

My alliance refused to even consider it since most people play on multiple characters. In order to be able to chat on each character depending on who they had logged in, that person would have to subscribe to EVE Voice on each of those accounts. I think the service would be more accepted if there was a separate client that ran in the background that a single username could log in to.
I like the idea of EVE Voice though. I've always hated how one guy gets stuck footing a TS/Vent bill so a bunch of people who're practically strangers can freeload and chat about "pew pew" for hours on end at your expense.

Never used it, if the game goes down so does communications, the deciding factor really.
One thing that'd make it interesting still is can you have sound on and it getting muted by someone speaking or is it sound over speech? I miss the sound of guns in space.

Not using it at all. The whole idea stinks of someone at CCP's head saying "ooh, shiny" and rushing a poorly thought idea out with lots of fanfare only for almost the entire playerbase to respond "Er, yeah, but .. "
If the Eve Voice client were separate from the main Eve client, could still be integrated to the point of logins, channel organisation (you move squad in Eve, you get moved in Eve Voice as well etc.) then it'd be worth considering. Until then, TS/Vent spits all over it. |

Eve Voice is linked to the game.
Lose the game you lose voice comms - this is a critical problem as far as I'm concerned.

The fact that TS/Vent are independent of the game allow their users to better influence the game.
Can you track the IPs from EVE Voice for security purposes? If not, then the tool is less useful.
Can you use EVE Voice across games? If not, then the tool is less useful.
Can you coordinate logoffskis, logon traps with EVE Voice? If not, then the tool is less useful.
See, Vivox is under the impression that people use tools like TS and Vent because it's fun. While that may or may not be the case, people use voice tools primarily because they are useful. Thus, the greater the usefulness, the greater the adoption of the tool.

back on topic.. tried it out, couldn't get it to work at all. back to TS/Vent.
I'm sorry to see you say, "no voice comms, no gang." Back when none of us had voice comms on games like EQ and UO, we grouped just fine, and we never felt as if we were losing out on any of the MMO experience.
Besides, voice has never been about enhancing the MMO experience. It's about metagaming the MMO experience. People adopt voice because it's advantageous, not because it's fun.

I'm truly surprised that so many EvE players are anti Voice, I use it and really don't want to gang with anyone that is phobic about it. I use EvE voice, but can switch to vent or TS is a flash if thatĘs what everyone else is using. Bottom line I don't care what flavor is being used as long as some type of voice communication is being used. i do hope they improve EvE voice I would like to see a Hailing frequency system integrated in EvE Voice along with channels for Corporations and gangs, the good thing is that more and more folks are using voice.... I see that as a good thing.

You're right, actually. It is highly advantageous. When I say, it enhances the MMO experience, I mean, that it gives you advantages that just are not there otherwise. EvE is one of the games where it isn't as mandatory as, lets say, Dark Age of Camelot (where twitch reflexes are the name of the game.. whoever can be fastest on the keyboard wins).
The reason I will not gang w/o voice comms is simply put.. I have to be doing other stuff while I fight, and any second not fighting can mean life or death.
This is where voice comms comes in. While I issue (or take) commands from the FC / Group leader, I can be doing 5-6 other things in game. Or in EvE.. I can scout, and call target orders, even before the gang / fleet arrive in the system.
But.. to each thier own I suppose

Well as I use another computer (a mini MAC) for my voice communications and other things. EVE voice doesn't make any sense to use.
And well everyone in my corp uses Ventrillo. And we have friends in other corps as well and they use vent.
Sometimes we are not even logged on and are chatting away or someone just stops by to see what is going on before they go out to dinner or something.
So having to be logged in to use EVE voice is one of the main reasons why it is just not practical.
Second is the cost. Ventrillo is a just cheaper.

I was considering Eve Voice until I found out that everyone has to subscribe for it.
If you could pay for a channel (similar to renting a TS server), where everyone in the channel could speak, that would make it slightly more desirable.
Persuading the majority of a corp to use Eve Voice is impossible if everyone has to pay for it. I know a lot of people who only use thier voice options b/c its provided to them for free.
