WTF?
I exclusively do level 4s for a command agent. Then, for an important storyline mission they want me to haul 40,000m^3 five jumps?

Gotta love that one. That's what friends are for. Either that, or you have to actually work for your standings increase.

aww i hate when i get couriers for my storyline. But hey, at least its not one single item thats too huge for you to fit in a T1 industrial, so its just a matter of patience.
If you can find the skillbooks and the hull around there, try to pick up a Bestower. It only needs 1 level of Amarr industrial, and it has 4 low slots, which means you can stick in 4 expanded cargohold II (which only require 2 levels of Hull Upgrades) and you get 12k in storage capacity, only 4 jumps back and forth to move all 40k. Probably take you less time than a comparable series of storyline combat missions.
Since you cant really turn it down at this point without tanking your standings, you gotta do what you gotta do :)

Why can't he turn it down? He didn't mention that he'd accepted it. If he hasn't, then he can just turn it down like any other mission, with a 4 hour timer before he can turn down another one without penalty. -- Guile can always trump hardware -- |

If you are looking to get better faction standings when this mission is pretty good, give 8% faction standing increase

You sound confused. If you are within the 4 hour period since you last turned down a mission, you will get a standings loss if you refuse another one from the same agent. What you described is how it is supposed to work.
Wait until the 4 hour timer expires, and there is no standings loss for turning it down. -- Guile can always trump hardware -- |

As has been said, this mission is a major PITA but it gives HUGE standings increases for both faction & corp.
So, just load up your Itty 1 with cargo expanders and go semi-AFK/surfing/whatever while you haul it on autopilot. Repeatedly.
Or just contract it out to one of those industrialists you see swanning about in their Itty 5's :)

I just set courier contracts. (5m reward or so seems to get it picked up pretty quickly)
Unless I'm feeling not lazy and it's 1 or 2 jumps then it's 2 trips in the Impel.

And 24% to the assigning corp, and 6.4% to the "allied" Empire (even though I've stopped getting Minmatar standing increases at 8.36).
They also give you a pretty long time to do it in, too.

Yeah I got that one, kind of annoying (even my occator couldn't do it with cargo expander II's/cargohold rig I's x 2 in one trip)
So it took me two trips, 6 jumps each way. Annoying, but if you don't want it...don't accept. Or if you accepted without looking at the cargo requirements first (I've clicked that fast many times) then accept the penalty of your speedy fingers, and make the trip back and forth for as long as it takes.

I was given a 40k m3 haul job the other day.
5 jumps out of the highsec agent's station and into a lowsec system. Nice, thank you very much.

Wah.
I run these in and from lowsec all the time. Stab and nano out a hauler with one expander and suck it up. If you can align before gate pirates can lock you're fine.
The only one I've ever turned down was one that wanted to send me from Intaki to Poitot through MHC-R3, and that was only because I didn't know any capital pilot willing to jump the stuff in the vicinity.
5m and a 8% faction boost isn't worth losing a head full of +4s, Rogues, and a very nicely-kitted out Empire hauling Itty V (especially when the MHC- system showed five kills and five pods in the same hour, suggesting a bubblecamp, which is *so rare* on 0.0 border systems).

hey hey
Nothing wrong with the game dude.
40km3 is either 2 trips in Slim (Mastodon) or 1 trip in Chunk (Fenrir)
Yeah its gutting that sometimes you might actually get asked to do something that your not specifically trained for but fortunately this game encompasses something for everyone.
You could also put it ont he flipside and say what about all those people who run L4 courier missions but get asked to do a kill mission ?

I've gotten that one a few times. Once I had to go 5 jumps, except 3 of those 5 were low sec and the shortest high sec route was 13 jumps. 4 trips, 13 jumps each way for a grand total of more than 100 jumps in a Badger Mark II. I ultimately paid a guy with a freighter to do it....

Edited by: agrajag119 on 24/07/2007 16:05:53 I love this mission, it should take you all of 30 seconds
Step 1) Setup buy order for the 2.whatver million units of trit at something high, say 3.5
Step 2) wait the short while for some enterprising industrialist to foam at the mouth at wonderful price on trit
Step 3) ???
Step 4) Profit
Worked great for me, each time I would get this one I'd setup a new buy order, so I'd always have the trit handy. Its not like having 6-8 million isk sitting around should break the bank, and it makes life much much easier. I also found the pickup location to be pretty reliable, so I just ended up with good sized stacks of trit, which I sold later.
*Side note* If you've got perfect refine at the station for this offer, buy shuttles and melt em down. If I'm remembering correctly you get the trit for about 3.3ish that way, and the supply is inifinite.

This mission requires you to haul special, mission specific, secure containers... There's no way around it beyond hauling them.

Lol, aye and he's quite right. The multiplier prefix always goes with the units so a 40km3 hold is 40 cubic kilometres which is a cube with 40km to a side. 40,000m3 OTOH is a space containing 40,000 cubic metres which can be achieved by a cube with sides of around 34 metres.
It may be pendatry but if you're going to do anything more taxing with your life than sitting at a desk answering the telephone an understanding of SI units is very useful.
On a related note:There is a big difference between 8Mb and 8MB..and don't get me started in MiBs -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Yay I get to out-pedant someone! A cube of 40km to a side is quite a lot bigger than 40km^3... It should be 40 cubes of 1km to a side, all melted down into one cube shape. Or ship shape in this case presumably. Or isn't the mission to carry 40 containers anyway? Freighters 4tw, and I feel sorry for the guy that got that mission into low sec -
