Sir, does it mean that i can petition any random character and you will ban him immediatly ? I sense some double standards.

So an evol guy petitioned him because he thought his account was hacked?
Don't u think its easy to abuse this if u take the guilty untill proven innocent approach? e.g. petition hostile fcs before fleet ops etc...
Oh, I'm sure whoever tried that would think he was really smart, right up until we banned his account instead for it...
So you will bann the Evolution guy that wrote the petition that the guy were hacked? Will you pay this guy wo were banned cause anyone told it to you his money back for the time he couldnt play?
No. What he said is if somebody petitioned somebody else for a hacked account "just for fun" without really having any evidence (change in behaviour, corp theft, ...) he would be banned in return for knowingly wrong accusation. Key here is: You can only notice change of behaviour if you are standing close to the other character. Petitioning a hostile fleet commander shortly before a battle just to keep him from participating is probably one of the easiest things to spot.
BoB obviously had a good reason to have the account checked for signs of hacking.

Just a clarification for you sir, not about one internet spaceship group with everything else, but rather with some player petitioning other to get out of sticky in game situation. Your dread being killed =no problemo. My attacker's character was hacked. Bah - insta ban. You're home free.

If the thief was really an account hacked then you'll realize it then reimburse all BoB assets back (you have logs), but there is not any need to ban him until hacking is proven because if the thief is legit then you just stopped him doing what he enjoys doing (thou I hate EvE thieves, it's part of this "world simulation").
So by banning him you just broke logics and helped the robbed on securing the left assets by giving him some time.
So, I just gonna say you acted wrongly imho.

Ah I forgot to add I hope you investigate the guy who reported the presumpt hacker and punish him or something. You don't want to see "hacking account petition" for every capital ship that passes by and threaten some group of players.

CCP has two choices: a) Dont do anything, see the assets being sold / donated / whatever, and then find out that it actually was a hacked account and roll back tons of transactions involving dozens of players, most of which bought items legally on the market and didnt know they were stolen. So what do you do if CCP takes off your tech-2 shield booster in mid-fight because it was stolen from somebody else and then sold to you on the market? The money that just entered your wallet from the transaction reversal doesnt really help you. - or - b) Ban the supposed hacked account to keep the stolen items in quarantine, then investigate, and then open up the account if nothing is found.
The second option is more fair to the customer base overall, and a lot easier to manage (and it requires fewer support staff hours, leaving CS free to deal with more important things).

Who we ban or don't ban is between us and the player, we do not give out that kind of information to third parties.
The banned player will be compensated for the period his account was banned, yes.
And we're now getting to the point where we should be looking into tech 3 tinfoil hats, locked.

Based on what time cards are going for, BoB lost between 10 and 30 thousand USD worth of isk, CCP took quick and decisive action because of the massive amount.
If you don't think that you would get the same attention from a $30,000 transaction you should probably take a long, hard look in the mirror. Stupid.
