Well, I wouldn't argue too much anyway on the first 'date'. Some CEOs might not like that.

That's absurd; the consequence of it is that your corporation progressively fills up with incompetents. Which does have one benefit, I suppose: you won't be worth the effort of spying on Talented newbies are one of the best opportunities a corp has for building up for the long term.
Internal security is definitely important, there's no shortage of spies in EVE. But you have to measure your internal security measures against the price you pay for them, and screening out 'smart people who study the game' is paying a high price for a very dubious benefit.

Sounds like a winner of a corp to me. Make sure you've got nothing but lol-punctuating Forrest Gumps manning the guns, and all will be good with the world.
Clue bus: your 'screening' weeds out only exceptional candidates and really, really bad spies who were no danger anyway. If someone *is* taking you seriously enough to infest your ranks with spies -- well, they're probably laughing their buns right off ATM.
This got me thinking... maybe, just maybe, the guy that booted the OP actuall IS a bob alt who tries to avoid that too intelligent players end up with their enemies....

A useful skill in EVE and life is to smile and nod as someone explains something utterly incorrectly to you. If they were the sort of person who was open to correction by someone else, they probably wouldn't be getting it wrong.
A even more useful skill, in EVE and life, is to always be open to the idea that they might be right even if you think they are wrong, and to confirm it for yourself. If you aren't the sort of person who is open to correction by someone else, you'll be the same as the person in question. - sig removed due to inappropriate content, email us for more information - Deckard ([email protected])

Welcome to the club
I didn't get booted, though, but people became very suspicious because I wasn't asking how to mine, but tried to calculate how useful Ospreys with remote sensor boosters and shield transfers would be in gangs (I also just moved to 0.0 at the time that happened, so it seemingly was not 'usual' for new players :). I was around 2 months old and had 200mil in wallet, which was 'unusual' for character of my age. As if new players don't get Shadow Serpentis spawns
At that time, that alliance was being harrased by Burn Eden, so I wanted to help somehow (couldn't fly much at the time, so... Ospreys ftw \o/). Turned out okay, though, after we had a long chat.
Nothing to worry about. Find corp/alliance that will appreciate your curiosity and will to learn fast. |

I'd also like to say I've been in a few alliances where members have been chased out by the allaince command not there corps, usually they argue withthe allaince command and sound a bit too pro-bob lol and jhey are deemed spies because you know no one canever say soemthing good or truthful about bob, these are the worst one's as the whoel allaince is turned against them withirrational hatred, no proof and there corp does nothing at all to protect them, blindlly following the allaince leaders words, usally these are'nt new members either they been wive allaince for months. .

Actually, the truth is that there isn't a single corp operating in 0.0 that doesn't have at least one spy or double agent among the ranks. Thus is the nature of high profile life in EVE.

If atomic heroes is formally making response to this can somebody get with me and let me know what questions I supposedly asked? As I said earlier all I remember asking was how do I get forum access and what's the password for the vent server (well I also registered for the alliance forum but since according to alliance mail that's where nice post their like "alliance rules" reside I would think that you would want new members reading it). Are you sure you didn't get me confused with somebody else?

The harsh reality of 0.0 where your not in an NPC station is that if you get kicked from an alliance, corp or if your station is conquered your gear is in a bad situation. Let this be a lesson for all who read this. Regardless of your time with a corp or alliance you can still loose a station to a conquering force. I strongly suggest that all players keep an empire base with most valued assets stored there. Use alts to move supplies. Find Capitial transports to help move your gear so that you only keep neccesities in 0.0 while your there. Keep gear in empire seperated and organized for different applications so when you need to move some it is quick and easy to sort through and put together a package to send to your 0.0 main with your alt. Of the gear you keep in 0.0 be sure that it can all be sold on the market so if you get trapped you can at least regain some isk for your assets.
Just a few pointers I have learned the hard way over time in the game.

That said, if you cannot get your stuff out. Its definately a good idea to pod yourself out there (if you can)or create a trial account and use that to scout for you and head on out, then Sell your gear for a nice profit. Combat ships are always in demand in 0.0. If its all T1 and non named (TS Guristas etc) stuff you can easily replace it in Empire and pocket the profits.
Good luck!

Edited by: Yorick Downe on 09/07/2007 17:54:25 Hehe, too funny. Yes, you can MWD out of a bubble. We teach that in PVP-BASIC to 1-month old nubs, so I guess they couldn't be accepted to that corp either.
Gratuitous plug #2 (*): Agony Unleashed is always recruiting. We're selective, but not stupid about our criteria. Prior PVP experience is not needed; taking classes and learning to PVP while in the corp is a must. To find out what we're like, one of the best ways of doing that is to actually take PVP-BASIC. You'll learn stuff, blow things up in 0.0 and have a blast.
(*) Your post indicated that you are not currently in a player corp, hence the plug. We do not attempt to recruit from our PVP-BASIC classes, as that would create a conflict of interest. We only recruit people that are in NPC-corps, to avoid that conflict of interest.

This was the sum total of the conversation with Dal after the decision was made about him not being in the corp. The convo was terminated by Dal. He was also made aware of the effect this would have on his standing with the alliance and is welcome to ask to join other local alliances if he wishes. His belongings are his own, and held in NPC stations, so theft is not a concern. We take no isk from members for joining. Like any corp we have to listen to the concerns of existing members, which is what was done in this situation. As for removing his items from JQV, that shouldn't be a problem , if he has decided to leave the area. He was already based in the JQV area with another corp, so he hasn't exactly had to move to be here in the first place. And nobody mentioned BoB I think there's a little bit of inaccurate reading between the lines going on there

"This is not an official statement from my corp or alliance etc etc etc"
Not all smart people are assets to the corp, that's true. And some of the smartest people can be the most annoying and difficult. Sometimes they're not worth it, sometimes they are. My comment about absurdity was not directed at you, it was directed at the statement by The RepoMan that being suspicious of anyone remotely competent was a good idea. I think it's far better to exercise reasonable caution with everybody; using 'competence' as a red flag for your internal security is a damn good way of discouraging competence. There are plenty of things that a corp might want to discourage, but that one seems like a bad idea.
Since there seems to be a question about my assessment of the situation at hand, here it is: The reasons stated by the OP for being kicked are not good reasons. It's possible that the OP has misunderstood something they were told when exiting the corp, it's possible that they are being deceptive, and it's possible that they really were given that reason. Even if they were given that reason, it might not be the true reason; there are a lot of perfectly valid reasons why the true reasons might not have been given or explained.
The OP, quite understandably given their story, has sought guidance on how to avoid looking like a spy. Unfortunately, those are questions that no smart security person is going to answer, because discussing your screening techniques (especially in public) helps people to evade them.
You've been saying all the right things in this thread; asserting your right to terminate somebody's employment, while seeking to minimise the hardship that they experience as a result. The OP seems genuine in their disappointment and frustration and they have my sympathy. So I have no intention of directing any blame towards either party; you have a right to make an assessment and act on it, and they have a right to be unhappy about your assessment. Both rights apply, regardless of who is a spy and who isn't. (Some of the surrounding theories are quite amusing!)
Edit for disclaimer: I do publicity work for Agony Unleashed, but I do not have the authority to make policy or to conduct diplomatic negotiations. Any official statements on behalf of my corp or alliance will be clearly marked as official statements, and will probably be made by a more senior officer.

when dal thrax first joined our corp (which is no longer in operation), i expressed concerns to other directors >privately< that he might be a spy as well. he had asked some very sensitive questions about where blueprints were and what the passwords were for the containers within a few hours of being a member...
over the course of a few months, his initiative proved he was a "go-getter". and in the end, i think, he was seen as a valuable contributor to the corp. he contributed many bp's to the corp. i always wondered (guiltily) if my "reservations" prevented him from getting a directorship.
i only bring this up because it might be valuable to dal to know that he "trips triggers" inadvertantly (if we were to take him at face-value, which the corp did),
or
that he's met his fair share of idiots (me being, perhaps, one of them).
for the record, i dont think he's an alt. im an alt. but even if i posted with my main, you would still have to take my word for it - which, i know, isnt worth that much anyway. who is john galt anyway?
