So I just joined a new corp out in 0.0. Moved stuff in and had a nice shop talk discussion on Vent with a four year vet. Great corp, vet knows his stuff though he did get a Covops cloak and and Advanced Cloaking Device II mixed up also not sure about his contention that you can't MWD out of a bubble. Then again the only time I've been in one I had an AB (and at least took one of them down with me ).
So I log on this morning and . . . I've been booted. I'm informed that I know way to much about this game for an eight month old character and am therefor a BoB spy. While I'm flattered, there goes a good hunk of my stuff. Never though understanding how tracking works could be so dangerous.

Funnily enough, I was kicked out of my first corp (Shadows of the Dead, I think) for "knowing too much" for a few-week old character.

You have just discovered rule #13 of life:
If you learn something in a shorter time than it took the person you're talking to, you're immediatly a spy/KGB/liar.

If a 4 year old vet doesn't think a MWD works in a bubble, he is only recently out of empire, and quite possibly bought. Consider yourself lucky you got out before you had more invested. You can remote sell your stuff if needed, but nothing kills your gaming experiance faster than being in an incompetent corp.

Painfully, obviously true.
What is the name of this 0.0 corp?
I don't think it would be too hard to make them a target for the next corp you join. The sound like noobs who have been lucky not to get attacked so far.

If I were BoB or in the GBC, I'd find this spate of rampant paranoia endlessly amusing. They're so hated and feared now they don't even have to actually attack someone; they can just sit back and watch their enemies eat their own.

Just look up Dal Thrax ingame under Peoples & Places and then you will see what corp did this.
Simple enough ;)
Sorry to hear that you got kicked out. Some people just have too large an ego. They cant accept the fact that some people learn the game quicker then others (themselves). It is a sad thing to see. Atleast now I know what corp and alliance to avoid. Thanks for the heads up :)

Congratulations. You just learned the best lesson in life (and EVE too). That is, that exactly half of the people are of below average intelligence. And that, if you're quite a bit smarter or even just knowledgeable as the average, a vast majority of people you meet are not nearly as smart or as informed as you are.
Congratulations again. You learned your second best lesson in life (and again, in EVE too). If you're doing something faster or better than another guy and it really shows, the other guy usually gets angry. And angry people do stupid stuff, way stupider as usual.
Of course, you could still be a BoB spy anyway You're free to join our corp if you want, we're empire carebears, so even if you are a "something" spy we don't mind. And we can always use more "not dumb" people.
P.S. I've barely been out into 0.0 a couple of times, and even I know that MWDs *do* work in a bubble. My 3-month-old alt in a Punisher helped kill a couple of inties in that gatecamp It was hillarious how they couldn't warp out due to their OWN bubble, even if I didn't have a scram on. And something tells me they also only had ABs on, I was running circles around them

Corollary to Akitas rule is that that half is the top 25% in terms of money, skillpoints, and ingame influence because they spend all their time playing the game. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

By far not that Dal Thrax knew too much, but, rather, he wanted to know too much. Being inquisitive about things isn't a bad thing, but if you ask the wrong questions too many times, and too soon you're bound to be labeled as a spy.

That sucks.
Before I started my trial, I sat here on the forums reading all the guides and stuff, taking notes about the politics and who hates whom and why and stuff. Pros and cons to various race's ships, common bugs or other problems. Lots of stuff. Also read SHC after I figured out what that stood for and what it was.
Then after I started my trial, I got EveMON and Quickfit and did the tutorial. Yeah, there's a lot of stuff you have to be told about as you go, but there is a TON of information available. Half the problem (if not more) is figuring out what is necessary and what to come back to later on.
By the way, I took up my friend's longstanding offer of a trial because of the article I read in some newspaper about the game's politics and economics. What clinched it for me though was the map, which as a geographic information science student just left me drooling.
Yeah, newb still, but it is obvious that someone with a strong background in research can easily pick up many of the nuances of the game. I close Rookie Help as soon as I log on, but I have Help Channel sitting right there for me to follow the advice and instructions offered by other players even if I never say a word on it.
Anyway, it sucks that you had that experience. But it seems to me that anyone heading to 0.0 would be less than intelligent to move the bulk of their stuff to that theatre, at least to areas without NPC stations. In a game like Eve, taking what you own to an area controlled by other players can be a bad thing if it goes sour.

???? I was in your corp for less than twenty four hours. I asked all of two questions 1) What is the password for the Ventrillo server (after being invited onto it) and 2) Who do I need to eve-mail to validate forum access, and that was the total extent of the questions I asked. Oh and I also asked if your corp wanted a production person before I joined if that counts.

They are in NPC stations but so deep into syndicate that my chances of getting anything out are small.

Whoever you were talking to probably couldn't fathom the fact that you were smarter than him and so decided that the only logical explanation was that you were a spy.
To be honest I get suspicious of guys who just joined the corp/alliance and start asking all sorts of questions, but that's just natural paranoia. We would never boot anyone unless there was actual hard evidence. ----------------------------------------------------

This is complete nonsense. Trust me it's not at all like that in serious corps. There is justified fear of spies, but it's not like that at all. And BoB is not the only one using spies so no, it's not fear of "BoB spies" bur rather just "spies".

Edited by: The RepoMan on 09/07/2007 03:56:26 Tbh that's a pretty sound security screening, 99% of the eve population seems to be borderline ********, so when you actually meet someone remotely competent it pays to be quite suspicious.
Edit: on the flipside assuming they're bob doesnt make much sence either, I've seen nothing to indicate that bob doesnt follow the same... err, consistency as the general eve population when it comes to smrts.

Most awesome. Find an intelligent, quicker than average player for your corp, recruit them and then... get rid of them.
Sounds like a winner of a corp to me. Make sure you've got nothing but lol-punctuating Forrest Gumps manning the guns, and all will be good with the world.
Clue bus: your 'screening' weeds out only exceptional candidates and really, really bad spies who were no danger anyway. If someone *is* taking you seriously enough to infest your ranks with spies -- well, they're probably laughing their buns right off ATM.
