Hi, I just started and I really enjoyed the first agent after the tutorial - a nice variety of missions that built upon each other and increased in difficulty. However, now I'm lost as to what missions I should be doing now that I'm done with that agent. I've tried a few agents in the next system over from my beginning system, the first one (lvl1, Quality -13) had me ambushed my gun emplacements and a ton of pirates... after I managed to destroy their station and run (after my ship exploded) the next mission was impossible - I had to take out a swarm of high threat frigates in a nebula, and every time I warped away to regen, it seemed like they respawned! I tried another agent, this time Quality -19, and after a nice mission, she gave me the same mission to take out the repair depot with all the gun emplacements!
Is there any way to tell what difficulty these missions are before I am in a position to lose standing? I don't want to lose standing just because I rejected a mission that's too hard... I'd prefer a simple mining mission, or easy fighting mission, but I'm not having any luck.
Thanks

It sounds like your still using the rookie ship/rookie modules. The Rookie ship is only good for the tutorial missions, after that its fairly useless except for maybe making a cargo run. Upgrade to a frigate or destroyer as well as better weapons, that will solve your problem.

Actually I'm using a Condor with dual foxfire rockets and a 75mm gatling rail 1 with uranium ammo...

I just tried the mission again and the swarm of EoM fiends took out my shields in under 8 seconds... the accelerator put me right in the middle of them and I lost most of my armor before I managed to warp out :(

I would upgrade to a kestrel or a merlin at least if your staying with frigates for awhile. Or the cormorant, a bit more power, more shields. Put a shield booster on it, that helps alot. Also try to not jump right into the mix of it right away, stay on the edge and let them come to you, use your missles to pick off the first few.

The way to find out the difficulty with a mission is:
The level of the agent (Quality doesn't make any difference in difficulty, only the payout.)
The payout for the mission itself. The higher the reward/lp, the more difficult (In general).
You could also research the mission on This site (In game useable)

While this is excellent advice, it doesn't do much good to someone who is just starting and doesn't have any method to gauge the amount of ISK/LP he's getting.
The best thing to do is to read the mission description and see what enemies are listed (if any). Sometimes you just get "Deadspace Mission" or some such and don't know what to expect beyond the faction involved. But this is where Kumu's link comes in handy, or several other sites.
Using the Interweb you can find all sorts of information about what you'll face, and how to prepare for them. For the hardcore out there, you can also review your logs of what happened to you after you lost your ship, if you don't want to metagame with external sites (not a good idea with a game as vast and complex as Eve).
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

But to know the details of the mission, wouldn't I have to ask them for the mission first? If I do that and it turns out to be too hard, how can I decline without losing standing with that corp or agent?

Edited by: Kumu Honua on 03/07/2007 01:51:03 You can reject a mission you have not accepted once every 4 hours per agent. If you try a second reject before the 4 hours, you will get a warning about standing loss and the time that you can reject again without loss.

That site is missing missions, as well as being very very slow to update.

So basically....here's my question. What is your fitting on your ship? I honestly wouldn't reccommend using a condor for missions as it doesn't hold up well. Use a kestrel (with standard launchers) or a merlin (2 standard, 2 rails). This way you will get better range and can fire at the enemy before they hit you.
Let them get in range....run the opposite direction, and slowly kill them all. I was able to do some lvl II missions in this manner before I got my caracal.
If you have any questions as to how to fit a ship, look at the ships forum in the sticky. They have all kinds of fittings there, and it should give you an idea. You may be losing your shields so quickly because you simply don't understand how to set up a shield tank.

Edited by: Devin Portello on 03/07/2007 21:30:41 Huzzah, I finally beat Gone Berserk! I had to train frigates to 3 and equip some super long range rail guns and then nickel and dime them from outside their range, but I did it at least. Now I am stuck with an even harder mission: Worlds Collide, where all the enemies are of "serious" threat level... :( You would think there would be a more gradual progression in the difficulties your agents give you...

One of the better ways to deal with these is to use resistances specific to your enemies. EoM for example do EM/Thermal damage, so if you can fit hardeners for that, you can stand more of a beating from them.

This is the mission that teaches you that you don't have to kill everything. Read the mission description. It tells you the gates aren't locked. You don't have to kill everyone to finish this mission.

Only if your head is stuck in the "Take me by the hand and lead me WoW!" mentality.

Mission Enemy info
Copy that list into your in game notepad and check out who you're going to be fighting and switch some shield hardeners(or resist amplifiers) and your ammo/charges to counter them. If you do this you will notice a huge difference in not only your survivability but your damage as well.
I've also found for missions that most enemies at least at lvl 1 are all short range, so grabbing long range weapons(rail guns, artillery cannons, beam lasers) a nice AB, skill up long range targeting and you should be easily 10km+ orbits while killing them and going fast enough that they have a lot of trouble hitting you(my rifter goes 1000m/s iirc), if they do hit you then you have your hardened shields to protect you. I'd stay outta low sec with this though... not much of a pvp build :p
