So last night we were doing a bit of hacking in a cosmos site which if you've ever been there is a bit mental and somewhat laggy.
The unfortunate mistake my corp mate made was to shoot a yellow wreck. Shortly after, concord arrived....
Well what a mistaka to maka ! But I did start to thinking, isn't it a bit harsh for concord to turn up and pwn you just for shooting a wreck ? Surely a criminal flagging of some sort to the wreck owner would be more appropriate ?

What? Is CONCORD supposed to come and fire a couple shots over your bow and say "HEY! Don't do that!"
Yeah it sucks, but fact is, that's not your stuff to shoot. _________________ Burn. |

agreed.. the most this should do is have the same effect as stealing from a wreck.

yeah it probably would make more sense to be flagged... but it looks like concord works thusly (in high sec, of course):
steal other player's stuff - flagged shoot other player's stuff - CONCORDOKEN
at least I think so :)

I would say its too harsh. Maybe make it a flagging for the first wreck you shoot, and then concord arrives if you shoot more of them.

Databases and server load know and understand one thing:
If playerX is shoot then CONCORDDOKEN end

No, obviously the Cops should show up and shoot you in the face.

I like that idea. They should show up and lock you... "Please put down your weapons and come quietly." They should then warp you off to a sin bin for a while, impound your ship and charge a release fee

He may have turned it off given that a lot of his time is spent in the business in low sec.

Yeah, but it's ok to open it up, take all his stuff out and dump it in a trash can, then steal the wiring harness the engine computers and a few other bits then vaporise the remaining bits.
You can also, if you want your neighbor to be able to shoot you, steal the stuff that you put in the trash can. Just don't SHOOT said trash can or the coppers will pwn you.

Probably no need to explain but i will anyway. You will get shot by concord for shooting any wreck or container not belonging to you so you cant on purpose shoot other players stuff they use or need (mission objectives, general goods, special / expensive loot) without consequences to your own.
If this wouldn't happen it be very likely that wherever you see other people you wont be able to loot anything (salvage or otherwise) because they would just keep killing the wrecks / cans.
This would be very bad for an multitude of reasons. For example you just found yourself a nice dread gurista which you kill and just can lock up its wreck and have time to perform a nscan what it dropped. It dropped an +3 implant, several dread gurista mods etc worth 1 bil total. Someone saw you getting it and knows he cant get to it first and decides to shoot it because he / she cant get it. End result you would be mayorly ****ed, and cannot do anything against this player because he is in an new player corp. If this happened to often you would find yourself clicking the "cancel account" pretty quick because you could effectively do very little otherwise ingame.

You know of any trashcans I can rummage through to find stuff worth a couple of million?
Because all the ones I look at only have half eaten cheeseburgers and broken toothbrushes.
...not that I look in trashcans or anything.

Well I suppose there is some validity in there. Although it wouldn't be my solution. I'd rather for example, make mission objectives indestructable (many many hit points) which would solve that problem. Plus if someone wants to steal my mission objective, they can do it and no concord response. Not really fair either, yet no concord response to that.

OK well, firstly I would expect a DG spawn to occur mostly in 0.0 so no concord anyway. Secondly, I understand where your coming from but the point I am making in this thread is the huge disparity in "punnishment" between stealing from a wreck and shooting a wreck.

If concord did not blow people up who shot cans/wrecks, you would get sniper battleships uncloak, align and do driveby's on miner's cans then instawarp out for a giggle, and people probing out mission runners and blowing up their cans for a laugh.
In either of these cases, there is no risk to the attacker. --

Nothing stopping me zipping up to the miner's/mission runner's can and flipping it... by the time he's locked me I'm long gone and no risk to myself. Hell I could even flip the can and then pop my own can !
Anyway Can != Wreck so the mechanics could be different.

This doesn't really make sense.
He can steal the contents of the wreck (the salvage bits) no problem. And when he does so, a can materializes containing the stuff the wreck used to hold. Why doesn't a can just materialize when the wreck is destoyed?
In either scenario, he's made the wreck disappear. The fact that he's not punished or flagged in the scenario that benefits him directly is a bit weird. Either way, the owner of the wreck is out of the salvage bits.
CCP should changed it so that when wrecks are either salvaged or destroyed, a can materializes containing the items the wreck used to hold.

Coolest solution mentioned
"Why doesn't a can just materialize when the wreck is destoyed?"
Combined with (when the can is being shot at)
"i think concord shouldnt shoot...just ecm web and scramble criminals ship for 15 mins"
That would actually rock :) ____________________ Dont feed the trolls |
