My office at work recently started a cake baking competition, where by each week, one of us bakes a cake for the office every Friday...
Today is my day, and over the past few days I have been working on a Nyx Cake.
Bearing in mind, that I have no cake baking experiance before trying this, or any real cooking experiance so some of these photo's may shock unprepared readers...
Last Tuesdays Test Run:
Images 1 & 2: Showing the base of the beta cake, without any topings. Due to an accident, it came out grey and mold coloured... (Don't Ask)

Images 3 & 4: Showing the rasberry sauce... However, not reading the results of Google Searches correctly, I made the mistake of not relising that sause in cakes goes in the middle and not the top for a reason... (In my defence, the cooking guides did not specify "in the middle")

Images 5 & 6: Adding the icing and detail, using standard icing. Things fell apart about now...

Yesturdays Live Attempt:
Image 1 & 2: Using better cutting tools, and using paper templates (blueprints) to cut the cake, as well as rasberry sause in between the sponge and not on top created a much better base.

Image 3 & 4: Final Product. Using the butter icing worked much better. Notice the detail work, with individually places 100's and 1000's with a pair of tweasers, and silver ball balls for lights on the Nyx.

What did you use to cut out all the fiddly pieces for the second cake? Fantastic job by the looks of things.
I wonder whether it would be possible to get the actual Nyx textures onto a photo cake topping somehow?

when i was in the Marine Corps our cooks used to make all kinds of cakes in different shapes for whatever the command wanted- and they looked a ton better than this. most of them were a lot more intricite too.

I would recommend pastillage for the armour though - its icing that looks like plastacine i.e. you can roll it out and mould it - and goes very hard after for extra hit point resistance - err except for thermal cos it tends to melt

you gotta do the cooking by the book you know you can't be lazy
never use a messy recipe the cake will end up crazy
if you do the cooking by the book then you'll have a cake

Bringing a Nighthawk cake to the birthday party would be awesome! Perhaps you could experiment using pre-rolled sugar paste icing and food colouring. I think its easier to work with than butter ice and looks fantastic.

not sure on the look of the cake. it kinda looked like well not like something i would ever dare eating. imo each to their own.
have you considered getting a shaper made for making the nyx cakes?
perhaps using a clear sponge basing and use the icing to colour the cake to look like the nyx.
props tho for being 1 of the the first to do something like that

Thanks for sharing your supercap building strategies. It will make it easier for the rest of us to attempt to move into supercap development. Dunno if I have the required constellation sov to build one in my kitchen though. The wife's blue now but she changes standings frequently.

Not bad but you can improve the result greatly. Just use two coverings! One light (the one you used already) and one dark one made with chocolate. Then use the dark one on different places and you will have a much better result
But the cake looks fine alreadyas it is! Not bad.

I thought well this is random, but my sister bakes cakes so let here have a look.
Her advise..... Buy pre made rolling icing from Tesco (supermarket) which you can cut into any shape you like. And it wont look like someone sneezed on your cake.
P.S. Add a sprinkle of damps and stabs.

Ok, I think is is an Awesome Cake and have come up with an Idea.
The Eve Store should sell Cake Molds.
Start off with the Cap ships, and work your way down.
Each Mold would be a Half of the Ship so you end up with the Shape Being perfect. (top half and bottom half for those about to ask)

you can smooth out any frosting to make it really nice looking-
all you need is a HOT HOT metal spatula. what you do is keep a pot of water boiling on stove for this. you take boiling water and put it into a pitcher- you then dip your metal spatula into the pitcher. once it is nice and hot you can smooth out your frosting. once the spatula loses heat put it back into the pitcher. replace the water in pitcher when it is no longer steaming.

Green Colouring + Black Colouring does not get you Dark Nyx Coloured Gallente Green. It gets you grey, with mold green highlights. :-\
