The only reason I need to switch from my full screen EVE is to look at the computer clock. Yes, I know it's -6 GMT, but it's still a nuisance to calculate every time. If we had a tiny little local time zone clock, above or below regular EVE time clock in the lower left corner, that'd be good IMHO. It could take settings right from the system settings, so no user interface in control panel be required.
I suppose someone proposed this idea in the past, but search did not reveal anything relevant.

I think this wont happen anytime soon, (so please prove me wrong :))
Time is easely adjustable, not hard to code. However, many timers ingame depend on the time (whell server time, but you need to know when aswell) such as the mission time bonus. Market sell/buy order time.
At the moment this is all linked to the server time. Changing it to a client adjustable time would mean ccp has to code in a variable (or even several) on each time based atribute (market, mission time). So it corresponds to your local time.
I think the fastest way would be to sell cookies and buy a small alarm clock and put it next to your screan I'm afraid.

I dunno, I think the whole world would operate smoother across timezone if everyone knew and used GMT isntead of local timezones.
I therefore vote for the abolishment of local timezones instead
Just force yourself to calculate it each time you look at it and soon youll be converting from your local time to GMT in your head without realizing youre doing it.
It might help if you use a 24 hour clock or watch too. I'm also a fan of 24 hour time instead of 12 hour time.

I'll second that! The only reason we have time zones is because people are stupid and get easily confused. I can hear the complaints now..."You mean we have to wake up at 6 AM on the east coast while the west coast gets to sleep another 3 hours? That's no fair!"
If abolishing time zones is too much, let's start with daylight savings time.

NO, you misunderstood slightly. I am not talking about using local time for anything in game - no market, no mission connection. Just a little wall clock that tells me time. It is one function call in all imaginable OS APIs. Get localtimezone. It returns offset of your local time to GMT. I do not know how difficult to put another string identical to existing low-left corner clock. Just feed it with GMT+offset.
TO Verona - you are people too. We all are. Some are wiser in their own eyes then others. People will not use GMT any time soon. When I am doing a flight test in different time zones, yes I keep my clock at GMT. When I sit in front of the computer playing EVE and wife tells me to take out garbage no later than five o'clock, I do not think she means 05:00 GMT. And if I am off by one hour, that does not make her happy cause garbage man is a redneck who has no concept of what GMT is. He comes at five o'clock RNT (Red Neck Time), no discussion.
My desk is full of all sort of **** already, having another clock is a nuisance. My kids keep throwing their toys and drawings and misc crap on my desk, while taking away everything that is not chained to the desk. Clock will either disappear behind other crap or will simply walk away. I use computer for time.

So buy a cheap clock and mount it on the wall over the monitor. Why ask CCP to spend hundreds of dollars to code in something else that could add lag and more problems when you can just spend a dollar for a wall mounted clock.
Putting a nail in teh wall to hang it on is not exactly rocket science --

Edited by: Falcyon on 07/08/2007 20:31:23 I can see what the OP is asking for. All you need is a client-adjustable local clock to display directly above or below the GMT clock in the lower-left corner. All it needs is for the client to hit ESC and select the timezone they are in as well as 12- or 24-hour format preference, then poof!, the local clock shows local time as an adjustment of server time. Easy.
Just by having it there, you can eventually learn how to read GMT time in terms of your local time quickly and easily, such as 4:30 EST with DST (my time now) means 20:30 GMT.
No need for anything fancy. Just a second clock. That's as much as 5 lines of code, I think. ---------------------------------------------

Again a slight mis-understanding. No lag will be involved. EvE client reads from system clock and displays string next to GMT time. Nothing is sent back or requested from server.
Yes, I can buy a clock. I can even buy two, one set for GMT. I can also buy a calculator, use Firefox for browsing Grismar website. We can all use IRC instead of built-in chat. There are lots of things that we can live without in Eve client. If it's as easy to add as local time, I find it worth exploring a bit.

Not even ESC. Nothing to choose from. Your PC maintains locally adjusted time. One function call, will return string. NO GUI changes. Other than local time string above or below GMT. If you want to change your local time, change your Time Zone in PC settings.

And additionally, I want a countdown timer to go with the localtime clock.
Just so I know when a siege cycle's about to finish (although I daresay it's handy for mining too)
