Nah, guys picking female avatars or role playing female characters for fun in a online video game isn't weird. Not at all weird.
Oh, and by the way come over my house sometime. I want to show you what I keep in the large freezer I have in my basement...

Interesting topic. I think the answer is no. For me it would be impossible to play with a female avatar but thats just me. Others just do fine with it. I guess its a question of how much one can abstract from his own personality and the way he sees himself. I am pretty conditioned to be male apparently.
However it becomes weirdo once you try to pretend being female IRL. Don't you have somebody in corp who says hes female, has a female avatar and some pink bio but never shows up in TS? And if you force them into TS they are only able listen because ehhrrm the micro doesnt work, ya know?
I have witnessed this a dozen times and those people really are freaks imo.

Gosh, this is so much fun! Listening to all the 14 year olds rant and rave. I just love to read these forums. The word sophomoric comes to mind...and that is what usually passes for wit here. oh, wait, maybe the word is sophomoronic! That seems to fit better.

I've had this conversation on the WOW forums as well, my reply was that no one would be able to play Taurens anymore then, because they aren't Tauren IRL.
Most people didn't (want to) get that one.
In other words, who cares apart from the 13 yearolds that go "omgomg it's a girl!!!!!!oneleven".

On my view males using male avatars are the problemaic ones.
In game i am immersed, inside a virtual environment, inside virtual ship, INSIDE a virtual character!!
What kind of true male wants to be inside another male not a female? iiiccc***s

Thats the excuse I hear but.....
Its the face the man is trying to show the world as HIS, its a projection if his ego and that projection he is making is one of a female. Its a, hear me roar I am woman, moment.
The only excuse for a man using a female avatar is to get free stuff from other men/boys
And some people need to really lighten up in this thread A better question would be 'what kind of man feels he needs to justify to other people on the interweb his use of a female avatar'.

IŠm the only ghey in the EvE-village!
seriously though, do you really think about your avatars that much? i got 3 accounts and i dont even know what race they are. although i think one (my first) is caldari. this one??? i have no idea. but im sure iŠll take a note next time i fire up EvE.
also, iŠve never given anyones avatar a single thought my entire time in EvE. and i find it very surprising that anyone would.

Have you looked at male avatars in EVE?
When I created my character, I couldn't come to any semi-normal male avatar, they look like psychopats
Not that I had more success with my female avatar though, some told me she looks like some girl who just received the result of her pregnant test.
Anyway, it was just an attempt at looking 'normal'. ____________________ A gentleman is someone who can play the bagpipe, but who does not. |

People that cannto understand that there is no relation between your avatar and yourself, really need a therapist. This is a SERIOUS mental illness.

Why should we? This is, at least last time I checked, a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game and some of us prefer to be a female when roleplaying. Myself, I tend to have about 50/50 ratio M/F (if possible) in whatever game I play :)
I don't really see the problem.

I have to post in this thread because for a long time it was ASSUMED that I was a girl.
Fact of the matter is, I have never SAID I was a girl. I have just avoided talking about it. :) Fact is, I'm a guy. (/me dies from everyone's heartbreaks)
Thing is, you can get plenty in EVE with an attractive avatar and a person thinking with their lower workings instead of their brain. It's pretty funny. _________________ Burn. |
