I often see people who look more or less the same as me, and sometimes in the same clothes. Now, I'm not sure if this is already on the drawingboard, but for the graphics update, can we get a lot more variety for when we re-model ourselves? facial hair? greater variety of hair styles?

There is a great deal of variety in what you can do when creating an Avatar. There could be more, no doubt, like more options for skin tone and skull size, but there's a lot of variety that can be had with what's available. But I think most people are just lazy. They take the first option and make a tweak or two and that's it. That's why we have so many clones about. If more people really played with the options, there would be much more diversity. And I don't think there are than many freakish looks out there, by default. And this is subject to one's own taste, of course. But all thre races can look normal, or good, but, again, you have to put time into it. I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.

All right, all right, if you want to be foppish, make them come in fancy colours or something... ...that said, there can be some variety even with the current avatars, though personally I do miss choices that would support a greater age variation, as well as beards. (Though for the reason of floating in goo for the most time I'd assume beards are not quite practical for capsuleers, and there might be racial fashion things, such like the Amarr actually preferring to look older.)

Who says we are all old sods anyways? I'm sure there's ugly Gallente, and Handsome Amarr in the worlds? Makes no sense what-so-ever to limit the avatars 'age' bracket via the original races picture. The graphics are getting an update, time to update our pictures as well. Variation is good. Sure, we get heaps of backgrounds, lighting effects and morphing of the face (good on them)...but we don't get different faces to begin with. It's 'one size fits race' only. How will that effect our avatars next year in station anyways? Will our pictures be used as the template, or are we going ground up? If ground up, may as well give us some variety as suggested by the others. Couldn't hurt eh.

When you choose Achura be sure to fall in the Clone Army. For example, all those Amarr Darth wannabe types have made their portraits according to the common perception of an "Death Knight". Myself for example, I chose to go with a rock chick look since this is a style that appeals to me. I just feel sorry for the Caldari since they are so clean cut. I tried to give him sort of a nasty sneer, but you really can't see it that well. I just wish we could pick other images for our avatars, or that the selection options were a bit more diverse. I would willingly sacrifice all the fancy backgrounds for more head choices. Better headgear choices would be nice too. I think the main reason that you see so many other Jim Mei like mine is that the headgear/hair choices are mostly freaky crap like "Ambassador Molari" hair, no hair at all, or freaky things stuck to your head. The shirt selections don't help either. Jin Mei are supposed to be "Japanese" in culture, but they have frigging Dracula collars on half their outfits. We need better Avatar choices CCP. And at least one free avatar change per character.

When ambulation rolls around you'll be able to start purchasing custom costumes, etc, so things might start to branch out a bit, although I suppose once the 'faction' clothing goes on sale for 1 bil each there will be whole crews of people running around with the same 'epic gear' and it will be WOW in space.... to the OP, you are correct in that most people go for the generic look. Thats probably the ore issue, everyone who picks the same race/bloodline ends up with the same starter face, and for some bloodlines, the choices for variation are too limited to create a truly different avatar. I also don't think the backgrounds add much. What about a background which is a station widnow that looks out onto space (like newsreaders have with the city behind them) Or a background which shows something game related, to add context.
