How do you compare?
I'm pretty much the same. Except, I'm not 20 year old virgin that lives in my mother's basement. I have an income. I don't spend every hour I don't sleep playing Eve-Online. Eve hasn't inspired me to live; I'm never I'm suicidal. It's not my intention to keep myself busy doing something I like. My long-term goal in Eve is not to establish an alliance of 5000 members known as "Revolutionary Freedom Fighters" to overthrow Concord so we can govern and control the majority of Empire space.
Please Help me, YOU could be next!

It's a relatvely dark, pleasantly cool (as in "cold"), pretty silent and usually empty (as in "hardly any people") place, with several open/public WiFi hotspots. The BEST place to play EVE in the middle of a torrid summer day, especially if your home AC is on the fritz.

Questions for players - What do you do in real life? Research Scientist, i laughed really hard when i saw how R&D was implemented in eve cause it's so that :p my work consists in explaining how you need to send me more money
- How much time do you play Eve? too much. however i do a lot of logged in/afk/random chat while doing other things. focused playing, maybe 4 hours a week
- How has Eve impacted your life? i love sci fi so it gave me at last my dose of nerdiness! My wife calls eve "your *****" which makes some kind of embarassing situations when she is visiting her friends ("he didnt come, he is staying with his *****")
My kids are saying "hey dad why are you not flying your egg as usual" and so i lock them in the basement
- What is your intention while playing Eve? having fun, i set myself reasonable goals adn i try to reach them
- What long-term goals do you have for your Eve experience? to make more isk undocked than docked :p for now its far from it lol
How do you compare?

Questions for players
- What do you do in real life? I work at the IBM UK HQ, within the ITS Sales Team. Doing the dirty job of looking after the Ledger, and overseeing sales opportunities from noticing stage, up through qualified and Won/Implementing.
I constantly check the customer accounts CCP and Nyherji (IBM Iceland's business partner), to see what H/W upgrades they have in the pipe in my spare time :D
- How much time do you play Eve? usually 1 hour a day during the week, and somewhere between 4 and 8 hours split over Saturday and Sunday while my girlfriend works. (She hates EVE)
- How has Eve impacted your life? For a while, we lived out of town while my g/f was in University, I left all my friends so I could be with her and was a bit socially starved, Eve proved to be a fun way of staying in contact with a few of them, and making some new ones. I can be a moody b*stard and don't make new friends that quickly in RL..
- What is your intention while playing Eve? For me, it's not a way of life. I do very much enjoy playing but I'm not die-hard serious - at the end of the day it is a game and should be treated as such and not allowed to bleed through to interfere with a 'face2face' social life.. As I constantly try to point out to my other half, it is a pass time - she rots her brain watching her shows on TV, I stimulate mine with EVE.
- What long-term goals do you have for your Eve experience? Amass a small fortune, and help further the corp I'm in at the moment.. Would also like to become a serious PvP'er.

- What do you do in real life? Own my own buisness
- How much time do you play Eve? Currently, not much. Busy in RL. Other than skill changes, havent played in a few months. When I do have time to play, 5 or 10 hours a week.
- How has Eve impacted your life? It somewhat fills my Sci-fi craving. Also, love the big explosions! Good stress releaver!!
- What is your intention while playing Eve? Mining, missions, make money, make a few friends
- What long-term goals do you have for your Eve experience? Id love to have a player owned station or outpost, but that requires way more time than I have to give. That kind of stuff requires you to pretty much live the game.

My current situation I'll be honest; I'm a 20 year old virgin that lives in my mother's basement. I don't have an income. I spend every hour I don't sleep playing Eve-Online. Eve has inspired me to live; usually I'm suicidal. My intention is to keep myself busy doing something I like. My long-term goal in Eve is to establish an alliance of 5000 members known as "Revolutionary Freedom Fighters" to overthrow Concord so we can govern and control the majority of Empire space.
How do you compare?
I compare quite favorably:
I'm the IT Director for a *large* US charity who also has a private consulting practice. I'm married (happily), own one cat, and I'm not suicidal- in fact I'm pretty happy.
I play EVE because I'm a space game junky. It's fun. I play about 1 hour a day on weekdays, but have been known to blow a whole weekend away playing EVE. It helps that my wife is also a hardcore gamer (and an IT person)- so it's what we do with our free time.
HOWEVER:
When I was your age I was living in a small apartment with my dad and blew off college midterms to play some stupid Star Trek game on a Compaq 80286 portable with one of those old amber CRT screens.
In those days I was pretty depressed, probably suicidal, and totally unsure about what I wanted out of life.
I was a music major back then, and made extra money playing music in rock bands.
Once I figured out how not to be a dork, and started attracting women- that ended the depression. I was too busy.
The rest... just took care of itself.
So go get yourself a Members Only jacket, a bottle of Drakkar cologne, and get your hair feathered. Then hit the local dance club and fall in love repeatedly....
Wait.. that was 1985. You'll have to figure the last part out yourself.
-- I don't post on my main. The reason is simple- to remain obscure. EVE as a society is a rough place, and I like being anonymous. I'm not afraid. I'm just prudent. |

IRL I work, 80 hrs a week. I make a decent income, not wealthy by any standards.
Depending on what is going on, I play anywhere from a couple hours a day, to 6-8 hours a day (on weekends).
How has EVE impacted my life? Well my wife thinks that I am a silly person for playing with imaginary spaceships all the time, but this has caused to real problems between us. EVE did have a little bit of a part in the selection of the house we just bought, as one of the major considerations when choosing a house was that there be a basement so that I may set up my subterranean command center
While playing eve my intention is to relax and get away from the stress of everyday life. It is an escape for me.
Long term goals? I dont really ever set long term goals in EVE, I have spent my nearly 2 years in game pretty much randomly picking short(ish) term goals and attaining them. I started out as a carebear, then found 0.0 and pvp. Usually what I am working toward will apply to what I am 'in to' at the moment.

Current situation: Mind your own business
I play EvE simply for the satisfaction of another life, as my RL is a pain in the ass, rather than getting drunk and slamming my car into a telephone poll when I'm depressed, i sign on eve and get podded. My friends all think i'm a nerd because I play this game, but I don't care, I love sci fi, I wish i had a spaceship of my own.
BUT I AM NOT ADDICTED. If the servers closed tomorrow i'd shed 1 tear and be done with it as RL is more important, more fun, more rewarding...
sometimes we just need a break from it

What is this real life you speak of?
Sometimes however, when I dock, get out of my pod and head to my quarters in the station I log into a real life simulator game. It's quite boring and pointless (kind of like wow), so I try not to log in too much.

- What do you do in real life? I work for the City where I live, and go to school for Criminology.
- How much time do you play Eve? Couple hours a night on weekdays, more on weekends
- How has Eve impacted your life? Scheduling RL around short training times sucks. But our corp is very RL > EVE so we don't force logins or berate people if they take a few days off.
- What is your intention while playing Eve? To have fun and make money
- What long-term goals do you have for your Eve experience? Kill and loot Dark Shikari's, Verone's, and Jenny Spitfire's corpse.

Questions for players
- What do you do in real life? I'm a junior medical doctor.
- How much time do you play Eve? At the moment I don't, but I enjoy reading the forums and gaining skill points!
- How has Eve impacted your life? It keeps me entertained in quiet moments and goes well with reading science fiction books before bedtime!
- What is your intention while playing Eve?
To pilot fast ships to get away from trouble that is bound to happen!
To eventually be an active player (with some excellent skills! )
To become really good at my roles in the team
- What long-term goals do you have for your Eve experience? To experience a 'never ending story' with my fellow corp members
My current situation I am a junior medical doctor in the UK. I am currently gaining experience of all sorts of fields. I'm not sure what to specialise in yet - maybe infectious diseases, paediatrics, cardiology, or even renal medicine (kidney diseases!)
I very much enjoy the 'simple' things in life, such as reading a good science fiction book, looking at the wildlife in my garden, and walking around the shops and having coffee in Starbucks and Costas etc!
I have yet to meet a woman I would like to settle down with, but I'm not in a hurry! One day I look forward to starting a family, but not yet.
