Pfft...I don't have high hopes for a stellar tournament at the moment. The only mention of it from anyone at CCP in the last month or so has been a request for announcer signups on EveTV and vague assurances from Xyliana that their stream hosting won't suck as bad as it did last year.
No set rules, no sign ups for alliances, no real announcements about prices or sign up costs yet is not helping anyone prepare for it.

Politics aside, I am not looking forward to the tournament. BoB keeps winning them and the coverage has degraded to a point where each tourney is just another BoB coronation ceremony.
Plus, I haven't read anything from CCP that would prevent this from becoming another Bhalgorn nos-fest

As for what I think, well :
1. The rules suck, and MUST be heavily changed. 2. I can't see anyway that BoB will lose, unless Outbreak form an alliance and get really lucky.

That said the rules are idiotic, and I swear to god someone needs to strangle whoever runs Jalipo (SET UP THE BACKUP STREAM IN ADVANCE).
But hey, it should be fun, barring jalipo ofcourse...man jalipo is gonna suck the fun out of this ><

Oh yeah, mocking ASCN, who hasn't done that, the war vs ASCN really showed what ASCN was made of, and it sure as heck wasn't epic joke material, no sireee.
I think Cyvok will agree with me when I say that ASCN turned out to be one of the finest and most coordinated combat unites we have ever seen in eve.

If you think that because they won the corps of the year title in the eve mag then u have a point BUT there is a counter argument. If they dont do well it just implies that as a collective whole they are very stong but in a small group maybe they might lack the experience/isk. But I think they should do well provided they enter.

I think the point is that "if CCP are going to be doing this at all, we'd prefer they do it well". People are unhappy with how the rules are looking, and the prizes suggested. I think people are in every right to criticize what they perceive as faulty rules and sub-par prizes in what is generally thought to be the premier spectating event in EVE.

Originally by: Spazzle Eve is the real alliance tournament
They all are. IMHO, its all about games.
In order to do well in Eve, you gotta understand the rules well, and figure out ways to beat the others (or the game aka NPCs).
The tournaments are just another sub-game, with different subset of rules. They are not meant to directly relate to skills in various forms of 'real' PvP in Eve. Sign in, study the rules (to find the best strategies (and loopholes)), and win the subgame. Or, if you are not intested, you lose nothing by just staying out.

MC have traditionally underperformed. Pound for pound they're the leanest meanest fighting machine alliance in the game, by a large margin.
I've no idea why they've not won a tournament before, they have the ISK, the strategy, the organisation, the will... is it just bad luck?

Whether the prize is good or not there is no tournament entry fee, it's FREE. I can't see how some can complain about a tournament that will cost them nothing (dead ships, big deal). I think CCP is doing a good thing giving us something extra to do while playing EVE.

Edited by: Kiih on 11/07/2007 19:34:57 in theory it could be interesting if the rules were such that the ships fit for action would have to be bought and fit within an isk quota from a lp store-like thing created for the sole purpose of alliance tournaments. allow implants and podding or something and it'll still mean a reasonable amount of money put in.
that's too hard to implement though(unless they can pick the average going price of the last couple of months of all items in the game. from jita/oursulaert/rens preferrably), which means that in the end it's just about who'll spend amounts of money no sane eve player will see on the tournament
i wonder who will poopsock the hardest who has the biggest little man complex who's got the most free time and who's the biggest name in the old boys' club of eve who ever could pull off a win in the alliance tourney at the moment

Maybe it has to do with that they can't just field the leanest and meanest fleet to steamroll the enemy so hard that he thinks pulling out is cheaper than losing everything ?

There's not an MC team in the last two tourneys that hasn't brought out a 'bling parade' to every single match. As for our record:
1st Toureny - Hardly any attention leading up to it, our 'team' was barely worthy of the name. Eyeshadow flew THE most bizzare set-up ever on a Mega and somehow still almost managed to win the match.
2nd Tourney - We steamrolled everyone we fought, got one match from the Final and got stopped by ASCN's uber NOS team. I shoulda shot the damn Eos instead of the Deimos.
3rd Tourney - MC gets put in the Group of Death (Red Skull, IAC, Terra Incognita and Xelas!). We decided to go with some insane / fun setups and see how things went. No one that fought us will think they got off easy.
As for this one, apparently we will have a team but I don't know much more than that. There's a lot of talk on our forums about JDC5 and cynos tho... -

I for one really look forward to the tourney. Even if i prob wont be in any team it was always fun to watch the matches.
And jep, teh Stream at the beginning of the last tourney was a complete joke. After they changed it, it got a bit better but was far from perfect. esp when nice matches where in line. But i have confidence that the eve-tv team learns from their mistakes. Don't disappoint me

The last tourney was entertaining in places... MC managing to WTFBBQ their own players with their nanomach, The Ronin pulling out four navy vexors, and the sheer perverted voyeurism of watching IAC throw their Impoc-shaped nuts on the bonfire every round until they eventually got roasted...
The dominance of BOB in the tournament perhaps owes something to their ability to fit their ships and pilots with supremely expensive and powerful equipment that other competitors can't afford. Perhaps it would benefit everyone if the whole tournament was ruled "T1/meta/T2 only"? That said, they still have some of the best pilots in the game, but at least everyone else would have to find a fresh reason to complain if they win again.
I'd also be interested to watch a tournament where each round was tweaked to have slightly different rules to promote variety in the encounters - for example, a T1 cruiser/fittings round, or a speed-fit round. Yes yes granted the rules and fittings for these would have to be VERY closely scruitinised and well thought out in advance, and it would increase the workload on the organisers and the participants, but it would spice things up a lot.

Hey Irving, get your facts straight, it was Nebula Rasa not Ronin.

At best, VERY BEST, tournament fittings amounted, per team, to 15 billion ISK. This is counting implants, around 2 bil a set, and faction ships. Modules were relatively cheap (at worst, COSMOS fittings).
BoB did not win because of teh equipments. Alot of alliances, including IAC, matched them in terms of isk thrown in the pot. In the second tourney, I was flying a Heretic (interdictor) for IAC with a full Halo set.
BoB won because, well, they were the better fighters and tacticians. All of the big boys brought out the big guns, BoB isn't the only alliance in the game that has had 10b+ isk to burn on this in the past.

2nd, for me. 1st lacked the decent footage of it going on, while the 3rd was completely wrecked by the first 2 days having the screwed up Jalipo stream. #2 was awesome, though. --------

Commentators from the 3rd tournament were excellent (but lacking Stavros), but Jalipo is a hate crime performed against the Eve community. Bring back the commentators from the last tournament, but use a real streaming video option, not the pay-to-view poor quality Flash POS.

I would like it to be a short, brutal, reflection of everything Eve has to offer.
- Fifty person teams - Each team starts in its own system - All teams compete at once and can ally and backstab as they see fit - You get sovereignty the moment you have a tower majority - Towers don't claim sovereignty when reinforced - Winner is determined by the team that has sovereignty in the most systems for the longest time - You fight with whatever you are able to carry - Podding allowed
I'm not sure how long they should be given to fight. Perhaps a weekend so 48 hours.

I don't know if we're going to. I'll leave it up to the lads to decide. I know that we've got some very good pilots, some of whom I'd put solo vs any other pilot in Eve and see them win. However the alliance is new and we've just not worked together often enough to form an effective enough team for the tourny.
As I say, I'll leave it up to the guys. If I've got a decent connection I'll probably fly in it.
