Hey maybe you guys should consider using a big boys DBMS, one that can handle millions of transactions per minute.
Oracle, Sysbase, hell maybe even my favorite Postgres?
Just a thought. Won't somebody please think of the hamsters?

do you guys remember the good old days when at things like server upgrades and patches ccp would add mabey a day or something like that to everyone account.
what ever happened to customer service in eve? anybody else think mabey ccp have got a bit big for there own boots? and have forgoten the player base that have kept them going? i mean they must collect some where in the region of ú1.7mil per month in account fees.
is it to much to ask that for this they keep the servers up and running? and that figure must be conservate lets not forget eve magazine, eve the card game, eve the store (the final cash in)
does anybody else just feel sickened by this? i love this game and have played since just after beta i just wish it could try and stay stable for a bit.
my answer to the problem is to start up a second server and ask for people to migrate there. save some of the load problems hopefully, just my 2 cents

Maybe you might have read about how they are upgrading their database hardware and software? It's been delayed a week though.
TBH though, the amount of crashes we've had over the past few weeks has been shocking.

Most likely all spawns will be fresh upon server restart. At least that's how it used to be with DT back when I was still doing missions.
Edit: realized I was missing your point .. but no idea on that to be honest.

Why have a startup timer that fails 3 times in a row before actual startup. Why don't you get the server up and running then stick a login timer up.

If its a kill mission and you have not completed the objective, then it respawns at downtime. if you missed completing it or missed the time bonus, petition it under agent missions in progress and you should be able to complete it.

Its because they tripped over on the TQ power cable and the hamster running the backup generator died.

sounds like a standover tacitc to me, if this a game i pay for, i expect to be able to comlain as much as i like, and if so many people stoped sticking up for ccp like a bunch of carebeers, and complained like they should, then they might do somthing about it, but all you brown tounges just make it all right for them to provide you with all the latest xxxx ups that they come up with, insted of fixing the problems that allready exist

With this community I doubt "sorry" is gonna cut it, but hey it was worth the shot I guess, and being new you couldn't know how rabid the ppl here are, so in MY eyes thats ok.
And from the top of my head, I think missions generally last 24 hours, with storylines lasting 7 days. But I could be wrong, and if so, or even if I'm right, SOMEONE will flame the everlasting F*** out of me (and you!) for it.

I have sugesstion for ccp ,
hey, why u don't close EVE for about 3 days...and fix all problems which are happening and add new patches...and test it. But really, i am serious. Psyhical effect on players like this is really bad. I know at least 6 people stop playing cose of that. It will not hurt to be without eve 3 days, but it hurts to get poded, lost ship in pvpv,mission ets...cose of lag and stuf.

Well, back in the day, I used to write my own databases using MSBasic and structured files/indexes. Worked great and fit on a floppy.
Ah, 1989, you were awesome and terrible.
But seriously, Perl is for knuckledragging mouthbreathing soapdodgers. Let's not mention it anymore, k?

These server crashes, sometimes even several times a day, are slowly becomming very annoying.
My advice: go offline for 1-2 days, take your time and fix everything properly, then go online again. This would be much better than these crashes every day.

i stoped playing bf2 because EA just kept making it worse with evey patch, seems to me your taking a leson from them, or at least giving them jobs, that will end the same way all EA games do, eveyone leaving to play somthing that runs when it should, and not worse evey time you "make it better"

I have played other MMORPG's and I am aware none are without server issues.. I played WoW for 2 years and Blizzard had and still has a number of server issues which is one of the main reasons I canceled my subscription with them. But to be honest in most cases the server issues are stabilized by the hosting company in time.. Failing to do so usually results in the loss of subscriptions... EVE isn't a brand new MMORPG its been out for a number years. As a new subscriber regardless of the impressive content and amazing diversity in game play. I am still rather angered by continual lag and server issues... If the current databasing method is that unstable perhaps it is time that CCP looked into a different approach to the databasing in order to solve the instability issues.

Server is ending it's startup sequence now... already 83 people in que...
This is why startup fails... everyone hits connect at the same goddamned time! GIVE IT A MOMENT! The server needs a chance to set everything up... this is like trying to start HalfLife 2 before Windows has loaded
Server is online and apparently stable, I am #1 in que to connect.
10 minutes late... not bad :)

Is this connected to a rather strange bug I got yesterday where I was flying around with the warp overlay displaying? I mean, it was really trippy, but kinda annoying. Imagine looking up to see that you're flying sideways down a warp tunnel. Er, wtf?
Anyway, your SQL servers should be running as a cluster. Fallback for the win!

I have proudly added absolutely nothing constructive to this thread. I should have been in bed a long time ago but **** it its friday and I don't have to work tonight \o/
My eve-mon balloon just told me I can log on, but I think I'll have a smoke, a cup of coffee, and watch a movie first. 20k people logging in at once makes the server go OH ******* CHRIST and I'd rather not be part of the problem. Though of course none of you will read this since the server is back up. I love the forums, if I'm in a bad mood and need a laugh, I just pick a random thread and I'm guaranteed to find something funny, be it whines or flames.

Same stupid server issue been messing up the server for so many times now and nothing been done. Its about time to wake up CCP.
Oh, they will delete this thread once the server is up cause they think they have solved the problems and this thread is only used for "anger management". "Angry? here is a thread where you can say all you want and we'll delete it later on" Thats a part of CCP's crowd control procedures ^^.

I am new to eve, The Lag is the worst problem for me.
As far as disconnects, they may be frustrating but my main concern is being disconnected in battle and losing a ship.
my question is, if in battle when server disconnects, will my ship be damaged or does all stop in eve even battle

Dont see how you could be special and one of a kind. There are many eve players who do write programs/applications that work with some kind of database. Doesnt matter what the size of your software is, the same rules always apply when debugging and solving problems.
In all cases when the programmers get as much ressources as CCP get you'd expect them to solve the problem in all this long time that problem existed. But problem isnt solved so something is wrong. Either they arent qualified or they arent working on it.

I understand what your trying to say, but they need to know our concerns.
I have a fairly new pc and a great connection and i have LAAAAG. They may have a great game but their server hardware needs fixed, hopefully this upgrade their announcing will fix it they need to give a **** what people say, it helps them know whats what.

I can now get back in but everything is so slow. Just sold some ore (About 500k worth) but money & transaction not showing up in wallet.
Market loading takes about 30 seconds.
I am gonna log out again and leave it for a bit. I am a bit worried I may have just lost half a million into the dodgy database ether.

YOu guys have to understand- these servers are handling a pretty decent amount of data. Not only that, but, if I'm not mistaken, there is an AI for every NPC you encounter (at least in space)... even if it is a stupid one :P Those are more calculations done server side. Add into that that EvE is the largest single-server MMORPG (I, at least, have not found one bigger) and you have a venue for problems. I'm not saying ya'll aren't as smart as the next one (I'm only 19 after all and am still in uni for EECT) but you have to be PATIENT. I'm sure it'll get fixed when it can... they can't just put in an order and double their servers. It'd be nice, but that's a LOT of money.

Now I'm starting to get p*ssed off.
I can get no further than the "Entering game as...." bar and it keeps dumping me back into the character selection screen eventually.
I'm already an hour late for going out due to this BS and I have to stick around to salvage whatever is left because I can't rely on CCP to say anything other than "tough *****" if I petition for what I lose due to unreliable service....

I was lead to beleive that Eve was a series of interconnected servers.
Like Jita has its own server to handle its massive traffic.
I honestly dont understand half the terminology for servers and databases but im pretty sure that a single server couldent support the entire TQ.

Isn't it about time CCP realised that they simply don't have the horsepower to run a single shard with 30,000+ clients expecting realtime and near-realtime database queries, calculations, updates and responses?
Split the EVE universe whichever way seems most logical - perhaps 0.0 and lowsec on one cluster and Empire on another - depending on the population breakdown. Transition delays between the clusters would still seem acceptable to people, for example, convo'ing someone on a different cluster or looking up contracts across the universe. The databases in the clusters could use queued message passing for updates to each other.
The plus side would mean that fleet blobs in 0.0 wouldn't bring down mission runners in Jita and vice versa. The downside could, potentially, mean a delay in jumping through a gate that involves a cluster change, e.g. from lowsec to Empire (which could cause problems for haulers trying to escape a lowsec gate camp, but I'm sure some priority could be given to that type of cross-cluster network/database traffic).
Just my tuppence-worth.
(Oh, and get rid of MS SQL ffs!)

Actually TQ and the test servers are VirtualPC's on my computer, I just had to restart because windows failed (SUPRISE!)

I am going out on a limb here.
When the server crashes that means a sub game called marco polo was being played by a GM that nobody knows works for the company. THe marco polo game is so powerful that it begins to work on the outside server then works its way into the main data base.
IN order to get the server up and going again all the big beer drinking people have to stand on one foot with a beeer balanced on thier head and scream at the database saying.
MARCOOOOOOO
THe server then gets 1 seconds to HOLLER POLOOOOO
This continuies until one of the drunk GMS realizes that the voice POLO is really coming from the hamster/cockroach united against big nasty people liberation army has been misleading them.
THe battle then commences with the GMS now attempting to spray down the*****roach battalion with RAID and the hamsters then attempt to flank the lunch boxes and go for the BIG TWINKie goal.
Needless to say mass chaos insues with much cursing and the blades from the server are used as weapons to bash hamsters back into thier cages and the scoop the*****roaches and stick them in air born internment camps (out the window type)...
THen they finally come to the conclusion that after sobering up a bit that the hot chick that came waltzing in accidentally tripped over a power cord when they took her on a ALL OUT TOUR of thier wonderous facility.
Any thoughts on this I think im pretty close
