I hate lag!!!
Fountain region is really starting to pi** me off, We came down here expecting it to be smooth playing but all we get everytime we fight with the locals is extremely bad lag causing alot of unneccessary losses to both fleets.
We have requested enough times for CCP to sort out this problem and they tell us that it isnt possible. Well, one problem CCP will have soon is less players.
All we want is more nodes, I really cant see any problem with that...
We as players should be able to get a little bit of respect from the GM's. We pay to play this game, so atleast give us the freedom to play!!!!!!!!!
I would hope that both sides agree on this, this is not a complaint or a start to a flame fest so keep it sweet please.

I love the way your sig breaks all of the size rules for this forum
(and the problem isnt the # of nodes, its the load balancing between them)

Whatever the issue is with Fountain it needs to be solved.
Our side has made MULTIPLE requests for more resources of whatever kind for the constant activity that has and will continue to happen in Fountain.
As Coldplay said, I am almost certain that our opposition has had similiar problems as the lag problems have been widespread across many members in many parts of the world.

Edited by: Mau dib on 02/02/2004 14:59:36 I love how the developers are always cheering about breaking another record for the most people in a MMORPG in history. Uhhh guys...
It's great to break records for the most people, but IF THEY CAN'T PLAY THE GAME WITH ALL THESE PEOPLE IN IT WHAT IS THE POINT!!!

Cram as many people into a single shard that does not function in large battles. BRILLIANT!
lol if you read the last meeting they had they say that they are making a new way to add more nodes when some systems have to many people on them...
move node from "dead" unused systems far deep in eve... so less lag :) ============================================ Colossus Technologies The first and oldest corp in eve! BadIronTree Head of Production

sheesh, take it easy, they are learning everything on the fly, but if you could do better, by all means apply for a job then.

man, im getting sick of these kind of posts.
THE GAME CANT HANDLE 20 V 20, it was never designed for this sort of thing, so stop trying, its that easy.
name another online game as complex as EVE that can handle some of the numbers in battles, man even FPS have server limits, i think its amazing it can cope with the numbers the way it does.
d solo.

their approach is utter bull****.
we need a hotfix soon, then they can work on the fluid player distribution which certainly will not go online before we start a new decade.
we need a way to agree about rules for fights(no. of ppl from each sides, drone use, missile use,..)
we need less activations with more of an effect. this has to be balanced against movement.
lol, they improved drone rendering a little. how will a 100 ppl battle look with all drones deployed?!?

First of all, all of the graphics processing is done on the client side, in all of these FPS, MMORPG and other graphically intensive games.
Server crunches the numbers and makes sure all of the different clients are syncronized to each other, and attempts to catch people up to each other in space, feeds data to the network etc.
The number of possible combinations for a 20 by 20 fight, in terms of positions to keep track of and calculate is astronomical. The fact that Eve does a decent job of it is amazing in and of itself.
Of course, adding more CPU power and/or throwing infinite money at the problem would help, but it won't make it go away, for your info.
It's an issue of scalability and, of course, affordability and return on investment.

you are talking about my money here!
either they bring up a working solution or a playable limit.
everything else is unacceptable, incredible jobs and limits or nor!

More nodes aren't going to help, they have to change the load balancing on the existing nodes. The cluster needs to be able to assess when the number of people in a system reaches a certain number and then either split that single system onto multiple nodes or onto a dedicated node. This way as soon as x number of people enter a system, the entire system gets switched to a new node or a mini-cluster that's dedicated to that single system.

And wtf do u know about it? Are you a dev? BTW ive seen other mmog games handle more than eve can handle atm.
Oh yeah i forgott its a mining simulater all you need is 1-10ships mining in a system so there is no need for more nods we could all mine instead and then do like many super carebears do - sell on ebay and then get banned. I cant stand mining for more that 1-2hours i want pvp as much as i can get.

What is the point of having a game where thousands of people interact, if by design they cannot do that?

You know I agree with the whole balance and nodes thing...but I find it so *%#%in funny how the CCP can reply to stuff on other forums like issues ingame ..patches...and then we have the little polaris *&'s that like acting like god on a sad site. But point is we get no reply's from devs or anyone on the forums ..I tell you CCP is just look out for number one and that is themselves. Blah thats what you get with a Iceland Company.

This node architecture they have is just total garbage. The only reason they would logically be using it is expense - 25 or 30 $1500US PCs and a couple of $500 ATM hubs is probably what they have.
I work on a large unix box, capable of holding 32 processors and 32 GB of RAM, and this particular box came out about 7 years ago. It's probably more capable of running Eve than those PCs. These days, you can buy a far more powerful system for about $650,000 US (including about 1TB of disk, striped and mirrored, and 3 years of service). You can even get these things running linux instead of the proprietary unix. Thats what they need, lots of vendors have similar systems at a similar price point, but they cheaped out with a bunch of PCs on a homegrown node / load sharing system. The PCs sound real neat if you haven't worked on a real multiprocessor system before, and then you realize its junk, especially for a bread and butter production system.
The stupid thing is, Eve should be bringing in about $300k/month for them right now. $650k should be a no brainer for them. They would no longer have to worry about 'nodes', hence cutting admin and development time (and cost). Need an upgrade? Trade it in for a bigger box within 3 years and get your money credited to it. Makes you wonder why they are still using the cheap stuff now that eve has a self sustaining income..

They have to pay the bandwith and the wages aswell, thats gonna cost LOADS!
A 300k$ server isn't something that every company can afford. __________________________
