You have to be 1500m around of can to steal(and you cant tractor) ,but you can shoot from 250km.A change something like this will used just griefing i think
Originally by: Ekscalybur This doesn't really make sense.
He can steal the contents of the wreck (the salvage bits) no problem. And when he does so, a can materializes containing the stuff the wreck used to hold. Why doesn't a can just materialize when the wreck is destoyed? .

Yeah it sucks, but fact is, that's not your stuff to shoot.
and neither is stuff in a cargo can thats not yours. Take cargo thats not yours = aggression countdown...shoot cargo thats not yours = CONCORDOKKEN...why? I think that deserves a fair explanation |

Well what a mistaka to maka ! But I did start to thinking, isn't it a bit harsh for concord to turn up and pwn you just for shooting a wreck ? Surely a criminal flagging of some sort to the wreck owner would be more appropriate ?
I promise you that you'll change your tune the first time someone pops your wreck/can full of loot in highsec.

Fixed, because that's exactly what I'd do. go in, lock their objective item and tell them X mil or it gets popped.
Ransom the player without ever locking their ship! Ransom lvl 4 faction fit BSes in a frig.

I have a problem with Concord blowing up my gang members when they shoot my wrecks. If they can salvage and loot a wreck of mine when we're ganged then why the heck shouldn't they be able to blow it up!?!

I agree, it sucks when gang members get popped for shooting wrecks. I mean, it can happen by accident, and did to a guy I was running a mission with once. Newbish to shoot a wreck, yes, but also a bit harsh.

Sure you can and as soon as your flashy red they get to pop your little frig like a rotten grape.. Unless of course they were too dumb to not lock you up on your run to the objective can and you warp after taking fom it..
And as far as getting popped by accidentaly shooting your gang mates can I think if you set your personal standings to +10 for your mates then it should allow them to do whatever they want and the same if they set your standings to +10.. Since it would be a personal choice to set standings that high there should be no problems with people griefing that setup..

on the surface it does not seem to make sense....but as has been said already, it stops all sorts of nasty griefing scenarios where there is zero risk to the griefer.
Right now, you have to fly up to the can, and physically take the stuff. During this time, if the can owner is nearby, he can see what you are doing, and either get the stuff before you, or pop you once you grab stuff. Having you locked already before you get to the can is trivial.
At least there is SOME risk currently...popping the can/wreck/mission objective from 200+km while aligned is NOT risk.
Also, popping a wreck should not make a can drop.....popping wrecks in 0.0 to prevent the enemy from getting phat lewts is a valid and cherished tactic.....sometimes you cant get the stuff yourself, and you want to deny them the stuff as well.

No need to discuss the matter at all - you even get a warning before you can shoot a wreck/can. If you turn it off it's your own risk (and fault). IMO anybody being that dumb should be podded by CONCORD as well ______________________________________________
