That's correct! I only get a small amount when someone buys a gtc via a link on the website but I get a nice fat $7 per trial that is registered via the free trial ads that goes on to be a paying subscriber. One of CCP's better idea, I must say.
I've been thinking of buying a few hundred CDs and burning a copy of the eve client, some videos and instructions on signing up on it and then distributing them at university. I doubt the signup rate from it would be all that good but it should pay for the CDs and more.

Nyphur, I'm pleasantly surprised and pleased this worked out as it did. Being one of the contributors to the previous thread you mentioned, I'm probably one of the ones you referred to as calling names . I did that as it seemed to me you had already pre-determined the result. But honestly, hats off for trying this and for posting the results, and I'm pleased it's worked out for you.
Too bad a very useful and informative post gets derailed by the google fanboy totally misinterpreting your intentions. However, since the OP is a worthy message for the front page of General Discussion, I'm going to do what my mother told me never to do, and feed the troll.
Savvon, did you read the whole of the EULA when you signed up to play EVE? I know I didn't. I had no idea, until I started reading these boards, that you weren't allowed to buy or sell isk for real money.
Discouraging fan-sites from putting RMT ads on their sites is a perfectly sensible policy for CCP, because it removes a link that tempts ill-informed players to do something against the EULA. I fail to see how it hurts CCP to take this stance in either the short term or the long term. Moreover, it would hurt CCP's reputation if they carried prominent links to a fan site that carried RMT adverts in breach of the game's EULA.
The fact that Google is being questioned here mainly relates to the fact that AdSense is the dominant brand in this particular on-line marketing space, not because anyone hates Google per se.
Though, of course, the great freedom fighters of Google might be too busy filtering out websites from their Chinese portal to care.
