Edited by: Paigan on 18/07/2007 19:18:24 No, really. I've achieved, done and seen everything (in principle) that was interesting to achieve, do and see for me. I've played eve for 3 years now (though the first year with a 10 month break was pretty much squandered, isk and skill wise). From my current point of view, eve consists of two parts: static stuff (like WoW & Co) and and well meant but badly done unplayable other stuff (like 0.0).
First of all: No you cant have my stuff, as i prefer to keep it for when i maybe take a look at it somewhen in the future again. Oh and because i can't stand the thought that some idiot flies around with it :P
Skills? With 33mil SP, i have and can all i want as a combat char. Including Dread, Carrier (MS, too, in theory), T2 Frigs, Hac/Recon, all ships and weapons up to BS (except scrapmetal BS) and of course a maxed out Raven for high sec mission whoring that is long-term-all-in-all more lucrative than most things one can do in low sec or 0.0. Rest would be simply unneeded (like Amarr Carrier after having Caldari Carrier) and/or only EPEEN enlargement skills (like Warhead Upgrades V), but for that i lack the required instinctive drives (sorry, CCP).
Missions? Thousands of them. Sometimes fun, most of the time boringly repetitive and easy, though. Level5 missions? Done them on sisi. "Ah, NPC carriers. Nice. Ah, neutralizers. Mean. Ah, fighters, nice. Ah well okay, otherwise same as always, except the ridiculous high risk vs the ridiculous low reward. Seen it. Boring. End, even before it went live."
Mining? Hahaha. Considering everything (especially the long term income), even maxed out arkonor mining can't really compete to (skillfull) high sec level4 mission running. So the only reason for mining is either idealism or being pretty stupid (none of which i call my own). Or macroing of course, which i don't do either.
Money? I have spare billions to burn, apart from 2 dreads (one in high sec) and loads of other stuff. I see no need or reason to grind for any more money or assets (sorry, CCP). And burning it in PvP after having to grind for it makes no sense in the current state of the game. It's just not worth the time effort if you have a life and don't have some money printing like formerly T2 BPOs or exploits to farm.
Collecting? I claim this (,too) to be the ultimate Collectors-Roleplay-Mission-Ship. Everything beyond it (like X-Type and officer stuff) is so much unreasonably overpriced for only a little more performance that it's not worth killing any more real life-time for it. Except for EPEEN enlargement reasons, that i don't fall to, as said. (i know many of you big boys have a sooo MUUUCH better toy. But i don't care, read again what i wrote, plz)
btw: No you cant have my stuff, as i prefer to keep it for when i maybe take a look at it somewhen in the future again. Oh and because i can't stand the thought that some idiot flies around with it :P
Cosmos? I've completely done this "WoW-Part" of eve for caldari and amarr. The other two don't interest me (roleplay wise). I tanked the 2000+ dps in Lost Love alone without support in my imba passive tanked ishtar with shields never dropping below 70%. Was fun. For a short time. Though static singleplayer stuff is not what a MMOG should be all about. (btw passive shield tanking is ridiculously overpowered because of misconceptions in basic game mechanics)
Aurora? Oh yes. That sweet "You damned self-thinking bastard have smashed our 1-year-predesigned story arc. How dare you! You are BANNED!"-fake roleplay. No, thx. Really.

(damned selft-tinkered lousy forum... here's part two)
Factional Warfare? Haha. Good one. That, what i was waiting for for 3 years, namely a dynamical storyline NPC world of factions battling factions and players participating in it, which was so loudly announced, was in the end - what? The same static B.S. but with just "only-faction-NPCs"-level5 instead of level4 missions. Roflmao. Shame on you.
Exploration? Scanning for hours to find... crap. Crap crap and more crap and MAYBE, after days and weeks of searching something nice that gives... what? More money? Stupid. No dynamic roaming pirate fleets? No storyline relevant faction bases? RP anyone? Not even some aurora guy banning you for finding him. So what.
PvP, Wars? My brother and i organised a corp of mostly noobs when we got declared war by the officially ****-worshipping, petition-resistant griefer corp Chuskarl's Family. Apart from stupid solo losses from some noobs, we kicked their butts in almost every battle. This was really fun, for some weeks. Noobs with brain killing "pros" without one.
PvP, Lowsec? Flying around for hours, finding 90% nothing, 8% chanceless enemies (single frigs and stuff), 1% nice fights and 1% unpredictable total loss encounters. Uhm well. It was indeed fun to sneak around in an arazu, find a prey, decloak, damp and scramble him into oblivion and then call in the fleet. But well: In the current state of the game, it's not worth to waste 99% time to eventually get one lousy battle. Because, uhm, you know: there's a life going on outside of eve. Lack of basic game design, if you ask me.
PvP, 0.0? Ratting, Gate Camping, Blob wars, Capital wars? Been there, done that. Alone in a -0.80 system with 33 belts on a regular basis. Yeah, nice. Was a little fun, but also pretty fast pretty boring. Anyway, you still make more money with (right done) high sec level4 missions, taking everything into account. Gate camping, ah yes. Done that as well. Although only a couple of times. Enough to see that this can't even be called "a game" at all. Not even a time sink, i guess. Blob wars. Haha. I participated in the historical siege in D7-ZAC which crashed the node so badly that shorty afterwards oveur wrote a news item about it, iirc. Fun for one time, stupid from the second time on. Capital wars. Sure. Wait for the crawlers (BS and smaller) to secure the system. Then jump in and pump torps into POSes for 3 hours. Strategical/politcal nice. But boring as hell for a game. All in all, the PvP system in eve requires to waste HOURS over HOURS on extremely dull duties to get SOMETHING out eventually. Not what i call a game.
All in all, the really genious idea of player driven territories is nothing but boring and frustrating unplayable in the way that EVE implements it. Sad, really. But no doubt a good "first step" to a REAL MMOG instead of all those WoW-like quest-driven massive-single-player-games.
And of course: No you cant have my stuff, as i prefer to keep it for when i maybe take a look at it somewhen in the future again. Oh and because i can't stand the thought that some idiot flies around with it :P
Anyway Since finishing the CN-CNR, i have nothing reasonably interesting to achieve anymore in Eve, as i'm resistant both to instinctive EPEEN desires and 23/7 time killing and grinding for politcal goals. Apart from those sadly-not-worth-any-time aspects of the game, Eve has become a static, dull place for me
Best reason that's left to login is to simply use EVE as a rudimentary, yet laggy and buggy chat toy with a nice 3D background to talk to friends, help out newbies, etc.

(and here goes part 3 ... get a proper forum plz. There are even open source boards that are arund 100 times better than this here.)
In addition, eve contains many things ranging from annoyingly odd and unlogic (like slot system, ship bonuses, mining system), to laughable buggy and even weak-minded conceptioned (like balance things, T2 ammo, scramblers, AMARR. Or forced time sinks!), making me, as someone who studied computer science, sick every time i see it.
So after finally losing hope that CCP will ever figure out what to do to get it right, on 27th if July, before my acc expires, it's time to start Carrier V and say byebye to a game with awesome new ideas and concepts but lousy realization at many points.
PS: No you cant have my stuff, as i prefer to keep it for when i maybe take a look at it somewhen in the future again. Oh and because i can't stand the thought that some idiot flies around with it :P Ok i think now every non-idiot should have figured it out. If not, feel free to ask for it :-)

Nice post. Deals with frustrations honestly.
I agree with 0.0 being srangely safe. There's not much happening out there, and when it does, its never balanced. Either a wtfpwn from a huge roaming gang or a lone velator not worth the time.
Only thing I haven't done on your list is train for carriers and dreads, but I'm in the same boat. Even winning a couple T2 bpos was firmly disappointing because with invention, making the stuff was tiresome and unprofitable. Nothing like seeing a promising module go from 15 mil to 2 mil in 2 months.
So, yep. Content like Exploration is tedious at best, and the content additions are buggy and unbalanced.
Time-sinks like mining in 0.0 is still less money than lvl 4 missions, and those missions are basically risk-free if you have a proper setup. What's a miner's motivation? There is none.
Maybe mining lasers could get a 25% speed bonus in 0.0 or something to make it worth the effort to go risk my butt out there for little reward.
Ah well, all games have a peak, and if something isn't done soon to dramatically increase the fun for all parties, this one will be headed down the backside of the mountain soon.
It's still fun sometimes though. ---------------------------------------------------

Methinks Paigan mentions epeens too much for someone who supposedly doesn't have such concerns.
But Eve is broken. Well, not broken...that would imply it actually once worked as intended.
I put in a lot of effort preparing for the day when I'd finally participate in fleet battles. What did I find in interstellar war? Lag, frozen screens, crashed nodes and the pleasure of seeing my battleship get blown to smithereens while my guns blinked instead of firing. That's not what I signed up for.
And my experience is in relatively small scale conflicts. I don't understand how members of the 1000+ member alliances can stand to play that way.
The most playable part of Eve is the small stuff. Missions, playing the market, ratting, solo or small gang pvp.
I want space opera...fleet battles...adventure! Instead, what I often get is a game where the player who can best deal with (or take advantage of) the bugs and lag will win. That's pretty sad. And what's worse is that there doesn't seem to be any reason to expect things will improve anytime soon.

Many valid points have been brought up.
Half the reason I stick around in this game is in the hopes that it'll get better. (I'm still waiting for Factional Warfare )
The other half is flying new ships, trying new things... I suppose if I had 'done it all', I'd be taking a break too.

Indeed. PvP needs some work. Being a Privateer made my dream of Eve come true, but that's over now. No longer can I log in for 15 minutes and expect to get a kill. I'm not going back to 0.0 until I have a Carrier with a blob backing me up and hours to burn (ie. not gonna happen any time soon). The F1-F8 action that is fleet warfare is boring to me.

You should realize that you stayed 3 years for a reason. You might want to bash the game now because you have grown sick and tired of it and it no longer serves as entertainment to you, but question is, what game would be able to keep someone interested for their lifetime?
Not many games out there keep someone for 3 years even. Its really quite a accomplishment.
When I quit this game, I will not post a long post about how much the game sucks. I will thank the creators for the fun times ive had during the several years Eve was the only game I played.

you find EVE boring (I realize you did not acutally use the word) but you have time to write a post like that? For your next MMO I recomend; "Watching Paint Dry."
