Edited by: Hannobaal on 01/08/2007 23:48:59 Seriously it seems like some people have a conscious strategy to get everything in Eve reduced in effectiveness module by module (until everything is down to an equal playing field and back to square one, at which point they'll probably start all over again) through massive whining on the forums.
Call me paranoid, but for months now I've been reading these forums and never once have I seen anyone saying Remote Sensor Dampeners are overpowered. Not once. In fact, when I was debating with someone about nos a few months ago, I used an analogy on the great power of dampeners (without being serious) to show just how ridiculous the whining about nos really was, and I was laughed at for it. As if the two could not possibly be compared.
Now, all of a sudden that nos is being "nerfed" I see several posts including a couple of dedicated threads asking for dampeners to be "nerfed" and lots of posters calling them overpowered. It's module by module.
Please, please, please, if you think any particular module or ship is "overpowered" or an "I-Win-button" then freaking use them in the game yourselves no matter how "dirty" it makes you feel or no matter how much you feel it's "not pvp" (or whatever the catchwords you like to use may be), and stop your excessive whining.
Edit: And before someone says it. Yeah I know, I'm whining about whining. ------------------

There has been a Nerf Remote Sensor Dampeners thread, I'm sure its on the chopping block, after NOS and Cloak.
After that everything will be nerfed so much, shuttles will be next.

Nerf shuttles. They are too fast and agile. I can't target them with my BS when I am camping a gate. This crap is out of control. Nerfing needs to be stoped.

Edited by: Mari Onette on 02/08/2007 00:08:54 Balancing an rpg isn't easy. As a general rule when you start buffing things rather then nerfing them, you cause the game to become more unbalanced rather then less. It is easier and makes more sense to hammer in the nail that sticks out, then pull all the other ones out an inch.
As far as the nos go, you should have been using neuts all along anyways. Why do you think they exist in the game?
and yes, it is module by module. see, they have a list of all the broken things in the game, and they go down that list and they tweak them one by one, then see how it effects game balance. After the game stabilizes again they make more changes.
Having done some minor 1v1 piracy with a nos vexor, nos against frigates and even cruisers is just downright unfair. Their cap is gone in a matter of seconds and then i can sit there and pick them apart at my leisure. I felt very dirty about the fact they never even got a chance to get through my shields and I did it all without ever firing a shot or using any cap.
I dont understand why people say a level playing field is bad.
Actually I do understand. I understand all too well why people don't want a level playing field. When faced with a level playing field, you have to rely on skills, intelligence, and tactics to win. If you have no skills, intelligence or tactics, a level playing field must be quite intimidating. ------ I am in blood! Sweet baby jesus don't mention other modules that the carebears might whine about!
I'm trying to scrap together what joys I have before everything is nerfed to hell and back.
But where the heck did this NOS nerf come from? Afaik everyone was fine with there performance.

I never really used nos except on a tiny few setups like a Myrmidon and a dedicated tackling destroyer nosser (no guns) for small fleet. And I did mix nosferatu and neutralizers on both of those (using the energy from nos to power the stronger neutralizers). Also, I barely used those ships anyway. In fact, I mainly fly small ships (particularly interceptors) and we were the ones that were most vulnerable to nos.
I do think that any change to nossing, if it had to happen, should have been to range and energy transfer amounts and I don't like how the change was made. But that's not the point. I'm not defending something that I like to use in the game to give me easy kills, and I'm not against balancing something when it is absolutely clear it's way out of balance. Like, for example, the Titans that (before Revelations II) could never possibly die to any fleet no matter the ships, numbers or situation, unless they were caught logged off with an aggression timer (which is how both Titans that died before Revelations II were killed).
The problem is that there seems to be a mentality that anything that there isn't a very blatantly clear counter to (and sometimes even when there is because god forbbid you should actually have to change your ship, setup and tactic to counter someone) must be reduced in effectiveness. ------------------

QFT There have been three times as many nerfs in the last 6 months than in the previous 18 months. The nerfbat seems to have become the mainstay of CCP's updates recently, there must be more programmers involved in nerf patches than there are in adding content now.
So much has been nerfed now that Eve has become stagnant and barely playable except for the elite who have skills for cap ships etc. Even they have undergone recent nerfs and it's slowly making it pointless to train up extra skills to get good mods and ships. By the time you've trained the skills to use them, CCP has nerfed them into uselessness.
Nanofibers, NOS, and much more. Can we just wind back 6 months and un-nerf these things? Instead of nerfing what is already in the game, add a counter as a additional item that players can use. Add more content instead of killing what we already have. Anti-NOS mod that prevents or limits cap drain, high tech webbers that reduce speeds by 98% and ranged according to sig radius of target instead of 78% at a fixed 10km to combat the nano BS.
So many things could have been added but instead, CCP killed the things already in the game that made Eve what it was.

Signed.
The nerfing is way out of hand, and seems to be accelerating. In a game that requires careful planning of skills for the long term, these constant huge changes to the playing field are ridiculous. The balance is fine as it is. Work on getting the game working better 'cos I'm sick and freaking tired of these almost weekly extended downtimes and server problems.

Edit: And before someone says it. Yeah I know, I'm whining about whining.
damps are overpowered, m8 and could do with some *mild* tweaking to stop them being a 'must fit' module. CCP simply didn't think of what would happen when they nerfed ecm (though, again, a deserved nerf if too strong)
Didn't stop me from training for an Arazu, though.
as for the nerf threads, welcome to Eve 2.0 ... CCP got a whole bunch of subscribers that only know to whine, rather than trying new fits etc. Imagine what it'll be like once CCP spends the 4-7 mill it's allocated for dedicated advertising
You ain't seen nuthin yet

Ive been in the game for 2 years and I have see a few good things get nerf. Though I must admit they some got nerf for a good reason. The reason why people cry out nerf is once a 'ship of the month' the 'module of the month' gets nerfed a new one arrives. Problem lies in certain ships, mainly drone boats where electronic warfare is used the most.
Once the doms and phoons could no longer jam ppl with ecms they turned to nanos and nos, when they could no longer use nanos to its effect they turn to damps, now soon nos and maybe with the amount of crying damps too may get nerf.
Problem doesnt lie in damps or nos though i am for nos to get rewitten and not nerf. Damps are just the best electronic warfare module atm. Boost tracking disruptors, target painters etc to make them as good as damps.
Another problem is the dom and phoon. They may be useless in fleet yes, but in solo they are amazing with their slot layout etc. Im not yelling out NERF here, im just saying that those two ships need to be rewitten. They are not playing a role of a battleship, they are playing a role of a cruiser, except bigger and better.

you are right, most of this nerfed stuff is not even fun anymore and no one uses them, that is stupid.
Some things are ok like reducing the Thorax Cruisers drone pay load from 200 to 50, i mean 200 was more then the BS's could hold but the NOS and ECM and other stuff sucks.
Just take the stuff all the way out of the game why don't you.

I believe CCP is doing the right thing here. Why because you shouldn't be dependent on a single module, but rather the ship your flying should be the most important contribute to the style of engagement your looking to do. I think this is the way that CCP is pushing people to more role specific ships. Why would you fly a 75 mil ISK ship when you could fly a 25 mil ISK ship that does the same if not better? It's a big problem when people completely over look ships bonus for a particular module.

Problem is it is so far out of wack that a 340K ship can take down a 115 mill ship with no problems

Its not a problem... battleships arent meant to be alone and win against every smaller ship by default. The game is designed that way.
Unless you fly a dominix.
